Years ago, I tried that. One early June, I caught a 5" largemouth bass, took him home for the 55 gallon tank my bro-in-law gave me. By the next year, he was nearing 14". I took him back to the quarry pond and released him. What a fun fish to raise!
Dude congratulations that is the coolest story ever. Folks had a place on a world class largemouth lake, fondly remember the monsters cruising down the docks, after baitfish, but the largest ones never bit much. Turns out my neighbor or my parents neighbor caught the fish near the nuclear plant only to release them off his dock….and had been rehoming them for years……miss that place…..
Dude, you’ve truly gone back to the early roots of your channel with this one! Love every aspect…tiny creek, situated in an urban area, lots of species, but having the aquarium with camera to truly appreciate what nature offers in this setting, this really goes back to, and fully illustrates, your original philosophy for your channel. Super enjoyable!!
I love that you just hop into this man and don't care about anyone driving buy. You're focused on you and doing what you love. That's why I subbed to you awhile back. Blessings.
I used to do this in a tiny creek that ran alongside a railroad track on the edge of my neighborhood. I found out later it was actually part of a system of ditches that farmers had built for irrigation way back. The whole system was connected to a small river at either end so there was some flow. I used to catch tiny smallmouth bass, northern pike, perch and bluegills. On rare occasions I caught brown trout. I made my own tiny lures and rods too.
When I was younger there was a little gully one house over from mine. I used to bring my ultralight and a beetle spin and go catch whatever bit! That was one chapter in my love for fishing, and something that definitely stoked the fire. Great video, keep it simple.
You bring back some very good memories of my childhood. I used to catch northern pike, pickerel, Rock bass, perch, largemouth bass, trout eastern painted Turtles, bullheads, catfish, frogs. I made my own 4 ft long aquarium. I used to have half water and half land couple of little streams and waterfalls inside of it. Got some native plants. In Upstate New York it was beautiful when I got done with it. One time I caught two 18-in rainbow trout and put them in a bathtub in my basement for about a week. They would eat 10 to 15 large minnows a day. I put them back in the stream that I caught them in. It was fun to watch them. Thank you for sharing your experience and beautiful fish!
This is just one of many reasons why I love your channel John. You don’t care what anyone thinks and you just do what you LOVE and show us how it is DONE! So close to 100K and that silver button play! I started when you had maybe 10K. Take care and God Bless!
I love those little coosas. It’s amazing how prominent their colors are when you put them in that tank. I have an even deeper appreciate for the fish colors now 😍😍
So cool seeing them up close like that. Surprised the water was so clear. Some people have no idea how much life is in their neighborhood creek or pond.
Your guest stars are always so easy to work with! For the last few weeks, going to my creek has been like visiting an aquarium. Plenty to see, but no bites. Cast in a worm or lure, the fish all rush to the splash, then just stare at your bait.
Great little video there, Brother John! Your Scripture verse reminded me of some things. My Mother passed away August 22, 2003. Praise God, though, she was a very devout Bible-Believing Christian. She was 72 when she passed away. Her body is in the Grave, but her soul is in The Paradise of God! One glorious day, I'm going to get to see her again! Yesterday would've been her 90th Birthday. She's home with the Lord, though, so she's in a far, far better place than we are. One of these days, though, all that are in Christ are going to be changed, and we'll be going home to be with Jesus!!! Keep on fishin', but, more importantly, keep on fishin' for the souls of men, women, boys and girls. Keep on being faithful for the sake of Jesus Christ, and you'll be richly rewarded in the end!✝️✝️✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸!!!
John thank you for posting these videos my son and I absolutely love watching them. You are an inspiring man! Thank you for all the positivity that you send through your messages.
Thank you for sharing some backyard fishin' from your town. I like that idea of the aquarium and aerator to get a good look at the different species you got there. Nothin' but love comin' from Southern California.
I keep 2 native fish tanks. A 75 gallon and a 55 gallon. I have bluegill, green sunfish and a 12 in long northern pike in the big tank. In the 55 I keep 3 longear sunfish. I also keep giant crawdad in both tanks. It’s loads of fun at feeding time. Plus you can learn a lot about fish behavior by watching them
Love the little large mouth. We had a little spotted bass for several years in our 55gallon aquarium. Learned a bit about their behavior watching that guy.
