日本100名城 ｢伊賀上野城｣ Iga Ueno Castle, One of Japan's 100 best castles

｢伊賀上野城｣は大坂城を中心とする豊臣の守りを固める為に 秀吉に仕えていた筒井定次により1585年に築かれました。当時は三層の天守閣があったとの記述があります。秀吉の死後徳川の権力が増し、今度は大阪城の豊臣に対する防御の為に、築城の名手と言われた藤堂高虎が徳川の命で城主となり 大阪城にも匹敵する高さ約30ｍもの高石垣を含め大改築をしました。五層の天守閣も計画されたが、建設中の1612年に暴風雨で倒壊し、その後幕府が 城普請を禁じた為に天守閣は再建されませんでした。 現在の天守閣木造三層の大天守と二層の小天守からなり、地元の代議士川崎克が私財を投じ、多くの協力者の支援も得て1935年に再建されたもので、その優美な姿から｢白鳳城｣とも呼ばれています。
｢俳聖殿（はいせいでん）｣は地元で生まれた俳聖松尾芭蕉の生誕300年を記念するはは木造建築物で1942年に建てれ、松尾芭蕉の旅姿を模したものと言われています。
｢伊賀流忍者博物館｣では、伊賀流忍者の資料の展示、敵の攻撃に備えて様々な仕掛けが隠されている忍者屋敷、忍者実演ショーがあるようですが、今回は時間の関係で中には入れませんでした。
｢田楽座わかや｣は、江戸時代の文化年間創業で200年以上の歴史を誇る老舗。有機栽培の大豆で手作りされた豆腐、自家熟成のお味噌を炭火で丁寧に焼き上げる伊賀名物の｢とうふ田楽｣は香ばしく、伝統的な味わいを楽しめる人気のお店です。
"Iga-Ueno Castle" was constructed in 1585 by Sadatsugu Tsutsui, who served Hideyoshi, with the intention of strengthening Toyotomi's defences around Osaka Castle. It is said that the castle had a three-storey keep at that time.
After Hideyoshi's death, Tokugawa's power increased, and in order to counter Toyotomi in Osaka Castle, Takatora Todo, who was said to be a master castle builder, became the lord of this castle by Tokugawa's order and made extensive reconstruction, including a 30-meter high stone wall comparable to Osaka Castle.　A five-story keep was planned, but it collapsed during a storm in 1612, and was never rebuilt because the shogunate forbade the construction of castles.
The current keep, which consists of a three-story wooden main keep and a two-story smaller keep, was reconstructed in 1935 by Katsu Kawasaki, a member of the House of Representatives, who invested his own money and the support of many others.
"Haiseiden Hall", built in 1942 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Matsuo Basho, a local haiku master, is a wooden structure that is said to have been modeled after Matsuo Basho's traveling appearance.
"Igaryu Ninja Museum" offers a fascinating insight into the world of Iga Ninja. It features a range of intriguing exhibits, including materials used by these legendary warriors, a ninja house with a variety of tricks to prepare for enemy attacks, and a demonstration show. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I was not able to enter the museum this time.
"Dengakuza Wakaya" is a long-standing establishment with a history of over two centuries, founded during the Bunka era of the Edo period. This popular restaurant offers a traditional taste of "Tofu
Dengaku", a specialty of Iga, is crafted with organically grown soybeans and home-aged miso, and carefully grilled over charcoal fire.
