Do you mean cousin rather than uncle? He is actually called the "brother" of the Lord in the Gospels. Since that would be problematic for the perpetual virginity of Mary, the Church claims that "brother" means cousin. It is very convoluted.

In contrast James "the greater" was one of the twelve disciples and was the brother of John, the author of the fourth gospel. James and John are referred to as the sons of Zebedee. This James' death at the hands of Herod is recorded in Acts 12. It's definitely easy to get confused with all the similar names!
