I blame content creators too for not being diligent. Yes, Bethesda should have let reviewers get access, and you could argue that it's a content creators job to get reviews and content out, but it's also their job as reviewers to be thorough, and to provide fair analysis of the product. But for many views > credibility it seems

I think the actual critiques of the expansion hold up, but we'd also be remiss not to mention the toxic state of gaming discourse now. Influencers actively go in hoping for failure so they can prove a point and get attention along the way. Game quality aside, we didn't have this type of behavior even back in 2015 or 2018.

Also, remember how Starfield was getting decent reviews at first and then within a week it was mainstream consensus that the game was worse than Fallout 76? Those were from people who got review codes and spent some time with the game, but after it was released tons of smaller channels started making day one reviews shitting on it, and the trend caught on.
IGN even gave it a 7 back then and everyone jumped to defend the game because it was a lower score than those of other mainstream publications and reviewers, but nowadays if you give Starfield a 7 you'll get harassed and called a paid Bethesda shill.

While Bethesda could/should have given some review codes to reviewers in time for them to do a proper review, I still mostly blame the reviewers themselves. They went for low quality clickbait content over high quality content. An early rushed review review might get more and faster views, but it is still garbage.
I see it this way. Who here would rather read and trust a day one review over a review made by Gopher? People WILL wait for trustworthy content.

While there are many valid criticisms of Starfield and Shattered Space, I have noticed it has kind of become popular to hate on the game and BGS for it for the sake of nitpicking. I'm not saying the game or devs shouldn't be criticized at all, but there is a lot of what I would call "nitpicking" of the game that seems unnecessary in face of the actual valid issues. For example, I saw a reviewer talk about how the "First Contact" quest was entirely ruined because the terminals used the same interface on the Constant that you see in other ships. Like yes, the game is flawed and Bethesda deserve flak for the flaws, but now it all just feels like click-bait and inauthentic dislike for the game.

I played it as soon as it went live. I did all the side quests I could find. I did as much dialogue as i could find. "I was well kitted out so combat was fast" but I got maybe 12-14 hours of it. That was doing the dialogue doing the side quests "mostly" and "nosing around" as much as possible.

Eh, a lot of reviewers just love to bash on Bethesda as well as Shattered Space. I'm not saying it's the best game out there (far from it), and i'm not saying the DLC is game-changing. People make videos for clicks, that's all. People who have preconceived notions on the DLC will post what they thought before, regardless of how good it is.

  • @Victorian_Gamer
    @Victorian_Gamer วันที่ผ่านมา +3

The problem I see is that a lot of these reviewers play with a lower leven character or are exposing themselves for just clicking through the dialogue just to reach that review time.
It has also to do with that what do you expect gets more clicks, a video saying the DLC is amazing. Or one that says it bad, outdated, etc and then most of the vid is talking negative.
People just seem to like to talk negative at this point, because it gets a wider appeal.
On my first time it took me about 20-30 hours doing all the main quest, side, achievements and clearing some of the major locations that didn't seem to have any of those and I had fun with it.
But hey, I'm just a random person here, not some major reviewer with barely time needing to push out for those clicks.
This why I rather watch people like Gopher who been playing Bethesda games for years and actually put some time into it and not just rush it out.
The game isn't a wide appeal ether and does indeed not really follow mainstream, what seems that people wanted with only able to use comparisments to X game as argument that the game is bad. If you like that X game more, then that's fine. Bethesda games aren't a wide cup of tea and their taking risks that dont seem to pull good. Well, unless you like talking negative that is. Content is content as they say.

Haven't played it. Does the main story lead you to the side-quests?
Thinking on prior DLCs, they often require you to talk to side-quest npcs and have you do some minimum number before continuing, leaving it to the player whether they want to do them all.
As far as dialogue goes, I don't listen to it all. Rarely read terminal entries, rarely deep-dive into conversation trees unless I genuinely care about the character or the location. Usually it's irrelevant or at best a joke. So can understand why reviewers might take the attitude of "I don't care that your dog ate crayons and is pooping a rainbow. Just tell me what to do".

A lot of people blaming content creators here first and foremost. I guessed there would be. But, to take the youtubers side for a moment, imagine Bethesda HAD sent out review codes. I guarantee there wouldn't be half as many reviews that said the game was only 5 hrs long. And if there was half as many reviewers saying that, there'd be half as many viewers repeating it through social media. Thats a lot of people NOT saying the game is 5 hrs long. Thats essentially Gophers point.
I often need to take shortcuts at work, just to get the work out. I bet all of you reading this have to do that too. So I dont really blame content creators who work to deadlines, like most of us have to. Making youtube videos IS work, it IS a valid means of income, and you DO have to take shortcuts sometimes if you want that bonus. When Bethesda didnt send out those review codes, it was essentially like your boss telling you "heres a bunch more work, get it done before you go". Try and look to the root of the problem rather than the issue it causes.

And there are things they could have done to make it more worthwhile to do it multiple times . Like some real rewards that you can take through unity , instead of a couple guns and Spacesuits that you just lose if you go through unity . Side quests are not important for the evaluation of the DLC. Side Quests in Shattered Space feels like filler stuff. They belong in the derailing section.
The main DLC quests is what you have to evaluate.
Shattered Space is an ok Bethesda DLC. Same style as Skyrim and Fallout 4. It's not the worst thing Bethesda has made, but the entire game still lacks depth.
Is there a character you will remember in two or even five years from now on? Andreja perhaps? What if I say Shadowheart or Liara T'soni?

*"If ur going to call other reviewers out,"* - I didn't call anybody out except Bethesda themselves. In fact I am not responding to other reviewers, but rather to commenters who are telling me that they have seen lots of reviews claiming the DLC has only 6 hours.
*"at least get your facts right, Gopher"* - Yes :)
*" No one says the all around content is max 6 hours."* - Well that's not true. A lot of people were telling me this. It's a common comment I see on my videos. A lot of people seem to have misunderstood what the reviewers were saying. When I said I played for 25 hours, some even questioned my honestly because they genuinely believed there was no more than 6 hours of content in the entire DLC.
*"They say the main quest is only 6 hours. Which definitely is not enough for a $30 DLC."* - Oh yeah, if this DLC was only one 6 hour questline, it would definitely be daylight robbery just for that. And to be honest, even with all the other content, this DLC doesn't feel like a good deal. But that's not because of the amount of content (which is about the same as their usual DLC). It's because there just doesn't seem to be anything really new here, nor anything that grabs me and renews the urge to play more Starfield. It's OK if you just want more Starfield, but otherwise I'm honestly having a hard time finding reasons to recommend it.
So me pointing out that the DLC has way more than 6 hours of content is NOT some sort of endorsement. It's just correcting a misconception many people seem to have.

Bethesda games have usually been praised for their side content, so to ignore that to fire out a review for clicks is kinda just failing to do your job.
Starfield is flawed, but reviewers & content creators need to stick to facts. Making personal opinions clear when they come up. It wasn't that long ago people were fighting against games journalists for this, but now people are happy to accept their favourite content creator doing it.

Followed by saying, if you don't actually play the content of the game you're reviewing, then you're not doing your job as a reviewer.