Awesome idea John, I sure hope you stopped in at Checkers before you left!! Next time you come thru there there's going to be a bunch of people fishing out there!! Ha ha!!
Wow! This one is like alot of your first videos. Just little random creeks or ditches. Really enjoyed seeing them up close in the aquarium. Great video!
Years ago I was a shift manager, in a casino, in Mesquite, Nv. Bobby Garland owned an artificial bait manufacturing business in Hurricane, Utah. He used to visit the casino on occasion and he and I became friends. I caught my first largemouth bass on his boat. He was always a gentleman and soft spoken. He gave me couple of his original baits. He made them with flexible rubber tubing and a cigarette lighter. I still have them today. They were called a fat gitzit. The more successful he became, the nicer he seemed to get. When you mentioned his name and his lure, you brought back a wonderful memory. Thank you. I am subscribing to your channel because I love your content. 60 years ago as a young boy fished many streams just like the one you're fishing in today. Thanks for that memory. I hope your channel grows and you become successful. Wishing you luck, Jerry
Good fishing from there, pretty surprising & bonus you are next to Checkers. Have fun fish on. 🐟🐠🐟take care. No matter how much traffic noise you can always hear the Harleys!!!
My favorite thing about your channel is their are absolutely no gimmicks, just pure good ol’ fishing which a lot of the TH-cam fishing community lacks anymore.
Definitely goes along with your motto to fish anywhere, fish everywhere! Of your videos this is one of my favorites; in Northeast Oklahoma I grew up near many small creeks and see the same type of action (minus the small mouths) that you catch. Thanks! Great video all around!
Thanks! Years ago an " old man" neighbor told my son's about catching bass and bream in a small creek from a spring downhill from our houses. Unfortunately pollution has killed them all off, turtles too.
My Grandma and I would fish brackish road side ditches near her home in coastal North Carolina like this when I was a kid. It was amazing the amount of biodiversity there was in those ditches -- shrimp, blue crabs, bluegill, sunfish, catfish, bass.
What an interesting idea. I find native species much more interesting than exotics. Our local aquarium has a bass tank and I could stare at them for hours. They’re so much more relevant than something from some far off place. Same with the zoo, I look for the natives, bobcats etc.
Great How To video. Brings back childhood memories. Can you do a video on favorite rod & reel setup with top 6 lures for creeks & top 6 lures for lakes. God bless you for making us happy 😊 😊
And this is why I'm loving this channel. 😍 You fish like I do. Where there's water, there's probably fish 🐟. I'm just happy to get a line in the water.
These type of videos are the best. If you want to double or triple your species count in places like this go even smaller with your lures/bait. You’ll be surprised what you catch.
Dude. Great freaking job... Amazing footage of their colors. Get an aerator and do a video like 5 minutes long of just them swimming and all their colors maybe?
I grew up fishing a small Creek in McKinney Texas it would go narrow but you would always find big old holes filled with like catfish and stuff I'd catch him and eat them love your videos good memories
I think John caught some fish from the roof to ground drainage tube at the 2nd rest stop TN southbound. Or was it the 1st KY off I65 behind the visitors center horse display??? Lol. I love the grass roots aquarium touch brother. I'll keep an eye out for your truck...
It took about 4 seconds to realize this is my hometown as well . I spent my whole life fishing the creeks around town including this one. Pretty neat. I know where the really good spots are tho :) good job !
I take these CFA videos in a heartbeat over the collaboration videos, kayak videos etc... This channel used to be about fishing overlooked spots and doing it on a tight budget. That stuff was way more interesting.
I’m so jealous of people living in areas with water. I finally get back into fishing when I live in the desert. I’ve found a few consistent places in the Phoenix metro, but I just can’t do stuff like this. Any roadside water dries up way too quickly. We have canals but I’ve never had much luck w them. Anyway… fun stuff
Looks like the ditch is the growing area for coosa bass in that water system. Shows the importance of small waters for the ecosystem. Very nice vid!!! As a fisheries biologist, I wouldve done electrofishing and check out the whole spectrum of fish species. Greetings from germany
I catch creek gems all the time Luke this. Some have surprised me. Caught a nice channel cat in one tiny pond. Many years ago, I took my nephews down, I threw 12 bare hooks in. Had a fish in every hook. They still talk about that to this day
absolutely love the creative ideas you come up with for your videos, John! Roadside mobile aquarium...Hmmm, looking forward to seeing what your next super idea will be!! :-) Keep them coming, brother!

