    PSA. YOU GOT AN ORIGINAL RUN PAIR. KZ has since changed these, they removed the black sheet of tuning foam from the driver that you can see and they are completely and utterly ruined. Unlistenably hot, wildly unbalanced, not even a subject of taste, they're F tier now. I have both pairs and the originals were truly a segment killer in under $100. Now i wouldnt even pay $10 for them.
    Do not buy the pr2, you can't get the good original version anymore. I don't have a clue why KZ did this, but the current PR2 on sale right now is objectively awful for even the most treble happy enjoyers (which I'm among) if you like treble and want a $45 planar, TRN rosefinch covers it. But we're back to no $50 segment planar all rounders

      Yes, I wasn't aware of the change until after I published my review. I don't know why KZ continues to sabotage their own products like this.

      @@PrimeAudioReviewsnot your fault at all mate! It's such a damn shame. The original version is so good. The revised version is such an unbalanced a dumpster fire of screaming undetailed treble and mids that might as well be played on a slide whistle.

This was about to be my favorite IEM ever, I heard some audio samples of the (then) decent PR2 and they sounded amazing, almost as if it was a mini Grado. Saludos.

    These are absolutely insane off a apple donge dac and tidal master.
    There is no competition near to them in price. Perfect rendition of mids and so balanced and true. You cant go wrong. I received like 5 pairs of chifi and these are the first i tried out of the package and Its been 1 hour and i cant take them off.
    Good grip on the bass. Cant wait to try them with my headphone amp.

    I bought the PR2 HBB after doing some research and I’m extremely impressed by them. My reference has always been the Letshouer S12 Pro but I’m within a millimeter (figurately) of calling the PR2 HBB my reference IEMs. Everything you said about them is true and they have only made me realize how (overly?) spacious the S12’s are. They certainly have better bass and are very airy but it barely makes them less resolute than the PR2 HBB, which are more detailed and balanced - and that’s works for me more than the “air” in the soundstage.
    They completely work for me.

  • @markpestana3850

    I've had the newer version non-mesh version for about two months now, listening to them daily for about three hours per day while I work and I have you say I really love them. Initially they were a bit treble mental, but over the first month they settled down to something closer to whats been described in this review. There are still some tracks which I think are maybe recorded with very breathy/hissy treble like Meiko Reasons to Love You, which are still quite difficult to listen to, so the treble capabilities of the pr2 do seem to make that kind of sound profile/production way more noticeable and powdery than any other iem I've got/have listened to, but for 99% of everything else I listen to they've really impressed me. I think it's worth taking the risk especially at the asking price, they need quote a run-in and the balance appears to be quite dependant on source. I've been running them via a 1000mw dac amp and a 70mw Hiby FC1 with good results. Bass is more solid with more power but certainly not lacking with the Hiby either

    I bought a KZ x HBB PR2 recently like 2 weeks ago but suddenly the left side IEM stops working after some stuttering and screeching noise and after 2 minutes it starts working again.
    I tried to check with Multimeter both continuity as well as Ohm's the reading shows normal
    Iam using desktop dac/amp EPOS (Sennheiser) GSX 300.
    But the problem only arises when listening to music, but when i play pink noise @70-80% volume the left side does not stutter or stops working it only happens when playing Music
    Any solution guys 😅

    Lovely review - I just got a set of ZX10 Pro X's after my 5 year old ZST's finally fell into multiple parts. I'm tempted to get PR2's for mixing - I'm using the Pro X's at a volume of 1-3 out of 16 bars on a MacBook Pro. I presume that means there's plenty power to drive these..?
    Also, are there any other sub $100 IEM's you'd recommend for mixing?

    I just got these without realizing all the drama. Before stumbling onto this video's comments, first impressions were not good either, so cannot say that I was swayed towards a negative reaction in any way but this sort of confirms that I'm not making things up in my my head. What I'm hearing through these is thinness and hissiness. Not in terms of actual noise but the overall feel of the sound.
    I have tried 7hz Timeless and loved them but unfortunately the earpiece itself created hot spots in my ear so uncomfortable I could wear them for more than 30 minutes, had to return them. I also have HiFiman Sundara as my daily driver, so I have an idea of what a good planar sound should be. I have KZ S10 Pro as my daily drivers for laptop so not a KZ hater. I'm also not a bass head nor do I oppose to a brighter set of headphones, so I can enjoy a sparkly treble but these have again a metallic, tinny feel to them.
    Not enjoying these at all. Will give them a day or two to see if they stabilize but not good sound so far.

Currently I gave KZ Zs10 pro and quite enjoy them but I would like to try something better as the IEM is changing rapidly for better. I mostly listen to EDM/electronic music and like bass. I thought that this KZ x HBB PR2 would be a good change for the better but as stated in the review during comparition to KZ ZS10 Pro X (assuming of course that they are similar to my current rig) this seems like not a correct direction of change. I thought of QKZ x HBB Khan, QKZ x HBB (seems too warm), KZ ZVX (from your review it seems mor suitable for EDM music compared to Salnotes Zero), TANGZU Wan’er, Kiwi Ears Cadenza, TRUTHEAR x Crinacle ZERO. The budget is arround 50 USD. Maybe someone have a suggestion what could I swich to next? Maybe someone had proviously KZ ZS10 Pro, liked the sound but found something better in 50USD price range? I would be very gratefull for any feedback.

    seems the PR2 has extremely bad variations in the treble. just looking at squig link half have good fr and half have horrendous treble.
    Theres a good chance reviewers got cherry picked units.

    • @PrimeAudioReviews
      @PrimeAudioReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pretty much all the the squiggers are reviewers lol so how does that claim make sense?

    • @artatgray
      @artatgray ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Readings beyond 10kHz are unreliable. I wouldn't concern myself with it much.

      @@PrimeAudioReviews aftersound and sharur both measured crazy stupid treble witch was much higher than the margin of error of a coupler, not even being resonant peaks. EPLV also got some interesting treble but looks more like coupler resonance, witch is usually pretty consistent - not like how it looks.
      some of that treble could actually be damaging to your hearing

      I have a newer version of the PR2 that doesn't have that black blanket over the driver. It has too much treble. I tamed it with narrow bore tips and using a balanced cable with a high power amplifier. HiFri talked about these different versions in his review.

      No. It requires too much power and the noise isolation is poor.

    • @artatgray
      @artatgray ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elijahpalmer6323 no, it doesn't. And quick glance at the graph without knowledge of the frequency spectrum of the vast majority of music is misleading. There really little that happens in music beyond 10kHz; it's harmonics up there at much lower volumes which give a sense of ambiance. They can't bomb you because they don't have enough energy to.
      Another thing, IEM frequency response measurements beyond 10kHz are inaccurate. So, the graph can be very misleading in that regard.
