However over time I, like I think everyone, became charmed by the relationship and the life we see you and Jesse are building. The pup seems to complete your family, and we can see your happiness. French Bulldogs have amazing personalities. I wasn't sure Matt was so much into dogs but now i see he definitely is, I predict they will soon be getting another! By the way i liked her self confidence playing with the big dog. That dog played so nicely and carefully too. Maisie doesn't know yet how lucky she is. Congrats.
Make sure that she doesn’t go up and down stairs (untill she’s a little bigger) bc it’s not too great for their back/hips and for their body in general, since they’re still developing. ❤️
Edit: I noticed you removed your potty training tip, so mine looks kinda random lol! I'll just leave it here since it's still useful information tho 😊 Your first tip is insane. Take the dog outside whenever they eat, drink, play, or sleep. When they're awake but not particularly doing anything, take them out regularly. That way, you teach the dog to go when given the opportunity, not when they want to. This makes it so much easier to get them to toilet whenever you need to get going (like before going in to the vet, when you're on a road trip and take a break, before you go to work, etc), and you don't end up with a dog that whines all day because they want to be outside, because thats what they learn:whining = outside = fun. Not ideal 😅
I'm really impressed by how mature everyone is being in the comments around the Frenchie issue. I went to make my own comment about how it's sad that they chose this "designer breed", but I see that point has already been made several times so I won't say it again. I'm impressed also by the fact that people are so aware about the cruelty behind these Brachycephalic breeds. Regardless, Maisie is a beautiful little creature and I hope she brings these guys many, many years of healthy happiness!
Always love it when people do this... "its already been said 100 times so I won't say it again" (and then does). But I do agree that's its nice to see that people have remained mature and respectful...and that so many are aware of the issues with this, and similar breeds.
I work for a Veterinarian and when dogs have lots of gas like that it can be a sign of a food allergy! They should not have that much gas. Just food for thought. Congrats
EDIT: You said gas. I read grass, my bad. Anyway, it doesn't necessarily have to instantly be a food allergy, yes, while it's known Frenchies struggle with food allergies it usually develops at a later age. Too much gas means your dog is not properly processing this food and thus gas forms. I'd advise to change the food as it seems she's not doing well on it. But do it slowly, like over the period of a week, mix it with the previosu food else her digestive system will be unbalanced even more and she may temporarily get diarrhea. Btw, why would a short muzzle have anything to do with building gas/their digestive system? I'm a vet tech and that's a load of bull. There are quite a bit of dogs, especially the smaller ones that eat grass, almost like sheep. It's a bad habit they still have from back in the days when they were wolves and legit needed grass to pass the meat better or vomit if they ate something rotten/wrong. Don't let your dogs eat grass, they don't need it nowadays. Although many still have the belief they do, in fact, it can even make your dog sick if there are traces of feces on it from a previous animal. It can be a sign though your dog may not be feeling it's best. Most tend to do this if they have a stomach ache, are bloated or issues with their digestive system, like diarrhea. I would have an eye on the dog and if other symptoms are displayed, call a vet or make an appointment to get them checked.
I switched to a new vet a few years ago and brought my dog in for a checkup. I was going down the list of symptoms, and said at one point "And he's not off his feed." The vet stopped and looked at me for a second and goes "do you have horses?" 😂 I did not realize how much I was outing myself with that one line.

Lou sad but true. This particular Frenchies snout does look a bit longer than most which is good. I have heard that several breeders in the USA are working on lengthening the snout by about an inch to an inch and a half, which would be wonderful for the breed! Hopefully little Mayze doesn’t have many health issues.
This isn't so much an issue in European countries as they haven't bred the super extreme, short about. You can tell this girl has a lovely, slightly longer snout. I doubt they will have any issues 💕

Frenchies have a high risk to die on a heart condition, breathing issues or a slipped disc/ deformed spine cuz they're so overbroad. Most frenchies need to have surgery at least once in their life.
If you watch Jesse's video, they explain how they specifically looked for a dog that wasn't overbred and wouldn't have so many problems. And the Netherlands are pretty strict when it comes to dog breeding.

Peopled Diagram That‘s bullshit. A Wolf eats a complete animal which ist probably a sheep, rabbit, cow, horse whatever. And as they eat veggies, the wolf also does. You need to know what kind of meat you‘re feeding. And of you don‘t want your dog to have problems with the bones, you should never feed your dog raw while its growing.

