TOR Guard discount code no longer works ☹️
Thanks for the really comprehensive review. Have checked out other units but you review sold me on the GL.iNet Beryl AX3000 as a traveller’s router. Results are great. Appreciate your work on the channel.😊
Glad I could help
Thanks for the great review
I just got mine and the main reason is to be able to setup a wireless network in a hotel so I can protect my data when my wife and I travel. It also allows me to cast my pay tv app to a chromecast and watch our regular shows when we are away from home for several weeks at a time.
I just got mine, it's absolutely fantastic.
I live in a dorm, it's big, and many tech students live here. Sooo they try to hack everything they can. Wi-Fi here is included, but only in cable. So everybody has their own router. The ethernet is fast. So i needed a router that was very safe, and also could handle the fast ethernet. And last but not least it needed to have a small range, since my dorm is small and i dont want to have it interupt with other routers.
So this is perfect, i have it on 5G with low TX. Perfect recepetion in my dorm, just not in the neighbors dorm;-)
I use the Beryl AX as a backup, when cable Internet is down.
I set my cell phone up as a hotspot, the Beryl connects to the hotspot, and I connect the Beryl's LAN port to my home router's WAN port. Everything's back online!
Getting one to put in my big rig to connect to any open WiFi.😊
Thank you for this great video! I have a question regarding the VPN: I would like to set up a HTTP Proxy and connect it to a VPN. I read that it’s possible with the gl.inet but I would like to have different IP addresses for different phones connected to the router.
My questions are:
1) will it be possible to switch the IPs without a big hustle in-between connecting the phones?
2) do you think social media platforms like TikTok should be able to detect that it’s a VPN or will it be safe since the VPN isn’t on the actual mobile device but on a router?
I hope you can share your thoughts on these-would appreciate it a lot 🙏🙏
Would you connect the router to the hotel ethernet Jack?
Would that be better than the hotel wifi?
Thanks for the awesome review and walkthrough!
If my main purpose to get this type of router is to set up a dedicated VPN server at home (assume Wireguard will be faster as a VPN server too), which would you recommend between the new Beryl AX and Slate AX? Or would you have any others in mind?
I am after the speed and stability as the VPN server.
Appreciate it! Considering slate has a faster processor, I'd go for that as a server
Hello, I have Cisco Any connect and it does not allow me use outside the U.S. as it restricts my connection while overseas. In addition to that I also have Microsoft Teams and Outlook that I need to connect to however it is restricted when I travel outside the U.S. If I use this devise will I be able to use these applications overseas ? I Connect thru VPN when I have to log on to my work computer.
Thank you in advance for your reply.
What about network's that require you to tap something on a website to connect to their wifi?
Probably the best most indepth Beryl Ax video I've seen with great use cases! The thing I still don't know how to do is log in to a captive portal, like in a hotel, when you have to visit that unsecure page where you enter your last name and room number before you can access the internet...maybe entering the creds in the router GUI is enough, but I just don't have personal experience with it. Does it have to be in VPN client mode, or can you do it in normal repeater mode with VPN server instead?
Appreciate it. Yes you can
There is a great official write up from the company on captive portal. A bunch of things to disable for this purpose.
Essentially, 1. Use repeater mode 2. Use Mac cloning
Is it same as deeper roters? Also, can I add socks 5 proxy with authentication on it ?
FYI the model of this isn't in the video title: GL-MT3000. Thank you for the review!
FYI It's also ax3000 . Appreciate it
how did you get into the configuration page where you can choose the server? I log into my account and cna't figure out how to get to the same page you have
Ebook for sale in regards to best practices for expats and settings to remain at 'Home'?
I like to do PCVR on the go but in order for it to work my PC has to have Internet and be wired (preferably) to the wireless router.
Could I use something like this for that purpose when I'm away from home?
My idea;
Setup my desktop in my hotel, LAN into the desktop. Could the router pull signal to give my desktop Internet while providing a WAP for my VR headset to tap onto so my PC can stream to it?
Thanks for the video.. Would you recommend this over the GL-AXT1800 (Slate AX)? I have seen positives and negatives for both routers.
exactly. Depends on your needs
I work for a Fortune 500 company and live in Mexico. I use this product with VPN to hide my location.
Hello, May I please ask how do you use it to hide your location ? For work I connect thru VPN but when I travel overseas it recognizes my location and I am restricted. I would like to know if I use this devise if my computer will work overseas?
Hellos. How can we hide our location?
@@jennyvillafane4052 doest work.. I use this but not working
@@jennyvillafane4052 because you are using your work's VPN. If you set a VPN in your home network and connect through it then they won't know. Unless of course you still need to use their VPN and the client detects VPN tunnels.
I have located you. You are in Mexico! 🪇
*lets say you travel to locations around the world with open Wi-Fi and you visit these same locations*
*Is there a way that it can automatically connect without having to put the credentials in?*
Do you feel that the Slate AX is noticeably faster when putting things under a strain or is there not much in it for most users?
I don't notice a difference
If I'm using it as a wireless repeater, can the two Lan ports be used to connect devices (i.e can the wan port be used as Lan)?
Yes
Wan changes to lan of needed
Thanks, Great video. My eyesight isn't what it what and your speed test has nice big numbers. Which one is it please ?
