    Night photography is definitely better on Vivo

    To me, the Vivo, for most shots, had more detail. Zoom and 8K video went to Samsung. Night photography went back and forth, but I generally saw a bit more detail with the Vivo. Samsung seemed to produce more natural colors, whereas Vivo seemed more saturated. But this one votes down to personal taste in many shots.

      samsung's zoom is bad, in indoor and low light looks bad and if you take a pic between the optical range like 8-9x it will look like crap compared to vivo where will look good at any range and most lighting conditions

    I think there are some things Samsung does better overall - mainly video. I think the cut outs on portraits are typically cleaner on the S23 Ultra, but I think for overall versatility in taking pictures, I think Vivo still owns in that department. This is coming from an S23 Ultra user.

    Thanks for this brilliant review. I just got my Vivo as I am a pro photographer and value the advantages of a sensor which is a whopping 67% larger than on the s23U. Low light is obvious, but also the natural bokeh and ability to use ANY zoom range between native lenses and get a stellar result. This is where Samsung fails. 10x they are pretty much equal.
    Zeiss coating and V2 chips retains highlights like no other phone, and overall it just feels like you bought something very special - unlike the Samsung which looks like previous generations.

      @d4ydr33m3r ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As a pro photographer don't you value crop capabilities? Better white balance and color consistency? Video stabilization and less micro jittering? Macro shots? Yes vivo has great bokeh and generally produces brighter photos with better dynamic range but not at the point where I can justify losing the advantages of the greater all around camera setup of S23 Ultra. I can shoot with 16bit raw and edit later with S23U anyway with nice detail retrieval,S23U seems to has the ability to have nice dynamic range despite the smaller sensor

      @@d4ydr33m3r I am focused entirely on photography, not video. In this area stabilization is negligible. wb is good on both and can be adjusted if needed. macro, couldn't care less if the Samsung can get closer. Natural bokeh and cleaner images is the core of a good camera setup and this is where Vivo wins

    • @d4ydr33m3r
      @d4ydr33m3r ปีที่แล้ว

      @@winther5 sry bud but stabilization is not negligible in video, there's significantly more jittering and movement off axis in Vivo with worse color contrast. WB is also not the same on both, in Vivo it can be a hit or miss, Samsung rarely fails big in this department. Of course a bigger sensor will give you better DoF but to the expense of slightly out of focus images in many instances. I do understand that you probably like the rendering of bigger aperture lenses thus why you like Vivo a lot, but understand that this is a mobile device and so many things are heavily dependent on AI, despite the larger sensor. X90 Pro+ is a great camera setup, but I need the best possible smartphone as well and I don't even have an EU version available only the Chinese so I don't want to have to deal even with the slightest of chinese submenus.

    • @winther5
      @winther5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@d4ydr33m3r I personally don't care much about video, my comments are about the photography aspect (as I'm a photographer). I treat my Vivo like my cameras; I create a great base picture and do the tweaking myself if needed. So WB is no issue whatsoever - in fact, it's pretty spot on. Most people are not used to the DoF "issues" that can present itself with a larger sensor. I am used to this so ensure my subjects are in focus. I have not noticed any misfocusing that wasn't caught in the moment. . I will take cleaner images from a larger sensor any day over processed output from a small sensor. As for Chinese language, there is zero left on my phone after the debloat