They get all the nutrients they need from muscle meat, organs, and bones. I wish they would feed her raw, as that will build her health the best. There are many raw foods available now. A good raw product will have all the above-mentioned kinds of meat. They do not have to make it themselves.

"We're not ready for a dog" a few weeks later: We got a puppy. Not just a puppy, but a frenchie. I'm laughing, bless your souls. We all know how responsible Matt is with his horses, so I'm not too worried about the probable health concerns, but talk about jumping in head first. She's absolutely precious - I wish you both lots of love and fun with your new baby - and also lots of patience. Puppies can be so tough! I've done rescue, foster and training with dogs for about twenty years now, and I think whenever I'm asked to foster a puppy I probably get a thousand yard stare as I flash back to the wars of teething, house training, and never sleeping again, laughs.
Breeders have a queue system, serious ones anyway, so this probably wasn't totally willy nilly. Puppies are usually booked even before they are born if a breeder is reputable.

Matt has always shown himself to be a very thoughtful horseman, I don't imagine all that common sense goes out of the window when getting a puppy. We also don't have any idea how long between those videos being recorded. I'm not here to judge them - and no one should be. For educations sake though - and again, none of this is shade for getting little maisy, because we know she's in a loving home where she will be taken care of, but for anyone reading - a breeder doesn't always mean a GOOD breeder. The fact that the pup was let go at eight weeks instead of ten is a pretty iffy sign. It's more acceptable in smaller breeds, but ideally your pups shouldn't leave their mother or their litter until ten weeks. The pup also came with fleas, which, again. Is a red flag. One could argue they were picked up from the courier service, since they didn't go pick their animal up from the breeder (a red flag in *my* area of the world, but I know couriers for pets are more acceptable elsewhere.) but for multiple fleas to pop up that fast, it's unlikely. And to top it off - a breeder for bulldogs is very often not ... Hmm, how do I say this. Bulldogs (french and english) have been bred to a point of extreme irresponsibility. Some breeders are working to better the breed, but you can expect lifelong health issues from a "well bred" bulldog. I am absolutely not anti-breeder, though I primarily work and train with local rescues for rehab of shelter and surrender dogs. There are a million good reasons to go to a breeder, and don't let anyone tell you different. But certain breeds, purist breeders tend to do more harm than good. Especially if they're promoting show lines, rather than working lines or pets. BUT if she came from a rescue, that would explain the courier and possible age, though the fleas are inexcusable regardless. You can't put flea treatment on a baby that young - you can kill them with the poison. Sending a pup home with fleas to someone who might not know better can be fatal. (Unscented dawn dish soap is the favored flea treatment for dogs that young.) The courier thing - lots of rescues go via transport if they're getting adopted from a distance. One rescuer will drive as far as they can and meet up with another foster/rescue group who will drive further, etc. Again. For anyone reading this - NONE of this is aimed at this situation, we have no idea where they got their pup, how they settled on a frenchie, where she came from situationally or anything at all. They're considerate towards their animals in the past, no one has any reason to assume otherwise for the pup. Please do not use anything I've said to get up in arms, I'm all in support of the new pupper. I'm only mentioning the above as some educational info that a breeder doesn't always mean a GOOD breeder. If they don't let you come to their house to see the animals, if the animals are let go too young, if the animals have fleas or other skin diseases like demodex, etc. etc. These are all signs of a potentially dicey breeder, and buyers should proceed with caution or shop elsewhere.
Adorable puppy! Since Jesse has had one before that was similar in breed, you will know very well how to take care of her (as we see) and we know you always give all your animals 110% care and love, no matter the situation. Have fun with your new pup!
I hope you know the breed is quite problematic, I don't really support it, as the dogs are only bred for the looks and have difficulty breathing. However, she's cute and I'm happy she's got a good home with you guys
I know lots of healthy french bulldogs. If they have a problem it's because of heat, they sweat through their mouths and the short nose makes this more difficult. People think it's breathing problems when it is actually sweating problems..
@@jonjonwp there is no such thing as healthy dog with this type of skull. Every single dog like this has breathing issues. They can not breathe well. It's a very sick breed and breathing is just one out of many issues. Just because people you know havent taken their to be checked for these issues doesnt mean they dont exist. This is a very uneducated and disappointing choice of dog.
actually its all to do with the soft pallet in there mouth it collapses an prevents them from breathing properly because we have breed them so much an breed them for looks in the cruft's worlds an many breeders that show actually inbreed mother to son an so on for there extreme flat faces an big ears also it makes them more likely if they bash their face on anything they could possible pop an eye out or do damage to it see it many times in flat face dogs also with the breathing problems if they get over excited they can pass out
@@aliv.5109 I wouldn't say uneducated. Some people just view breathing issues as a consequence of the breed. (Like how some people are predisposed to being diabetic.) Personally, I would have gone with a bigger dog for them. (something like a keeshond or retriever) Small does not mean easier to train and big doesn't mean difficult. Also, they really should have gotten a cold-weather dog. I think they are just new dog owners and haven't really figured things out yet. (case in point: they havent figured out dog toy sizing yet. But with time they should.)
Outside immediately on waking up, within ten minutes of meals, just also before bed...so essential! Also....the gas could be due to roundworm......check with your veterinarian......She is Adorable and obviously so in love with both of you! Congratulations new Daddies!
I'm so happy for Jesse, Mazie and you. Mazie is just so cute, but I'm a bit disappointed that you chose a French Bulldog, because of the disabilities with the breed. I think you will be the best owner she could ever ask for, but I would like to know the reason behind choosing a French Bulldog. You don't want a horse with a disability, so why choose a dog that will never be really healthy? I hope you will give more information about your choice in another video and knowing you, you will have known everything and have a good reason. I wish you the best of luck, because raising a puppy is hard, but will definitely pay off in the end!

