The Carrie Nation quilt is an old-fashioned classic named for a firecracker of a lady. (Her temperance activism earned her the nickname Hatchet Granny!) It's a beautiful double 4-patch quilt made with precut layer cake squares. Jenny used red and blue American Beauty prints by Dani Mogstad for Riley Blake. The backing is a Dresden Plate cheater cloth from the same collection, and the background fabric is our very own Quilt Town Tossed Missouri Stars in white.

I had to laugh at Jenny grabbing the sewn strips off Natalie's machine. You can tell she was a very busy mother 😂
Right? And I admire Natalie’s ability to stay deliberate and steady, despite her Mom whirlwinding around her at a speedy pace!😂
I always loved playing with a kaleidoscope as a child, and I think that’s one of the reasons I’m drawn to quilting. You guys could to teach anyone to quilt. Beautiful!
I love it! Make it a bit longer and it becomes a Quilt of Valor. Thanks!
That BACKING!! I love a cheater print!! Such a great summer quilt!! Jumping on to order now before you sell out! Have a blessed Easter weekend and happy quilting! 🧵
where do you purchase it?

Thank you both! Great quilts! I love 4-patch quilts! Natalie, you look stunning!
It is fascinating to see how different block placements (and colors) change a quilt and what surprises you can get - like a white square in the middle. Thanks for another wonderful tutorial.
Thank you ladies!!!!! I made the star spangle quilt at a retreat and saved the cut offs and made a beautiful table topper. I so appreciate you all for all you do to help us quilters learn more each time we watch your videos!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
😍 love Natalie’s bonus project! You ladies are such a blessing!
Wow. Both projects are very sweet! Thank you both. Always an inspiration to me vim a seasoned quilter but I love these 4 patch. So satisfying.
Love watching you two - and you three when you’re all together!
Beautiful quilt. Thank you. 🙏🏻
I love the fabric and the pattern. I am putting this on my list!! I love patriotic projects!!! I even bought some patriotic fabric on my trip to see Missouri Star last week!
It is easier to see which side is the printed side of white on white if you use a black light flashlight. Super obvious. I got my black light at Harbor Freight.
If you put your hand underneath it you can see which side is the right side.
Where did you find the Blacklight Flashlight?
@@KirkBergland Harbor Freight. My store had only one. I had to carefully look at all the flashlights to find the blacklight.
@@alexandra-zaza-burns Respectfully, it isn't that easy for me. The blacklight stays right on my machine. I check each piece easily before I sew it.
I love the table runner!!!
Oh this turned out great!! Natalie your table runner is fantastic! I love both of these projects and the backing is so pretty! Thanks for sharing! ~M
Beautiful ladies! Beautiful quilt!
I love them both!!! Thank you Jenni & Natalie!! 😍😍
Both projects are stunning. Love the bonus one Nat!
This quilt did not go together anything like I thought it would when I first saw it. I guess my eyes were playing tricks on me! I sure am glad you two know what you are doing! I like the quilt and the runner! It’s amazing that most of that came from the layer cake. Thanks, ladies for an enjoyable time!
Beautiful
Lovely quilt and table runner. Thank you Jenny & Natalie.
I have not stopped fantasizing about last week's quilt...I want to make an indigo and cheddar and now you give me this. You have to slow down:)
You two are amazing,Thank You for the video today!
Natalie you look amazing and I love your leftover runner. What joy you both bring week after week. Thankyou so much❤️👏
You should do a Triple Play using a simple block. BUT show how we had to make it BEFORE we had precuts or even rotary cutters. Then contrast it using our modern methods. This will be a real eye opener for the newer quilters.
Love the uprooting of antique patterns! Interesting story behind It! Thanks loads you both!
Great quilt. I had never heard of Carrie Nation so after seeing this I did a little research on her history. Very interesting.
really enjoyed that - I also would try turning it so the little ones make chain as well.
Watching this at 1:52 am. You woke me up for a couple more hours on another great one.
Awesome quilt and runner, Jenny that would make a nice quilt of honor for a vet❤💟💙
Loved the tiny red/white 4-patches! They make a wonderful accent to the larger blue/white pattern! 🍒
Love the quilt. Thanks for the tutorial.
This is fabulous! Love it when y'all get together and create. It's amazing how the colors of choice make the end product look so different. Thanks ladies. Take care, many blessings to y'all and your families. Happy Easter.✝
Thank you for your awesome tutorials. I plan to make this one. Natalie , you look so pretty in your vibrant top.
Love, love, love this! The bonus project is great too! I hope and pray I finally get to meet you lovely ladies in June.
I love all 3 of you girls!!! I’m not a quilter…..yet!😉 My momma started teaching me to sew when I was maybe 8 but no quilting. I did do a really cute chicken block pillow that I had to “resize” the blocks on to make it work. I’m pretty darn proud of that pillow, which is funny as I’m VERY type “A” when I make things. I don’t have much down time right now but watch your quilting videos (and others) as it’s a bit of a joyful escape for me. I’ve ordered some fabric from you and others because of the inspiration AND because I’m going to make time for this creative/crafty side of me that needs attention!!! It’s one of those parts of me that just makes me happy. Thanks so much for inspiring me!❤
If you come across any questions when starting to quilt you can always message in the comments and one of us quilters would be happy to answer ❤😊
@@kristenhills thank you!!! 😊
I love the table runner and quilt.
