@@choochoostory I've been meaning to share an FYI of Chucky, hibernation and torpor. Due to Canada being a much colder region, chipmunks will hibernate 5 to 6 months (2-3 months in the lower S/W), they'll curl up into a ball with their fur fluffed outward, giving them all the insulation they need, and will wake up periodically during their hibernation. During hibernation, when it enters torpor, their heart rate drops from 350 bpm to 4 bpm, and their body temp drops from 98F to 1-2F above the air temp in their burrows. They don't store extensive body fat like bears do for full sleep during hibernation (winter sleep), chipmunks wake up periodically to eat what they have stored in their storage burrows to restore body fat for warmth.
It was during this torpor period that Chucky came to visit, sleep, then wake up, that is often mistaken for some kind of illness. Chucky, restored her energy while inside your house, it was her instinct that she was going to pass over the rainbow bridge during sleep. She came back to let you and Tom know she was not coming back, but made sure to say her goodbyes, and an abundance of thank you's. Chipmunks, and their species, pass peacefully in their burrows during their torpor period. You, and Tom, have extended their lives beyond their lifetime expectancy, and a rich fulfilled one to every one of your chipmunk friends. Job well done, and God bless you all!

I feed the squirrels and birds but sometimes I wish we had some cute chipmunk friends to feed around here too 😄❤️ I've only seen them at a local conservation area, too many cars and predators.

Ally's babies are so cute and well behaved. I know it's sad when some of the regular chipmunks don't come back from winter sleep. However, there are new generations of chipmunks being born each year so new relationships with the babies.

I wish someone had made a "Chipmunk Family Tree" chart showing the descendents of Chucky and the other founding mothers and fathers of ChooChoo and Tom's chipmunk family, it would really help us remember the family lines 🐿️🐿️🐿️

This video brought back memories of when I was a child and we had a cabin in the forest. The chipmunks were not afraid of people, so we would sit outside and hide peanuts all over our clothing. They would climb all over us to find the peanuts, it was very hard to keep from laughing too much and scaring them off! 😆 Greetings from Arizona, US and thank you for the great videos, I am a new subscriber 🤩