French bull dogs can't even really give birth naturally cause there head is to big to go down the birth canal. And alot of french bull dog breeders are aiming for bigger heads in the french bull dog breed. Especially if they are planning on showing them.
Frenchies are AMAZING dogs. Yes they can be difficult to care for but the love they add to your life is completely worth it. I myself have a Frenchie and he is the most gentle soul I've ever met. Congratulations on the newest member of the family 🐾❤

YES she is soo cute! however she had fleas?? , long claws and arrived late at nigh? you should always see them at the breeders place and pick them up from there.. soo exited for them but also have soo many questions :o

Hey! You're a vet - thank you for all that you do. Saving lives is hard work! I absolutely agree with you, and I'm concerned that this breed wasn't a wise choice for them, especially considering the amount of air travel Matt and Jesse do.
Well they have her now so why all these complaints. You should rather give them tips or tell them what kind of issues this could be and what they can do to make it easier for the dog.
I understand that you're a veterinarian but they did explain in Jesse's video that there weren't that many options of breeds that were compatible with therir schedule as well as personality-wise in the shelter/s they visited

Instead of telling them they made the wrong choice. Be happy she was adopted by very responsible pet owners. They have both demonstrated in their videos that their pets are for life. I'm sure whatever should arise in her development they would be willing to take every measure to care for her.

She is gorgeous and I absolutely adore frenchies. I had one myself up to a year ago. But please, please dont support this breed. You have such a big platform and I really hoped for you to do as much research as you do with the horses. My frenchie just got to live 6 years, he had to go to the vet at least once a year due to serious breed related issues. We decided to euthanize him after long and painful illness that robbed him of every will to live and according to the doctors would not have any chance of getting better. It broke my heart. I loved him so much, and seeing him suffer made me so angry. Because it was all because of his breed. Please dont support breeding French Bulldogs (and pugs and many other purebred dogs)! Please educate about the health risks (troubled breathing, skin disease, heatstroke bc of the inability to cool down, dislocated vertebrae and genetic defects due to inbreeding). There a so many wonderful robust dogs and puppy's without homes on the shelters, I just hope you saved your little girl from a shelter and didn't support a breeder...
As you said, there are many purebred dogs that have health issues. We had a Shi Tzu for many years when I was younger and she also had trouble with breathing and heat. She was clearly overbred, but back then my parents didn't had the knowledge on how this would affect the dog. But still she was one of the lucky ones that got to live a long and happy life with her family. She was nearly 13 years old when we had to put her to sleep due to several organs failing. In all her life she never had to see a vet - until the very end. This was nearly 10 years ago and I still miss my little girl. But I also never want to have a purebred dog ever again - not even a crossbreed out of these overbred breeds. Our Jack Russel / Shi Tzu crossbreed that we own now is one of the best examples on how deep the health problems can go. He has to see the vet several times a year. He always has something else or develops a new chronical infection somewhere.

I know so many comments have said this but i feel like i just have to share my thoughts: With the process you go through finding the right horse, getting good vet checks and all, i feel like you didn't think this through? First of all, the breed, because this breed tends to have so many health issues, starting from breathing, to teeth, to bone problems and all. Second is the breeder, a responsible breeder would make sure that there are no fleas (and worms!) and informs about possible health issues. I just feel like you didn't inform yourself well enough. But still: i'm glad that this puppy makes you happy, and we can clearly see that she does. And be careful with the horses, as a vet's assistant i've seen some puppies that got under a horse (without the intention of the horse, just an accident) and it's not pretty.

