Blundering pieces and pawns is by far the number 1 reason people have lower ratings like around 1300-1500. Part of it is not calculating out lines, if you are not calculating out lines to about 5 plys, that is a problem. Also, constantly look for loose pieces of both your own and your opponent. And look for type 2 loose peices, a piece that is defended once and attack once. Finally, it helps a lot to do tactics and combinations puzzles and also look at your games afterword and see all the missed tactical opportunites on both side. Until you become a pretty good tactical player, you will never increase your rating, because it is so common to blunder and it ends the game pretty much on the spot.
Since I started watching Danya and his speedrun videos, I've gone from 1000 rating to 1550 in about a year. Just from re-watching these and learning from each match where I can improve. Daniel if you read this I hope you know how much these videos help make Chess accessible to players of all skill levels.
I don't know how is it possible that this channel does not have a million subscribers. It is the best by far. Having such a strong GM giving lessons for free is amazing.
That “putting your time to good use” is like my motto when playing chess. Since I always play 30-minute games, I almost always spend the entire game during the middlegame, just to make sure I don’t blunder. Many people doesn’t seem to realize this, as I’ve had opponents (which probably are used to blitz/bullet) who would chat me with “zzz” or “???” when I haven’t made a move for a few minutes, which to me was really weird and annoying. Like bro, why’d you even pick to play a 30-minute game if you’ll just blitz moves and expect that your opponent would do the same.
Yeah thise kind of pepole are so frustrating The irony is thst they are usually completely lost with still 28 minutes on the clock lol Also sorry for bad English
I usually don’t comment on videos but i have to say this, your videos really helped me improve so much. You’ve changed my whole way of thinking about positions and so made me so much more tactically aware, taught me when a move is good and when it isn’t, when i should be scared of pawn pushes etc. My rating shot up from 1300 rapid to 1581. And all this for free. We love you Daniel keep up the great content.
There are so many nuggets in these videos that are super useful and easy to integrate into my game. Like defending with Nbd7 and not rushing toward h6. Sometimes I think I overthink things in chess, because at my level if you develop all your pieces in a harmonious and logical way you usually just win.
3:00 There is 0-0-0 here actually because of Qe4! Escaping the skewer with a pin, and if black tries f5?! to deflect the queen we can escape the deflection with Qd5+ using the newly opened diagonal. Then after the king moves, the rook escapes too
Sí. Yo igualmente lo creo. Si no me engaño es el mejor GM en YT (excepto Hikaru que es super, pero no es tan didactico). Yo descobri este canal hace poco tiempo y veo los videos todos los dias. Saludos desde Brasil.
I don’t really play chess daily or really play at all but I still watch danya bcuz I love to support and just watch him play and explain. It’s crazy bcuz I just played about 6 games and went 4-2 around 1350 elo and I think that’s due to just watching danya. Being able to play at 1350 after not playing in almost a year shocks me. He is one of the greatest
Kudos to the first opponent tho. I think the reason he got this far is he was playing aggressive, tactical chess (sometimes dubious) but not getting punished. I'm pretty sure that person had much, much better games in the past, hopefully with higher accuracy.
Danya, I absolutely live to watch your videos. Some might think it to be a useless excuse for life but I love your personality, your intellect, your attitude, and overall your double dose speed runs. Thank you for this, I can’t wait to learn something new.
11:29 What if black plays c5? I assume it leads to a position with an isolated pawn but your Bishop is placed aggressively and simultaneously your remove your opponent's central pawn. My question is whether c5 can be played or not.
Wow I just got the exact same line as game 1 until 11.Qh4 at ~1300 rating; I don't think I would've found the knight/rook fork without this video, thank you!
I was going to complain about the QGA in the title when i saw a four knights scotch being played, but then saw the blunder and said oh ok it's the second game...but that's still not the QGA ;)
Thanks Danya I'm so proud of my chess improvement I used to be 800 just three years ago and now I'm 840. I feel confident in my tactical instincts and positional awareness . My favourite gambit is the King's gambit accepted.
