A Thai girl who wants to have sex on the first night together is such a big red flag to me. I would never do that, not just because I would be skeptical about what drives her to be willing this, but also the signal you are giving to here by going along with it. You really have to make sure your relationship has a solid foundation and is not merely based on sex and physical attraction. Physical attraction does not last forever, so there must be much more that binds the two of you. I would try to figure out really well what this is.
Also don't forget that if you decide to live together her family more or less becomes yours as well, because a good family connection is generally speaking more important than anything else for a Thai, so you better make sure you can get along with them well.

Here's my advice for what it's worth. Find out where in the west she is. Then look up the closest hospital that she could get a pregnancy scan at.
Once located inform her you have a friend, relative, colleague, whatever, who is a doctor at said hospital and will do the scan for free, she just has to tell you when she's free and you will arrange everything.
If she gives you a date and time, you pay and book the appointment.
If she turns down the offer of free medical access and comes up with another reason why the money needs to go to her first... Then you know for certain it's a con.

You met this chick in a bar in Thailand, 'hung out' with her for about a month, you went home to your country, she went to the USA where she has spent time over over the past few years, then she contacted you from the U.S. and told you she was up the duff? If that is the case, I would treat her claim with a great deal of scepticism. There's three possibilities and I would give them equal weight:
1. She's not up the duff at all and this is a scam to get you to pay for fake ultrasounds and other bogus medical expenses etc.
2. She is up the duff, but she knows the kid isn't yours , or maybe isn't 100% sure if it's yours, or maybe isn't even sure exactly who the father is.
3. She is up the duff and she knows 100% it's your kid.
I don't think it's a scam because you're only 21 and Thai women know young guys usually don't have serious money. She's not going to waste her time trying to scam a young guy when she could focus on an older guy who she knows has decades of savings behind him. I think it's option 2 or 3. I think if you do a runner on her, that could haunt you in later years. I also don't think you'll be able to make her take any course of action she doesn't want to take. If she wants to have this baby, she's going to do it (she wants an ultrasound which indicates she's made her decision). So that's out of your hands. It's a tough one, but I think your only choice is to hang in there and do a paternity test. However, you may get so attached to her and the baby that even if it turns out not to be biologically yours, you still won't be able to turn your back on them. It wouldn't be the first time that's happened in Thailand...In a nutshell, you're just going to have to make the best of a bad situation. I wouldn't advise running away from it; face it head on in one way or the other. Stay in touch with us, we'll help you along the way.

Been going to Thailand for 12 years and we have a 11 yr old son. I retire this fall and will b moving to Korat. We Skype twice a day. I told her from the beginning that I would retire at 62. When I lived in the USA I was married to a very pro-life woman. My Thai wife is devoutly Buddhist and is just as pro-life, maybe more. Abortion is not illegal in Thailand, true, but it is abhorrent to practicing Buddhists. I'm a Christian but its obvious to me that Buddhism celebrates life.

My Buddhist Thai girlfriend got pregnant and she had an abortion. I’d say to this lady “it’s not the right time for children, please have an abortion” and take it from there.

very difficult situation. One question I have is If she and her family are so reputable and well-off, why arent they seriously considering the idea of having an abortion? Rich families in America would tell the daughter to have the abortion, given the circumstances. After all, the pregnancy was not intended, the daughter doesnt really know you or your family, you dont have any money. If this woman is such a winner, and with both of you being so young, why isnt her family telling her she's too young to go ahead with the pregnancy? Of course, there is the religious aspect, assuming they are very religious. But if they only want to avoid an abortion on religious grounds, isnt that a reason for you to argue stronger for having the abortion? In other words, if absent the religious factor, they really dont want you or your kid, you shouldnt want any part of them. And dont forget their religious feelings should not govern what you want to do. It seems to me that 21 is just too young. And if her family is so well-off, why isnt she already involved with some other well-off guy, especially since she's 23. Rich families in SEA make it their #1 job to get their daughters hooked up with another well-off families.

Thailand is the only place I’ve been where everyone personally knows an S worker, if they are not one themselves. In the U.S. I’d see it as a reflection on a woman if her friend was an S worker. In Thailand that’s her sister, mom, auntie, neighbor and/or best friend.

I haven’t lived in any villages, maybe they don’t know S workers, but from the sound of it that’s what many of the village daughters are doing when they tell their parents they’re just waitressing at a “bar beer”. It’s a shame because many tourists will ask normal women “how much” but also . . . Well, leave it at that until you live there for awhile.

Perhaps things have changed since whoever wrote that, Wikipedia is not classed as an academically reliable source of info. I know a few, relatively devout Bhuddists (now middle aged) who have had abortions with no issues or stigma. Maybe some villages have their ideas but I'm pretty sure that its not as frowned upon across most of Thailand as the article suggests... if at all nowadays.

According to a NIH study if found from 2023 among its findings a survey was done 3 of the question provided statements and asked to Strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, or strongly disagree. The three statement I an highlighting are as follows. 1. Abortion is Deletion(changed the word because of youtube) 2. Abortion is wrong 3. Abortion is sinful. A the results are as follows for what was the largest percentage 1. 53% strongly disagree 2. 58% Strongly disagree and number 3. 62% strongly disagree. Now what I see here that if you add in the disagree with the strongly disagree about 80% of the Thais surveyed seem to be for abortion. Though further reading on the study show it is very situational when a pregnancy between two healthy consenting adults happens those number go down.