They are very fun to raise. Smart and attentive fish
@@jeremyblackwater439 The cat tried to scare him-- once. It went the other way, in a hurry. I can't think of any time I have laghed that hard.
Thats cool

Most the people driving by don't care either. Half probably don't even see him. 2021, distractions everywhere!
We actually just scooping with the net

Same here. As soon as you said “gully” I figured you were from Louisiana. We use to drive around outside of town hitting gulleys and “ditches”.
This was your best idea for a vid yet. Love seeing the fish in the aquarium. Their colors really popped in there.
Mad respect! I would have spent most of my time hooked on obstructions in such a confined spot.

Let’s get him to 100K subs for that silver play button. Great seeing you in our hometown.
Which town?
I love those little coosas. It’s amazing how prominent their colors are when you put them in that tank. I have an even deeper appreciate for the fish colors now 😍😍
Where to catch Coosa bass? Never seen one.
I love how you keep your videos different. The Creek Jedi ROCKS 🤘
So cool seeing them up close like that. Surprised the water was so clear. Some people have no idea how much life is in their neighborhood creek or pond.
I love when you do videos like this, it reminds me of places I like to fish.
You never seem to run out of ideas! And you seemed so happy in this video. Thanks very much. It made me happy too.
Wow! Really see how pretty those Cousa Bass are up close in the Aquarium. AMEN! I love that scripture!
Amazing watching all those cool fish being caught out of an everyday creek wherever you are at. Fun stuff dude
Cool idea. It's cool to see what's in a ditch like that and having it in an aquarium really demonstrates it.
Your guest stars are always so easy to work with! For the last few weeks, going to my creek has been like visiting an aquarium. Plenty to see, but no bites. Cast in a worm or lure, the fish all rush to the splash, then just stare at your bait.

First time seeing your video and what a great idea to put it in the tank so we can see them up close.
What fun. We collect ditch fish for our aquarium. Lots of videos too.
Awesome idea John, I sure hope you stopped in at Checkers before you left!! Next time you come thru there there's going to be a bunch of people fishing out there!! Ha ha!!
Cool little video. Great reminder for me that fishing doesn't have to be complicated. I need to take the kiddo out more. Thanks.
Gotta say one of the coolest videos I’ve seen in a while. Nice work!
Fishing like this is so much fun. My partner and I used to stop at every little creek on our way too and from work.
Wow! This one is like alot of your first videos. Just little random creeks or ditches. Really enjoyed seeing them up close in the aquarium. Great video!
You ought to do a video on casting a spinning reel. I really think it has a lot to do with your success. You flat place your bait in the right places.
Years ago I was a shift manager, in a casino, in Mesquite, Nv. Bobby Garland owned an artificial bait manufacturing business in Hurricane, Utah. This is great. I love looking over bridges looking to what fish are hiding below. The tank is a great idea.
Where there is water there are fish. Even if it's unfortunately very polluted some species can still amazingly survive in it.
You should do more videos like this!! I love seeing fish in unexpected places
👍! First time I’ve ever seen this kind of fishing out of a local creek! Right on! Excellent video! Thank you!
I love all the traffic zooming by! That’s funny, and you caught a crap ton of fish, nice job!!
been following you for a long time pal... You have turned this thing into a great channel! Keep up the awesome work my brother... Wade
My Grandma and I would fish brackish road side ditches near her home in coastal North Carolina like this when I was a kid. It was amazing the amount of biodiversity there was in those ditches -- shrimp, blue crabs, bluegill, sunfish, catfish, bass.
its crazy how many different fish can be in there
It’s amazing the life that abounds in little pockets if we just slow down and look. I’m surprised no kids stopped to check out the aquarium.
Love all your videos.
This is one of my favorites.
Love what you do, but getting to see the variety of fish up close was a real nice touch.
You’re funny, man. I love it. I can’t believe you caught those out of that small drainage creek. Good job, bud.
That was quite impressive. It changes how i will look at ditches from now on.
This was lovely bro, I really enjoyed how we kept getting to see the colors and details in the fish you caught
Definitely a great idea for a vid
Again, always a great adventure! Thanks for sharing.

