      What do you think about using a bubble float in a similar manner? If you completely fill one it just acts as a casting weight but I dont know if its going to get the same results, I was considering using it instead of my bombarda on my lrf combo. What do you think?

    • @whitetroutchannel
      @whitetroutchannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@weefunkster mate bubble and fly is a well established method for catching trout (too good infact, i think its banned in scotland) presentation wise it works a treat but the problem with them is striking fish with one, theyve a tendancy to drag and be unpredictable under water and they create a lot of extra wake this is why personally i think the bombarda floats have the edge, less resistance under water and less drag means it harder for this fish to detect, but bubble and fly WILL and DOES work mate i guess its just preference at the end of the day

      What do you do with older lures? Mines always seem to rust, can you give them a scotchbright with some oil and add new swivels/hooks or do you just buy new ones? To keep the shine up I mean? I mostly use a Toby 10g with 6lb line straight through

      @@nodecency4564 sorry mate i only seen this so apologies for late reply, the links on the abu toby lures are not great quality and do rust over time but theres a few things i do that seem to help, when your changing lures dry the older one off best you can before it goes into the tackle box, if the damps in your box and the lids closed its already creating the process of rusting, so try to put them in a bone dry as you can, try not to load drawers in boxes with lures either, theres not much air circulates in a pile of lure bodies split links and hooks, i go 2 lures max on each drawer, when i return home the lures ive used are properly rised under luke warm fresh water givin a good dry off with kitchen paper then put back into the box which i leave with the lid open for a few hours, all these things wont stop rust because nothing can but it seems to slow things a lot for me and ive lures that are decades old and still catchin, hope this helps a little and again apologies for late reply

    very good advice and well explained. I am down in the south of England and i fish for Bass. There are a lot of migratory sea trout here and i have spent so much time trying for a trout to no avail. The advice you have offered here is something i shall try tonight , basically i can see i need to scale down my rig and lure size .
    I can see that i am going to have to persevere and keep trying , it is not easy as this river i am fishing is the second fastest flowing tidal estuary in England . The sea trout are usually caught upstream by the fly fishermen 12 miles up from the estuary i fish for Bass. But the trout are on migration now and i am seeing them jump clear of the water at night. They are right out in the middle so i shall need to cast with a bombarda . I have tiny metals and shrimp/fry fly patterns so your advice is superb for what i am attempting to achieve.

      it can pay off mate if its bright, those floats really do reflect a lot of light, a rub with a brillo pad roughs them up enough to stop the glare, you can swop the wire for a 40/50lb length of flurocarbon and lock the float with a crimp each end and lock of 2 small swivels but the wire trace does the same and most anglers have a few lying about somewhere, thanks for watching as always graeme 👍👍

    Do you have an opinion about using single lures rather than trebles on one's lures? I see with watching your good videos that you use both. Can I ask what size and variety you are using and if u subscribe to adding 1 or even 2 additional spilt rings with attaching the hook to the lure? Thanks

    • @whitetroutchannel
      @whitetroutchannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      ive been fishing now with purely singles now for about a year, its a funny subject but i think overall the best i can say is thou maybe the hook uprate drops slighty the fish you do hook dont come off and off course secondary its better for the fish and easier for me to unhook them, yes mate i use 2 splits on fixed lures and a split ring/spring link if on line thru lures, it deff helps and makes it more difficult for them to lever a lure free from head shakes, as for hooks mate ive been using v.m.c. inlines ranging between 2 and 6 pending on lure size, but all being said seatrout are the houdinis of all fishes and sometimes its just in the lap of the gods as to wether or not they stay on or come off

    Quite similar to a technique used in Scotland for as long as I can remember called the sinking bubble. Basically it was just a weight made from resin ( home made ) but we would attach it to the end with droppers above.

    • @whitetroutchannel
      @whitetroutchannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i think its the next evolution, the bubble and fly is very popular too here in northern ireland, the only slight difference is the bombarda float is a little more stream lined and cuts down on drag when you strike but they are more or less the same, thanks for watching and leaving a comment ian 👍👍

    • @ianmcburney848
      @ianmcburney848 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for replying. With the sinking bubbles being home made we could make them any shape we wanted. I found making them cigar shaped cut down on drag. I also see some advantages of the bombardasuch as takes on the drop. I'll deffo be giving it a go 👍

    Hi again, forgot to ask last time. Do you have a preference for the slow sink, fast sink or floating Bombarda or does your choice depend on conditions/ currents etc?

    • @whitetroutchannel
      @whitetroutchannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      my choice is prob based where im going to be fishing, the sinking versions are good for clean bottoms like mud or sand but the slow sink is better for keepin the fly/lure above the weed, a sinking and an intermid bombarda at 15g would cover you for most styles, i dont like the floating ones because i think the surface wake spooks them, hope this helps mate
