It’s great that she brought up Cuba. I was born and raised there, and I can tell y’all that everything I have seen happen in this country the last 4 years is absolutely scary.

I'm really beginning to see the magnitude & the immensity of what is coming. I don't want to be one of the people who looks back & wishes they had paid more attention to the many signs. We all need to take this seriously, use the time we're blessed to have now and prepare as best we can for what is unfolding.
Carrots are easy! Leave them in the ground over the winter. The next summer they will flower (like queen annes lace) and leave until the flowers have turned to seeds in late summer. You can get LOTS of seeds!

I tried that this past winter. Every last carrot was eaten by voles.
@@lionofgod5843 Just watched latest episode from True Grit: Appalachian Way channel (highly recommend) and they just had voles eat some of their onions. Andy (the husband) was so frustrated. So, looks like a challenge to deal with for sure.
Yep I've collected so many seeds doing that Just so people know those seed heads as your Harvesting will stick all over your clothes use a paperbag
I over wintered my carrots pulled them out they were super sweet very yummy!!!
I saw those ammo containers at harbor freight and the first thing I thought was it would be perfect for seed saving. Cat litter idea is awesome.
I grew up with the "Mother earth news" magazine, backyard food garden, hunting and foraging. I've always hated the modern system. The only child of 9 though.
Then, when I started eating from the store, my health, immediately, turned down hill.
Eventually I got to the point I couldn't have a job working for someone else. Now, my back yard garden and foraging is keeping me somewhat healthy.
I've been looking for a solo way to earn my own money.
If you leave onions in the ground over winter and they grow again next year they will produce heads of seeds
Absolutely, a lovely biennial
So do potatoes in my climate. And garlic.
I save my seeds every year in the freezer.. never had a problem from that!
In Texas, if you don’t start early (January) the heat will take out tomatoes by July. We have to put shade cloth over our slicing tomatoes. Really enjoyed this interview.
I believe the correct term for “backyard farming” is gardening.

Jill, I found your TH-cam channel because I was moving to Wyoming and looking for homesteading content for this state. I have enjoyed listening to all of your podcasts. So many wonderful guests and information! My ears perked up when you mentioned seed saving for a short season tomato plant. I’d love to hear how that goes and any other tips for our unique growing season and climate.

tobacco seeds are actually really easy to save, just pick the pods or the whole stems once they're dry. If you leave them, they'll actually self-sow.
I dry most of my seeds in flat pans (like cookie sheets) on top of my canned goods. It's in a dark cool area and out of the way 😊
Interestingly, the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture just stated that SEVEN grain and seed dealers had been totally wiped out by the wildfire in the panhandle. 😢
My brother and sister-in-law live in WY. He says they have 2 seasons, Winter and the Fourth of July.

My question is how do we prepare for the fires. First Maui, now TX...we can have all the seeds put away, the garden in place, our own meat...but out of nowhere can come that uncontrolled fire that burns cement, metal and underground. How can we survive that?
We can’t . We absolutely can’t. And that is when my faith is such a comfort. No matter what happens I’m going to heaven because I know my Lord made a way through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.

There's a strong likelihood that the internet will be going down in an estimated year or two, max. So it's a good idea to either print out or download to an external hard drive/ flash drives information on growing, water filtration/purification, herbal medicine, local topographical maps, first aid & basic field medicine, useful DIY projects, etc. so that you have reference information available. Information will be very valuable when the internet is gone.
It's also a good idea to keep a designated offline laptop (no wifi/data connection) stored in a faraday bag (protection from EMP) for maintaining & storing documentation & valuable information

Assur Standard doesnt deliver to your house - you have to get together w/folks also ordering - Assurs truck will deliver a place central to customers, like a walmart parking lot or something - you meet the truck and divvy up your goods.

Loved the legacy memories! In the Northwest U.S of the coast of the Pacific, early in the a.m. dig deep and fast for clams, and then we make clam chowder. It is so good and harvested ourselves from right there at the edge of the Ocean. That is one of my favorite memories, I hope to relive this year? Thanks so much!

Is it dumb to have a seed bed? So if I started and area of plants that I plan to let bolt to seed and just keep that area for seed…. Not sure how crazy that sounds…

I will never stop! I love having chickens. I share the eggs with everyone that will take them. It’s Like zucchini in the summer! 😂 my whole family and neighbors and work colleagues all get free eggs.
Can you keep seeds in a small mylar bag? One seed company I order from sends them in a gold, mylar bag.
I was just listening to how your homesteading channel isn't about dooms day and prepers.I was kind of disappointed listening one to this right after that. Felt like I was being sold a lie to get popular.

I enjoyed listening to Marjory's tips on seed saving! It is something that is very important, but overall I was disappointed in the podcast. She didn't have a convincing argument that seed saving is a viable business option, except perhaps in the case of another world wide crisis.

I didn’t think wheat was gmo. GMO is usually to make it resistant to round-up but round-up is used on wheat to kill it (desicate) to make it all be ready to harvest at the same time.

I think just looking at gardening as means to survival is very narrow. Plants are part of a starvation diet (what you eat when you can't get meat). We need to be looking from a permaculture view. What am I going to feed my animals? How can I sustainably breed and raise them for meat, milk and eggs? Then look at gardening to fill in the gaps.

Question! Need clarification... once read that cucumber or squash grown close can develop toxic levels of something that has actually killed people... what about that?
What about vacuum sealed seed packets. Do they really germinate after ten years?
Probably. I've also had seeds stored in a sandwich bag and in paper bags in my garage that is not temperature controlled for 8 years and still had luck getting some to sprout. The germinate rare was low, maybe 20% but I got enough growing to start saving those varieties again.
Carrot seed saving.... I have a video on that.
Hybred seeds do reproduce. The first year will be close to the hybrid but 4-6 generations later it will go back to original genetically or close to them. Also, most hybrid and GMO seeds are copyrighted and you can be fined or go to jail for saving those seeds especially if you sell the seeds from the produce you grow from these seeds.
Buy only heirloom seeds if you want to save seeds and sell it.

Okay I am not living under a rock here, but what is she constantly getting at when she makes it sound like we all know what is going to happen later this year?? Someone please tell me what does she think is going to happen?
It's like any fortune teller... Leave it vague. Best case scenario, inflation.... Worst case COVID like restrictions and supply chain shortages.
My thought, when looking at the Central Bank, the massive printing of the Federal Reserve Notes (what people consider to be money), the astronomical interest we “owe” the Central bank for the “privilege” of letting them print our money, and the failing economy…it is becoming unsustainable. We are in too much debt, and there is no more printing our way out, the central banks are going down. It is past time we eject them from our country and return to sound monetary policies, which I believe will happen but we are in for a bumpy ride. Do not fear, just put a little aside each week.
I believe she’s referring to the distinct possibility of a financial, political, social collapse that will render our food chain void. Grow your own food. Get yourself organized and motivated to grow your food in order to protect your family. Or not. It’s up to you.
It’s a presidential election year. Remember what happened during the last one? This one is likely to be worse. This country is also spending so much at such a fast rate that financial collapse seems pretty likely in the near future.