Great How To video. Brings back childhood memories. Can you do a video on favorite rod & reel setup with top 6 lures for creeks & top 6 lures for lakes. God bless you for making us happy 😊 😊
I remember when John had his aquarium with fish in it. It was on the toolbox. I got a kick out of it.
Just love fishing little unknown streams, never know what your gonna pull out.
And this is why I'm loving this channel. 😍
You fish like I do. Where there's water, there's probably fish 🐟. I'm just happy to get a line in the water.
WOW that was fantastic thanks
This was a really cool video to watch. it amazed me to see all those tiny fish just living life in that stream.
Awesome video John! Amazing the fish that you find right in the middle of the hustle and bustle! Keep up the great videos my friend!
I love this fishing. Very nice to see in a aquarium. The sunfish are my favourites. We don't have sunfish in Holland.
Those Coosa bass have beautiful markings...cool display idea. You always find neat places to fish!
Glad to see you are doing the ditch fishing stuff...that's what made me start watching your channel...
This is so fun to watch! Puts a smile on my face.
Please do this again, it was a pleasure to watch!!!! 👍😄
This is the type of fishing I love 😩❤️
dude, this is some very interesting video and fishing style! absolutely love your roadside aquarium idea. Keep doing more of this!!!!!!!
Great idea for a episode. Ive wanted to raise some creek fish for awhile now.
I spoke too soon
Pretty sure that first sunny was a longear…. That turquoise upper lip is the giveaway!
Great fun catching them all in a small urban creek!
What a great idea! Now I want to do this with the young grandchildren. I'm trying to get them hooked on fishing.😊
Really enjoyed this. Have wondered many times when passing this kind of areas!
This was a very cool video John, Thanks for sharing!!!
Great video keep them coming. A true ambassador for the sport.

I grew up fishing a small Creek in McKinney Texas it would go narrow but you would always find big old holes filled with like catfish and stuff I'd catch him and eat them love your videos good memories
Wow this was so cool to watch I've never thought I'd see so many small fish like this in a small stream in a parking lot, that's so cool. Great video!
My brother and I stocked a pond with Crappie, Catfish , and bass we caught in Creeks and beaver ponds by the road. The pond is full of fish today
What a great idea! Awesome video John!
I think John caught some fish from the roof to ground drainage tube at the 2nd rest stop TN southbound. Or was it the 1st KY off I65 behind the visitors center horse display??? Lol. I love the grass roots aquarium touch brother. I'll keep an eye out for your truck...
Hey! This was really great! You really get to see their beauty. I want to try, now. Thanks.
Its great seeing all those Cousa Bass in that ditch.l also like the aquarium idea.
Never figured that many different fish in a small body of water.Great video.
By far the best video you have every recorded! TOP #1, I love this, so beautiful , So Calm
One of the best fishing expoditions I've ever seen
Make a mini backyard pond it would be awesome
Really cool video, it's amazing how much life lives in those ditches.
I cant believe how much this content had me stuck to the sceen. Cool fishing in your own way. I believe its because i enjoy aquariums.
you should have put up a sign "Roadside Aquarium" Admission $.50! lol
It took about 4 seconds to realize this is my hometown as well . I spent my whole life fishing the creeks around town including this one. Pretty neat. I know where the really good spots are tho :) good job !

Seems like fun ! Montana’s like this ,every ditch has trout!
Very cool fish tank footage!
Those cusa bass would be cool to keep as a pet. I have a largemouth bass I've been raising for 9 months now. So cool to watch him
Looks like the ditch is the growing area for coosa bass in that water system. Shows the importance of small waters for the ecosystem. Very nice vid!!! As a fisheries biologist, I wouldve done electrofishing and check out the whole spectrum of fish species. Greetings from germany

absolutely love the creative ideas you come up with for your videos, John! Roadside mobile aquarium...Hmmm, looking forward to seeing what your next super idea will be!! :-) Keep them coming, brother!
This was so much fun to watch! I live in draught area South Australia, we dont have little streams, creeks etc, you are lucky 😁😄