My sister has had one of these and she had an english one. It's the breed, they fart more than other breeds. That's what the breeders told her and later on our vet told her the same.

A Frenchie is not a designer breed lol!! French bulldogs are a breed recognized by all kennel clubs.

Frenchies have a high risk to die on a heart condition, breathing issues or a slipped disc/ deformed spine cuz they're so overbroad. Most frenchies need to have surgery at least once in their life.

Dogs are carnivores. They require nothing else but Meat. Not vegetables and certainly not grains. No processed food, just real meat.
Royal Canine is among the worst to feed. I saw the brand in the video.
Peopled Diagram That‘s bullshit. A Wolf eats a complete animal which ist probably a sheep, rabbit, cow, horse whatever. And as they eat veggies, the wolf also does. You need to know what kind of meat you‘re feeding. And of you don‘t want your dog to have problems with the bones, you should never feed your dog raw while its growing.

They get all the nutrients they need from muscle meat, organs, and bones. I wish they would feed her raw, as that will build her health the best. There are many raw foods available now. A good raw product will have all the above-mentioned kinds of meat. They do not have to make it themselves.

"We're not ready for a dog" a few weeks later: We got a puppy. Not just a puppy, but a frenchie.
I'm laughing, bless your souls. We all know how responsible Matt is with his horses, so I'm not too worried about the probable health concerns, but talk about jumping in head first. She's absolutely precious - I wish you both lots of love and fun with your new baby - and also lots of patience. Puppies can be so tough! I've done rescue, foster and training with dogs for about twenty years now, and I think whenever I'm asked to foster a puppy I probably get a thousand yard stare as I flash back to the wars of teething, house training, and never sleeping again, laughs.
Breeders have a queue system, serious ones anyway, so this probably wasn't totally willy nilly. Puppies are usually booked even before they are born if a breeder is reputable.

We also don't have any idea how long between those videos being recorded. I'm not here to judge them - and no one should be.
For educations sake though - and again, none of this is shade for getting little maisy, because we know she's in a loving home where she will be taken care of, but for anyone reading - a breeder doesn't always mean a GOOD breeder.
The fact that the pup was let go at eight weeks instead of ten is a pretty iffy sign. It's more acceptable in smaller breeds, but ideally your pups shouldn't leave their mother or their litter until ten weeks. The pup also came with fleas, which, again. Is a red flag. One could argue they were picked up from the courier service, since they didn't go pick their animal up from the breeder (a red flag in *my* area of the world, but I know couriers for pets are more acceptable elsewhere.) but for multiple fleas to pop up that fast, it's unlikely. And to top it off - a breeder for bulldogs is very often not ... Hmm, how do I say this. Bulldogs (french and english) have been bred to a point of extreme irresponsibility. Some breeders are working to better the breed, but you can expect lifelong health issues from a "well bred" bulldog. I am absolutely not anti-breeder, though I primarily work and train with local rescues for rehab of shelter and surrender dogs. There are a million good reasons to go to a breeder, and don't let anyone tell you different. But certain breeds, purist breeders tend to do more harm than good. Especially if they're promoting show lines, rather than working lines or pets.
BUT if she came from a rescue, that would explain the courier and possible age, though the fleas are inexcusable regardless. You can't put flea treatment on a baby that young - you can kill them with the poison. Sending a pup home with fleas to someone who might not know better can be fatal. (Unscented dawn dish soap is the favored flea treatment for dogs that young.) The courier thing - lots of rescues go via transport if they're getting adopted from a distance. One rescuer will drive as far as they can and meet up with another foster/rescue group who will drive further, etc.
Again. For anyone reading this - NONE of this is aimed at this situation, we have no idea where they got their pup, how they settled on a frenchie, where she came from situationally or anything at all. They're considerate towards their animals in the past, no one has any reason to assume otherwise for the pup. Please do not use anything I've said to get up in arms, I'm all in support of the new pupper.
I'm only mentioning the above as some educational info that a breeder doesn't always mean a GOOD breeder. If they don't let you come to their house to see the animals, if the animals are let go too young, if the animals have fleas or other skin diseases like demodex, etc. etc. These are all signs of a potentially dicey breeder, and buyers should proceed with caution or shop elsewhere.