Thank you.
Love the quilt pattern, the colors and especially the backing!!
The quilt looks so difficult but is just one block. Great❤❤❤❤❤❤
So neat to see how a different color changes the entire quilt. The group I’m in does a project every winter (most of the ladies are snowbirds so that’s our time together) and at our spring show when we display our quilts it’s alway fun to see how unique each one is. People often don’t realize it’s the same pattern, just different colors.
I have been eyeing “old glory” line from Lella Boutique and think I will do this pattern with that fabric ❤🤍💙
Another beautiful quilt and bonus project. Thank you Jenny and Natalie!
Hello ladies, can't wait for Friday's to come, another great beauty, thought it would be different than it is
Grea5 project. Would look gorgeous d using scraps. Natalie’s project would make a lovely baby quilt
This is beautiful and that backing ..adorable❤
Love the secondary design
Thank you ladies for such a wonderful project 😊
Oh my goodness!! You Doan women are magicians 🪄 !!! ❤ This is what I absolutely love about quilting. Because the piecing is so geometric, just a small change in colour, orientation, piece sizes, contrast… can make the same block or the same components within a block create an entirely different design. It makes me want to make all the variations!🎉
Small squares are intimidating! I wonder how it would look with bigger squares🤔
Great history lesson with lively quilt and runner.
2 great projects...again😊
Thank you Jenny and Natalie. Happy Easter
Natalie's version is like an elaborate chandelier!
Oh nice!! Love the dark background going in one direction, although it might be a bit much for a quilt, I may get dizzy, but perfect for a small project. Thankyou both. Hugs, Chel 🌸
Great job once again
That was an awesome video. The quilt and bonus runner were fantastic! Nice job ladies!
I may have to order that periwinkle fabric!! 😊
Great cutting tip this suits me better too
Nice projects. Thank you.
I am so jealous of the two of you. I would love to be able to quilt with my mom and grandmother still. Their inspiration was what made me love quilting. Thanks for the fond memories.
What a great tutorial. I love both projects. Lots of variation possibilities. Thanks Jenny & Natalie. You both did such a great job. More projects to add to my “to do” list. 😊
I love the runner!
Great job, ladies! By looking at this quilt, I would have never guessed how easy the construction is. Thank you so much for breaking it down and also giving us a bonus project!! Happy Easter!
Love them❤
This quilt is fascinating. Great tutorial.
A mother daughter team!❤️❤️❤️❤️
I always enjoy you and your daughter. This looks like a lot of fun. Think you. Have a blessed Easter. ❤❤
She said it uses 9 blue 10 inch squares and 8 red ones. So you could do it with 3/4 yd red and 1 yd blue with some left over. Or if you wanted that variety of prints, you can get 2 10 inch squares per fat quarter (again with left overs). All the extra could go into making it larger but that would mean figuring a increase to background and borders. Would be nice if they provided that in the pattern. Seems to me a lot of people will want to know the same thing.
Math nerd🤪🥰
When I am using white on white fabric, I shine a black light flashlight to make sure I am correctly sewing it. Really works great!
Absolutely beautiful! ❤
Both projects are so cute
Thank you gals. What fun projects.
So patriot. Thank you
Love!!!!! ❤
Beautiful!
Fantastic 👍❤️🙂
Very fun❤❤❤
Love watching you ladies. Thank you.
Nice pattern !
Versatile squares ! So different in other color , wow.
Thanks girls!
Excellent 😃
I love this
Awesome projects!
super ! as always!!
Love it!
Luv you guys great tutorial
I love the quilt - but it seems like a waste to only use a small fraction of the layer cake. How much yardage of the red and blue? (Might also be a great scrappy)
Sometimes I wish that y'all would stop coming up with great ideas. My to do quilt list is sooo long already. This is another great quilt.❤
Will yall have a book coming soon? I love yalls 3 play quilts!!! Every beautiful quilt and bonus!!
@sharonstafford182 many of them are in Block magazine. Well worth the price because there are NO advertisements!
I love this, as soon as i seen it i recognized it as an old block. My grandma made one or more like this
I would love to see the white on white fabric done in other colors please
It is!! See website for more colors and even wide backs.
@@daveleeannheier5648 thanks 😊
Very nice.
You are Looking pretty Natalie.
❤❤❤
Jenny, when are you going to make a patchwork jacket for us?
❤❤❤❤
If you use that backing fabric, how hard is it to match up the pattern when you piece the back?
love this! would like to know where you got that backing fabric. it's lovely.
Beautiful quilt. Little too fast putting blocks together☹
You can always change the video speed
Is it possible to make this block a bit larger? Say 3.5” blue blocks?
What is the name of the backing fabric? I saw it at the MSQC main shop, but I chose to get it later. I would like to order some soon.
Love this quilt pattern. Is Nat still married, I noticed she’s not wearing her rings.
