Habs really needed elite, right handed, two way defenceman (allready have defensive in Guhle and offensive in Hutson).

I was really hoping we were gonna steal Michcov. But after seeing this video I'm really happy with this guy. I think he's gonna flourish in DC. Especially with a coach like Carbery.
An offensive 2 way skilled player like a mini Wilson/Tkachuk with great transition who can also play solid defense and he's with the Caps ?! Pretty awesome even if we got so close of another talented russian.
I look at him here and don't see Wilson, I see *Oshie* but with better skating and more physicality

Incoming all the caps fans. I’ve kept an eye on his draft ranking for months. 2 months before the draft, he was ranked 14th in the league. Everyone knew he would get drafted sooner, but from my original mock draft, I had Leonard going to the caps. Then the michkov train rolled into town as a possibility but Leonard never left my heart. Baby Tom Wilson will be insane

Take Benson, he is a better hockey player. He is also Canadian and you win championships with Mostly Canadian born players. Just look at the last 25 Stanley Cup Champions, those teams had 75% Canadian born players on those teams.
Shoots right perfect fit for Suzuki and Caufield. This kid is going to create space on the ice for these 2 on top of scoring his share of goals. I want this guy.
Okay after watching the draft bummed out we missed on Matvei I am not as bummed now. This guy is fantastic! I live in Columbus and I’d rather have this guy than their pick. This guy at least can dangle not just shoot. Also the hitting is great as well. He is really good at seeing space and creating it whether it’s on o or d. He even picks his head up after a move to see if there’s a good passing option or where to get to open space. This guy is a playmaker and with Miroshnichenko to sling passes to the caps are set! Future is bright maybe michkov was not the answer. Time will tell!
Leonard is going to be taking those shots before Miroschnichenko, who strikes me more, at this point, as a middle-six winger.

I’m interested to see if Andrew Cristal comes to play or not. Ivan started out slow but he’s coming to. If he follows Milanos forecheck he’ll be insane. Great 2 way player.

I have him ranked above Smith and will be sad if he’s not available at 5 for the Habs but a consolation prize of Smith wouldn’t be bad at all. There’s a reason the 2023 draft is viewed as having a ton of top talent.
I’m also a big fan of Reinbacher and think he would be a solid addition to any team but Leonard seems to have that X factor.
What Leonard lacks in height he makes up with being thick, which is actually a plus when trying to predict whether a player may be injury prone. Habs are too fragile so a guy like Michkov would be too much of a risk. Leonard is built like Suzuki. I can see him be the same size… 5’11 208 lbs in a couple of years.

I'd love to pick michkov, but I do not think montreal is soft up front, we got the size of slafkosky, dach, and Anderson, and got tough ruff guys in pezzata. I think Leonard would be a great player but not a guy I'd personally take at 5, I'd rather michkov just because if we look back at the draft in 15 years, we're going to be saying it's the bedard michkov draft.
Rienbacher Is great but we don't exactly need another young defensman, I believe that montreal needs a star up front, we already got a great defenman in hutson, which I know he is small but well be a great offensive player. Rienbacher is a 2 way player that has the ceiling of Drew doughty which is insane, but montreal needs forwards more and we can't pass up on a generational player like michkov

I think it's possible when it's all said and done Leonard is the 2nd best player from this draft class. He is my favorite prospect after the big 4.

i understand why ppl won't compare him to ovechkin because he won't be anywhere near that in terms of production, but to my eyes, his style is similar to early Ovechkin
Leonard obviously looks good but that is a stacked team full of talent and that makes a big difference on the numbers.Also Fantilli put up big numbers looks great ...until he was in the world juniors he looked sub par.This is the thing these guys can beat up on weak lines some weak players but come the nhl they are playing versus the best they won't have the open ice or get away with dipsy doodling.I want to see these guys in pre season but unfortunately the managers have to make their picks next week.
That’s why playing a tough and rugged hard nosed style with great defence will make his transition that much easier. He is not a peripheral player.

Leonard and Perrault were the two guys I had hoping the Penguins were keeping a close eye on at the start of last year and both may still be drafted before Pens spot. Hopefully Perrault isnt nabbed as early as Leonard probably will be now. No later than 8 or 9 Im guessing but Id be a lil surprised if he goes top 5

Most likely. If Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith are gone 2,3,4... I don't see the Habs take Mitchkov and Leonard would be PERFECT on the first line with Suzuki and Caufield. Either him or Benson would be my pick at no 5 considering that Habs doesn't want Mitchkov..

@@maximedeguise9577PLD will be missing out if he decides not to come to Mtl. A top 6 of Caufield - Suzuki - Dach and Slafkovsky - PLD - Leonard will be real good for many years. Also a lot of versatility to juggle those lines throughout the long season and still be extremely productive.
@@BubbleGumPlant it really depends on how much he asks for his contract. We cannot afford him at 8M+. We have all the players you mentioned + Lane Hutson, Logan Mailloux, Kaiden Guhle…
Cap will always be a concern for all teams and I agree that PLD should not be making more than $8M. In terms of fitting all these players under the cap, it shouldn’t be a concern. The argument for Leonard vs Michkov is that Leonard may command less salary while providing equal value when looking at both offense and defense.
If your top 4 players in Suzuki/Caufield/Dach/PLD are making $8M, Slafkovsky and Leonard in the $5-6M range, two of Guhle/Hutson making top pairing money, let’s say $7M each, Mailloux making $6M and Xhekaj making $4.5M… this is pretty typical of a very well balanced payroll where none of these players are overpaid.
That’s the key in managing the cap. It isn’t about having too many good players, it’s about not overpaying any players and extracting max value. If you do end up with too many good players, then you trade one away. That may need to happen with one of Guhle/Hutson/Xhekaj/Harris.
I don’t think you can look at the Habs lineup right now and not say we have too many top 6 players. Adding a Dubois without giving up any significant assets, and without overpaying him would be a positive move.
Hopefully with Bratt signing at $7.875 Dubois realizes that that is his market rate.

You know no one does this in the NHL. Even McDavid and MacKinnon get shut down most times than not. They are sought out for this by every defensive player. Yes, they will get by at times, but man, this won't work in todays NHL. Exibit A: look at Seth Jones' scouting and then now. You won't know til you know. By the way this dudes head is down often, I feel a kronwall coming in the league, and not in this guys favor. Zadorov exists, don't make him pull a Scheifele hit again.
Being a power forward probably works in his favor
He is gonna get punished so hard cutting in the middle like he does. I predict concussions, he will get destroyed by real men defenseman, he will be a perfect target. Maybe what he does work with kids, but with men he will lose his head.
He’s going to get two more years of getting bigger stronger and smarter before he makes the Caps. I’m sure he’ll be around to witness Ovie’s record though.
