    I just had my first highschool at bat and I felt extremely stiff and frozen, I struck out on 6 pitches and took 2 REALLY good fastballs. Even though Ive played my whole life I feel like I was more nervous because Im playing at the varsity level for the first time. Could u do a video on how to feel mentally prepared and how to not freeze up at the plate

      Same thing happened to me in grade 9. Took a fastball right down the middle for strike three. I was just nervous. Best of luck to u in the future man.

    Good info...my high school coach used to make us do bat throws for extension. We would also do fence drills with a string tied along the fence at a slight upward angle to "get on plane with the pitch"..thanks love your videos

    Great video thanks! My son opens up his front foot which causes him to pull away from the ball. Do you have any drill to work on fixing that?

    Hey coach...saw an older video about leading off from first base and not making false steps...covered it a practice ago. Also a big fan of your drop step videos. I used red solo cups to indicate a false steps off first. We did some base running, but it was a bit less organized them i would prefer (8-10YO). Any thoughts \ ideas on drills? Also planning on doing some full field drills with the team, but concerned that I might loose too many kids attention if i spend too much time talking. Any help would be appreciated..keep up the great work...you keep making look like I know more then I do😉

      Hey Peter! Thanks for the comment and I'm glad to hear you're a fan of the videos. I'm glad to hear you're asking a question about base running, not just conditioning. I don't like seeing coaches do "random conditioning" at the end of a baseball practice. Conditioning is important, but there should be a purpose behind it. That being said, a drill you can try that incorporates both is this... Have your players all line up at home plate. One at a time, they are going to get in the box and visualize a pitcher on the mound. They will then execute a swing and sprint through first base. Again, it's important that it's not just running and there's a purpose. Have them immediately break down when they run through first and shift their eyes to the right, looking for a potential overthrow or passed ball where they can advance. So have them do 3-5 sprints to first. After that, they can work on going home to second like a double. Then line them up at first base, practice taking leads, and do 3-5 sprints going 1st to 3rd. You can even have a coach on 3rd telling them to either "stand up" or "slide." You can also practice 2nd to home and even tagging from 3rd base. Spending 15-20 mins at the end of a practice doing this a few times per week will help tremendously!

    Hit the d*mn ball! LoL, great stuff in all honesty. I’m getting ready to start teaching my son the basics and I wanted to make sure I remembered all the fundamentals before I start with my own expectations. You also gave me great insight how to coach without ego. I sure as hell wasnt going to tell him to watch it on TH-cam first but after I show him a few things I’ll send him your way!

      You're welcome Tasha! I'm going to recommend you check out my "Mental Approach" playlist here on TH-cam. I've got a few videos on there already that will really help him in terms of handling his nervousness. I'll be making more mentality videos soon. I'd also recommend checking out our training program, the Diamond Mindset! He would get a TON of value from that

    I’ve heard you want to drive the cap of the bat to the ball and than twist for best contact. Should I do that or drive with a open face bat throughout.

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never recommend driving the cap of the bat or twisting. In fact that's the first time I've ever heard that. Keep your bat on plane with the pitch for as long as possible. Your hands should be palm up, palm down at the point of contact!

    Seriously, dude. There are no absolutes in hitting. Hitters, all the time, mistime a pitch and make good contact. Hitters fail to recognize a pitch and make good contact.
    You cannot, nor can you ever, test properly the things you claim. There are only recommendations and tendencies. There are no absolutes.