    best comparison seen so far. Congratulations Sir. From what saw, both phones perform similar - sometimes vivo did better in night, while the zoom of samsung is unbeatable. • @flo_h_96
    @flo_h_96 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Thanks for that amazing review as always. No surprise Samsung did beat Vivo in video, as Samsung took the overall lead in that category. Vivo definitely should add a few things like stabilization for 8k and stuff like that. But Vivo is not to far ahead especially when we talk at the details and overall quality of the video. Photos at daytime are quite close although Vivo for me took the win, as there where more details most if the time and in general the photos look more natural, not only because of the higher natural background blur, but also because the photos on the S23 Ultra are oversharpened and white balance is off quite often, as well as the photos are oversaturated. At very high Zoom levels Samsung is better, but as Samsung clearly loses to Vivo in the range between 3x to 10x (which would have been nice if you would have included photos with 5x and 7 or 8x zoom), Samsung really should at least beat Vivo at 10x because of the optical zoom and it really doesn't which is a big shame. At night Vivo even beats in Samsung as the sensors Samsung uses for the telephoto and periscope are way smaller than the ones Vivo uses. At night Vivo photos without night mode look like the photos from the S23U with night mode, maybe even a bit better. And with night mode Vivo is even more ahead. At night video Samsungs superior stabilization does help a lot, S23 Ultra nearly doesn't have micro jitters at all, the X90 Pro+ does have a few. Other than that they are quite close. The big 1 inch sensor definitely does have a bit of an advantage as it captures more light. Photos snd videos from the front facing camera of the S23U are a bit better than the ones of the X90 Pro+. So overall Samsung winner in video, Vivo clear winner in photography

    By using 1" sensor in Vivo, the real bokeh at flower close-up opotos looks magical, although overall, Vivo seems to have slight auto focus problem. Vivo has slight more colour character which can be a matter of taste, while Samsung has more stable performance and reliable. If not for bokeh Samsung would take the win.
    Here in the photos. 200MP camera mode doesn't seems to add much more dramatic impact.

    Look at the low light video on the X90 Pro Plus!! It's better than a Sony RX100 camera!
    No amount of pixel binning will fix video!
    Also what's the use of pixel binning at all? If pixels are already large enough, you don't even need things like binning and night mode!!

  • @MikeJones-dh1jo
    @MikeJones-dh1jo ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Samsung better front cam.
    Zoom samsung by alittle. Surprised how good the digital zoom is on the vivo. For the s24u, they need to upgrade their optical zoom lenses. Sad that digital is almost as good as optical.
    Night goes to vivo by a good margin except video looks jittery.
    Overall samsung. More refined. But if i mostly did night shots, id pick the vivo. But that nite video jitter is bothersome.
    Samsung needs to upgrade to 1 inch sensor for the s24u or theyre gonna get left behind next year models.

    • @GrantLikesTech

    Vivo is on a league of its own when it comes to picture quality imo. Samsung does offer more features though, so there's that.
    Something I love about the Vivo is the bokeh balls on portrait mode, and it can do it even in video portrait mode, which is pretty mind-blowing imo.
    Unfortunately it oversaturates heavily on video portrait mode and it can destroy the video imo. They should offer a Zeiss portrait mode option because the Zeiss mode for pictures has beautiful natural colours.
    Great video as always!!

    Very one sided victory for the s23U. I do feel it could have been represented better especially low light auto pics the vivo had an auto night mode.
    The vivo is excellent in low light, that's the one area it wins.
    Can't wait to see what the ultradoes with more updates, it hasn't peaked.

    • @flo_h_96
      @flo_h_96 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How is this a one sided victory? Samsung is better at video there is no doubt, but Samsung has now the best camera for video on the market, Vivo not too far behind. But in photography Vivo clearly wins. Especially at night Samsung has no answer to Vivo. The only category where Samsung wins when it comes to photos, is extreme zoom. Like everything above 20x. But it's kinda amberassing that the 10x optical doesn't beat the 3.5x zoom lens at 10x times zoom. And we better don't talk at everything between 3 to 10x, because gets beaten by nearly every flagship in this area

    • @LosBlancoo
      @LosBlancoo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Florian Hochedlinger it's one sided because in the majority of categories samsung are ahead including photography. The only area I'd give to the Vivo is night photography but everywhere else it's a pretty lopsided affair.
      I don't agree that most phones are better between X3 to X10, that's a gross exaggeration
      Don't get me wrong the vivo is excellent and neck & neck in most categories but I'm surprised how well the ultra is doing against it.