No idea. You can pause the video and get real close to your TV or screen and see what it is
If I am using this system to work remotely in America from another country, and if the company I am working for requires the use of a corporate VPN should I be able to connect to the corporate VPN without any issues?
Yeah, you just go into the routers admin panel, and enter your company VPN info, and it should work fine.
I do this with my VPN information. The VPN company I use isn't affiliated with Gl-Net at all, and everything tests fine, and is secure. 👍
Shot out to Jabber for the NWA reference.
😊
Great video ...THANK YOU...
Glad you enjoyed it
Can you run BitTorrent or Transmission Application on the router? To upload magnet or torrent file and torrent without pc
People have put Ubuntu on this..maybe check that out for your needs
Obrigado por mostrar as velocidades com vpn conectado!
Hey I have Cisco any connect it blocks me from using outside the USA, I’m
Not tech savvy, as far as this can I use this on an island? That is specifically what I want it for.
Can be used anywhere there is internet 🙂
@@TheJabberTech which part of tutorial I need to follow to connect correctly, the repeater part or….?
You need a VPN to access outside USA then yes repeater
Does it have capability to login to 'open' wifi networks with splash login prompt, like hotels? Or does it have capability to clone/change MAC address? So i can login thru the splash on my phone and let the router to mimic my phone via Mac clone?
Don't remember. Watch the video
any idea when the Beryl will come back in stock??
They said Amazon stock 25th jan
How do I use my cell phone with it?
Which one should I get out of the two?
Gl.inet gl1300 slate plus or the beryl mt1300?
I'm not sure what the difference is and which one will be better for me when using vpn abroad?
Please help
If you don't need the extra lan port get Beryl.
@@TheJabberTech I think the gla1300 uses wifi5 rather than WiFi 6
I was referring to the slate ax (as shown in video)
@@TheJabberTech oh sorry, yes the slate plus... I'm not sure which one to buy...
The beryl mt1300 or the slate plus gl-A1300
Don't buy slate plus IMO...slower than these newer ones. But from those two older ones, I'd go beryl from what I remember but I reviewed both of those ..check my channel for the reviews
anyone know if NordVPN (or NordLynx?) will work with glinet routers via WireGuard protocol?
Nope
Can it connect to EAP networks like the Slate AX can (user + pass networks)?
Firmware is the same on both units
@@TheJabberTech just bought both and will return the worst one. Thanks!
Just to confirm: The Beryl AX doesn't support EAP (because of different chipset), while the Slate AX does. The Beryl AX does however support captive login pages for hotels (what most hotels use), just not EAP. EAP is a different type of authentication.
Would this device hide my location? I work from home and will be going back and forth to mexico, would this hide my location?
That's one of the features when using a vpn, yes
Thx for reacting. How exactly does that work?
what do you mean? watch the video lol
Can u us your own vpn on this
Can any of these run on a external DC power supply/battery?
Yes, great for airports etc and even on a plane to share one paid WiFi connection with all of your devices.
Where did the admin GUI come from? Kind of magic.
It's a mystery
JabberTech the code is not working with TorGuard !
yes it is, just tried it
code: jabbertech save 50% :D
can this work with roku using a vpn?
Does your roku have wifi 🤔
I tested this with my Apple TV and Roku I put my location as Netherlands. (I have WindScribe for VPN. It allows you to download config files for a set 50 countries for your router.) And Disney+ did not work. Which makes sense cause it’s not allowed there. And Netflix showed a whole bunch of shows that are not accessible in the USA
Nice router but the video is a never ending sales pitch.
Everyone's a critic these days as well
Do you still have the 5g home internet, How’s it been?
Yep! Been awesome, the speeds shown in this vid are from 5G home. On average i get 300+. Once in a while ,like on new years Day when everyone was home, i hit a low of 150 for about an hour but then popped right back to norm
Highest i saw was 650 but mostly well into 400 territory with upload constantly at 100
@@TheJabberTech that’s awesome ,hopefully I get that kind of speed where I live.
Made in china - chinese company - reading company site blogs folks see network traffic going back to china - no thanks! HOw about hooking wireshark up to the WAN port and analyzing what chinese domains it is phoning home too?
that is my concern. do you have made in USA alternatives?
Nothing is made in USA anymore... At least not in this consumer level. The consumer hw lvl will be still made from Chinese parts even whenever presenting by made in USA....
BUT you can check the Czech project Turris which is opensource router made by Czech TLD/CZ operating agency. It's bit more expensive but fully open source and u think all metal not plastic....
Has anyone found any spyware or keyloggers on any of these cheap travel routers?
Glinet wouldn't be in business for this long if they were shady 👀
@@TheJabberTech Thanks for the confidence. I just have a blanket suspicion of computer equipment made in Mainland China for a company headquartered in Hong Kong.
Don't buy any electronics then lol
Plus it's open source so you can put your own OS
@@TheJabberTech FYI, Lenovo did and they're still in business. And that's as far as I'm going down the paranoia rabbit hole.
I don't worry about nonsense like that. Do what feels right for you. Good luck
12 months ago 😂
Yep. You're late!
Keep in mind, it is very annoying when you increase the pitch and volume while you are ending the sentence.
I talk how I talk
@@TheJabberTech TELL EM!!!
Can I use the 2.5G port to connect to PC and the 1G port to Modem?
No