I know lots of healthy french bulldogs. If they have a problem it's because of heat, they sweat through their mouths and the short nose makes this more difficult. People think it's breathing problems when it is actually sweating problems..

It's a very sick breed and breathing is just one out of many issues. Just because people you know havent taken their to be checked for these issues doesnt mean they dont exist. @@aliv.5109 I wouldn't say uneducated. Some people just view breathing issues as a consequence of the breed. (Like how some people are predisposed to being diabetic.) Personally, I would have gone with a bigger dog for them. (something like a keeshond or retriever) Small does not mean easier to train and big doesn't mean difficult. Also, they really should have gotten a cold-weather dog. I think they are just new dog owners and haven't really figured things out yet. (case in point: they havent figured out dog toy sizing yet. But with time they should.)

I think you will be the best owner she could ever ask for, but I would like to know the reason behind choosing a French Bulldog. You don't want a horse with a disability, so why choose a dog that will never be really healthy? I hope you will give more information about your choice in another video and knowing you, you will have known everything and have a good reason. French bull dogs can't even really give birth naturally cause there head is to big to go down the birth canal. And alot of french bull dog breeders are aiming for bigger heads in the french bull dog breed. Especially if they are planning on showing them.

Hey! You're a vet - thank you for all that you do. Saving lives is hard work! I absolutely agree with you, and I'm concerned that this breed wasn't a wise choice for them, especially considering the amount of air travel Matt and Jesse do.
Well they have her now so why all these complaints. You should rather give them tips or tell them what kind of issues this could be and what they can do to make it easier for the dog.
I understand that you're a veterinarian but they did explain in Jesse's video that there weren't that many options of breeds that were compatible with therir schedule as well as personality-wise in the shelter/s they visited

Instead of telling them they made the wrong choice. Be happy she was adopted by very responsible pet owners. They have both demonstrated in their videos that their pets are for life. I'm sure whatever should arise in her development they would be willing to take every measure to care for her.

She is gorgeous and I absolutely adore frenchies. I had one myself up to a year ago. But please, please dont support this breed. You have such a big platform and I really hoped for you to do as much research as you do with the horses. My frenchie just got to live 6 years, he had to go to the vet at least once a year due to serious breed related issues. We decided to euthanize him after long and painful illness that robbed him of every will to live and according to the doctors would not have any chance of getting better. It broke my heart. I loved him so much, and seeing him suffer made me so angry. Because it was all because of his breed. Please dont support breeding French Bulldogs (and pugs and many other purebred dogs)! Please educate about the health risks (troubled breathing, skin disease, heatstroke bc of the inability to cool down, dislocated vertebrae and genetic defects due to inbreeding). There a so many wonderful robust dogs and puppy's without homes on the shelters, I just hope you saved your little girl from a shelter and didn't support a breeder...

As you said, there are many purebred dogs that have health issues. We had a Shi Tzu for many years when I was younger and she also had trouble with breathing and heat. She was clearly overbred, but back then my parents didn't had the knowledge on how this would affect the dog. But still she was one of the lucky ones that got to live a long and happy life with her family. She was nearly 13 years old when we had to put her to sleep due to several organs failing. In all her life she never had to see a vet - until the very end. This was nearly 10 years ago and I still miss my little girl. But I also never want to have a purebred dog ever again - not even a crossbreed out of these overbred breeds. Our Jack Russel / Shi Tzu crossbreed that we own now is one of the best examples on how deep the health problems can go. He has to see the vet several times a year. He always has something else or develops a new chronical infection somewhere.

Jesse finally got a puppy! I love frenchies! I am a bit concerned that you got a puppy with fleas, that’s not a good sign of a good breeder. The pup is lucky to have you :)
I know so many comments have said this but i feel like i just have to share my thoughts: With the process you go through finding the right horse, getting good vet checks and all, i feel like you didn't think this through? First of all, the breed, because this breed tends to have so many health issues, starting from breathing, to teeth, to bone problems and all. Second is the breeder, a responsible breeder would make sure that there are no fleas (and worms!) and informs about possible health issues. I just feel like you didn't inform yourself well enough.
But still: i'm glad that this puppy makes you happy, and we can clearly see that she does. And be careful with the horses, as a vet's assistant i've seen some puppies that got under a horse (without the intention of the horse, just an accident) and it's not pretty.

My sister has had one of these and she had an english one. It's the breed, they fart more than other breeds. That's what the breeders told her and later on our vet told her the same.
