  • This was one VERY busy week! We ran all of our AC and DC lines, and all of the wires for our back-up camera and WeBoost signal booster. We are completely new to electrical, but we learned a TON along the way.
    Our bus is a 1997 Thomas International Short Bus. We have some big plans for completing the build, and for traveling in it as soon as it’s ready.
    We hope you stick around for our weekly videos!

      It certainly helps when we can shove all the wires behind the ceiling and walls! 😆

    The bus is really coming together! It's always so exciting to see what you do next! Great attention to detail by binding the wires together! Looking forward to the promised shiplap!

    You guys work so well together and it's coming together quick...you'll be to shiplap before you know it :) Better to take your time to do it right, and enjoy the journey, than to rush through. You will get there, we're rooting for you :)

    Well I’ll start out by saying I’m so proud of both of you for starting this journey. My first video I watched was your at the garage for like a week or two get the bus fixed and how calm, cool and collective you handle yourself. Then I started from the beginning of your bus build and I’m on the April 23, 2021episode and I’m still impressed how you both work together so well (no drama), can’t wait to finish your bus build and keep you with life adventures and journey, wish you both lots of blessings joy and happiness, take care and be well 😎👍🏻✌🏻🤘🏻

    I enjoy watching your videos so much. I plan to buy a bus ideally the same size as yours in the near future so I'm sure I'll be re-watching them when I'm building mine. I've been living in a 7'x12' travel trailer my son helped me build for over three years now. It's cute and I love it but it's that practical and it too small. We didn't know how to do better at the time but now I've learned so much. Videos like yours help.

    Y'all are doing a great job. One suggestion if it's not too late. The scotch locks you used for "T" connections, go back and zip tie them. They will unclick in temperature changes. Used them in a trailer, they all popped open later on. Keep up the good work. Best of luck from David and Tammy in Florida.

      That is very good to know! Thank you! We'll be sure to add zip ties before we put in the ceiling 😄

    👏👏 you two are doing so awesome! Moving along so quickly!! I’m kinda dreading this electrical part because I’ve never done any wiring. I’m trying to learn how by watching many, many videos .

    When you guys were putting in the ceiling insulation, did the bolts/screws from the roof help or hurt? I could imagine them stabbing into the insulation could help hold it in place, but they might also just get in the way.

    • @JimmyandNatalie
      @JimmyandNatalie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it was a little of both, but it mostly was helpful for holding it in place

    looking for help.. trying to do a conversion.. is it possible to charge the battery bank from the alternator, and also have the inverter to charge from shoreline? What would happen if the bus was running (charging from the alternator), and you plugged in to shoreline power, triggering the inverter to charge simultaneously.. how would you set it so the alternator charging would auto shut off when plugged in? Thank you for any advice..

    • @JimmyandNatalie
      @JimmyandNatalie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Tim Prelog Hi! Yes, it is totally possible to charge from your alternator! The most common way I see people do it is through a DC-to-DC charger. It works by connecting your Bus starter batteries with your house batteries and then there is an "ignition wire" that is connected and will tell the DC-DC charger when you turn the key of the bus. That way, it is ONLY charging your house batteries when the bus is on. Due to this, it would be pretty unlikely that your bus would be on AND have the shore power plugged in at the same time. But there is nothing stopping you from doing that as long as (1) you have big enough wires to handle the high current and (2) the batteries you have can handle a large continuous charge current. For example, the maximum continuous charge current for our batteries is 50 Amps, so I would probably not want to run my shore power and DC-DC charger at the same time.
      Good luck on your build and hope this helps!

    Can you tell if the bus is a little warmer now with the insulation??

    • @JimmyandNatalie
      @JimmyandNatalie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, it might be too soon to tell for that, but it seems to run a bit quieter with the insulation!

  • @baileypofahl9306

    Hey!! Question, so I’m definitely getting a professional out to do my bus electrical but just for personal knowledge, does it matter which devices are hooked to AC wires or are there specific ones that have to be DC wired?

    • @JimmyandNatalie
      @JimmyandNatalie  ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like a great plan! In general, we try to get DC appliances whenever possible because they are more energy-efficient (and can be used without turning on the inverter). Hope this helps! 😊
