    Love to see a video on how to adjust your timing at the plate. So many kids that can hit 45-50 mph have trouble adjusting to faster pitchers as well as players that are used to facing 55-60 or faster.

    Hey Justin,
    Speaking of batting tee's, you mentioned about improper hitting off the tee, well, the first thing about hitting is not about the tee, it is about the body movement concerning good weight shift and shoulder tilt which allows a batter to bring the barrel down into a level plane with the downward flight of the incoming ball with a slight {5degree} upswing following the tail end of contact, the shoulders do not/should not rotate during their approach to contact, the shoulders have/should have an {UP AND DOWN TILT} 0n a {LATERAL AXIS} all on a {LEVEL PLANE,} The rear knee pivot, {no squishing the bug,} Just Good smooth weight shift {activates the positive forward hip rotation} which also activates and regulates the shoulder tilt concerning the flight angle of the incoming flight of the ball which brings the barrel down into a level plane with the downward flight of the incoming ball followed by a {5Degree} up swing following barrel to ball contact. The standard tee does not allow for this to happen
    The second thing about tee's is that the standard tee does not allow a batter to successfully focus on and make contact on the the proper area/spot on the ball, actually the standard tee forces batters to stroke mostly level on the ball, the only tee that allows a batter to make good focused barrel to ball contact on/at the proper angle is the {BACK SPIN TEE,} remember the shoulders do not/should not rotate during their approach to barrel to ball contact, they have/should have an up and down tilt on a lateral axis all on a level plane. Check the back spin demo's out.

    Nicely done,sitting here with my 10yr old watching this. I not only enjoyed this but it also reinforced what I’ve been telling him. It’s amazing how a dad can explain the same things to his kid and they give you a certain look,then they hear someone like yourself and say,”they know what they’re talking about dad”. Having coached his two older brothers I should be used to it...lol. What’s your opinion on the 2 T drill,one directly in front of the other only the back T is slightly higher?

    Great video, I have personally turned trying to hit home runs off the tee from home plate to develop power and feeling what that swing feels like, I played college ball and since then have really worked on my mechanics on a tee. Cal Ripken jr would do this after bad games, his philosophy is that it is impossible to hit a ball 350ft+ with bad mechanics from a tee. I stay within my swing and it offers a personal challenge and forces your swing to be precise and powerful to get good launch angle and backspin. What are your thoughts for an advanced skill level player to do this drill

    Hey, how's it going Coach Justin!?
    Quick question: Recently I've been working with the Freshman team coach at my high school and he's teaching us to swing down on the ball. He tells us to swing down kinda like if we're chopping wood. I have seen you're previous videos on this topics. He said if I don't do it his way (the incorrect way) I won't get any playing time. What's something I can tell the coach or should I ignore his technique?

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Honestly, I wouldn't disagree with him and make a big scene out of it, because he just won't play you. Just nod your head and say okay, but don't actually swing like that. Use what I show in these videos and crush the ball swinging on plane with the pitch, like all the pros do! You'll be in the lineup because of your performance and your coach will be happy because he thinks you're listening to him and swinging down!

      Jonathan,
      You are in between a rock and a hard place,
      The thing his coach needs to do is to learn about hitting and stop attempting to teach from his own personal opinion or uneducated opinions/guessing of others, opinionated coaching, teaching and instruction is one of the main reasons that our athletes are and have been getting the wrong messages.
      the first thing we as coaches or otherwise certainly do not need or want to do is to put our athletes in the middle and get them all confused which is one of the main problems now within the coaching ranks, his coach may be telling his batters to swing down, which is definitely wrong due to the fact that he may dong so due to his viewing in Ted's book the {SCIENCE OF HITTING,} {BUY IT,} his demo which shows Ted driving the blade of an ax directly down into a tree which can be very confusing because there Ted is only demonstrating the {proper hand} position at the point of blade to tree contact which is the same hand position as barrel to ball contact
      Refer to my above comments concerning tee's I have given an explanation about body movement and barrel movement, the barrel movement certainly is not stroking down, it is Stroking/Bringing the barrel {DOWN,} {INTO] A {LEVEL PLANE} {WITH/INTO and through the downward flight of the incoming BALL with a slight {5 DEGREE UPSWING} following barrel to ball contact, which is quite different than just stroking down at the ball, again, buy Ted's book, {THE SCIENCE OF HITTING,} Although there has been some body movement changes and or added due to Sports Science research that is not mentioned there is a great deal of baseball to be learned in his book. When you view elite experienced batters look at them, right handed batters from the right side at a {45Degree} side, front angle in particular, view their body angle/tilt at the point of contact, do you see them swinging down at the ball? as his coach mentions? {ABSOLUTELY NOT.}
      If his coach attempts to force your son do it his way or will not let him play, see about him playing for another team whose coach is not an uneducated, opinionated dictator.
      I hope my comments have given you some positive insights concerning some of the aspects of hitting.
      Best of luck
      Don Ervin

      Hey JR... Marie is so right... rock and a stinky spot... the hitting 'down on the ball' philosophy is really old school and was popularized by Charlie Lau in the 50's and 60's. His best pupil was George Brett and that success solidified Lau as a guru. (Having Don Drysdale host your training videos helped, also.) Too bad. Brett had exceptional bat control but I will say this... having studied video of Brett... frankly, he didn't always swing down but was more level, very often ascending, in his bat path. The idea of hitting down on the ball is b/c coaches want contact and rely on poor defense. This works for 10 yr old's (and women's fast pitch softball... skilled slap hitting) but as defenses get better and pitching gets better... a descending swing plane just won't hold up. Like Coach Justin explains over and over in his video's, the bat path must match the plane of the pitch. I have been a hitting coach for many years. I'm no genius... I copy what the best hitters do and teach the kids to do that. Several of my private lesson students got in a major spit'n match with their travel ball coach. Like your coach... if you hit the ball hard... he thinks he's doing his job. Your coach won't change. It's like a fanaticism for these guys... like the flat earth types... they just won't see it. The hitting position you see with Coach Justin is MLB. Stay with it, kid. That coach will become an old memory soon enuff. Trust me, having coached for a long time... when you're driving the ball to the grass... he'll take credit for it, but who cares... you're the one hitting the ball, not him. Best of luck, keep your chin up and don't give in. Cheers!

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining

      It's a similar concept, but the thing I dislike about that tool is you can't see the ball flight. With a tee, you can see the trajectory and if you're hitting line drives or fly balls/ground balls. I would definitely invest in a quality tee and add that to your arsenal.

    All pretty good advice here, but I don't think you need to take a lot of swings off a tee generally. If you're dealing with stride issues, practice dry with no bat in front of a mirror! Force yourself to go slowly and then increase to full speed. Then when everything feels right, find a space, use a bat but no ball. Everything still good? Don't use a tee. Face real pitching if possible.
