- NOTE: This video shows the best-case scenario. Pulling a primary clutch is only this easy about 25% of the time. The following detailed notes include strategies for removal of more stubborn clutches.
Short, simple, done👍 No technical BS!!
I've always wondered how easy it is to pull a primary as I've never done it myself (you see guys write how-to's all the time but never show you a video). Now I feel more confident, thanks for the vid!
M😅
Doesn't need to be any harder than that. Perfect video
Thank uses it was very helpful it took 30mins to change.
Or you can tip the sled on its side, fill the crank hole with water, wrap the bolt with teflon tape and screw it back in. The pressure will pop it off. I had a puller corkscrew and then snap off. One of my buddies told me to try the water method and it worked!
The heavy breathing is what does it for me in this video.
Be better if the camera was aimed at what he was working on, couldn't see what he doing with the puller.
We're do I find these tools I need to pull mine off my 96 cat cougar
Spark plug thread cleaner (18mm) and a 3/8" x 6" bolt cut down 1/4". Parts you can find at your local hardware store, and cheaper than the tool!
Y'all saying do this do that, yet that clutch came off 93% faster then most I've touched with the right tools... So he must be doing something right!
1:59 I wouldn't do that if I where you. I've heard it's not a good idea to put oil on a tapered surface. Anti-seize is a better option. But that's just what I was told.
Loud breathing Hol leah! Get this man a socket and rachet tool kit for christmas please.
Rude and Crude but ya got it off, I think I seen you put oil/grease on the threads of the puller. Nice most people don't 👍
What's the grease fitting behind this for
@@Lasersgoespewpew I don't think there is one. There's some rivets to attach the tub body to the frame that kind of look like grease fittings.
If only they all came off that easy
Yep. Comes right off. What it comes off of, we have no idea. But it sure did come off. LMFAO.
Is it the same process on a formula Z
Is there a sleeve in the center where the belt rides on? Mine has what looks like a shaft with splines that spins with the engine and it burns through the belts. I just put a new belt on and I smell rubber burning. I looked inside the belt and there are spline burns already that wore into the new belt.
Yeah it should be smooth everywhere that the belt can touch. The belt must be able to slip smoothly when the clutch is not engaged, so the engine can idle. What you're describing sounds wrong for sure.
I'd use some Emory cloth or some fine sand paper running with belt off and clean it up
ya my clutch is not coming off like that its stuck on there :(
Hey man what size did you use on that tire iron
Good question, I have no idea. It's the 4 way tire iron they sold at Walmart back then, probably still do.
@@SnowmobileHomeMovies dont happen to know the size tho eh?nee to buy a socket today
@@TaylorGalarneau Sorry I don't have this sled anymore I can't check.
@@SnowmobileHomeMovies its okay got mine off thanks
I need some help figuring out the puller thread size ? My 1977 cat pantera 5000 F/C is suppose to have a hex clutch i guess but has a clutch like your pulling in the video so could you tell me the thread size and if its standard or fine please ?
This could get tricky I may not have the answer. Rather than using the right puller I would use a bolt and hydraulic pressure from water to push off the clutch. If you search for the water trick you'll find how to do it. But I don't know the thread size you will have to find that or use trial and error. you may not be able to find the exact right puller to fit both the engine and the clutch, but the water trick will work as long as you have the right size bolt.
@@SnowmobileHomeMovies Ok thanks
Need help removing rear sheeve from a Yamaha clutch it's threaded.
me too, did you ever figure it out?
@@ablaylock4273 Guess he didn't. lol
grease works better, is less likely to seap out the threads
What size bolt and how long
It is a puller tool specific to the engine and clutch
Where do I get that puller tool?
My clutch isn't open like that to put a rod through...jeesh
What snowmobile is that
2000 RMK 800
im working on the other end, looking on how to hols the clutch so I can remove the magneto, would this work also?
no, there is a special puller for the mag that just presses it off, more like a conventional puller. You don't need to tap on the mag to make it release. I don't think the mag side is a tapered shaft like the clutch side is.
There is a cup the recoil starter connects with and I try to get it off but I need to stop the clutch from moving
+Jonathan Michelin oh yeah, you could stick a bar through the clutch to stop it, I think that's what I did. I had to rebuild the water pump on the same sled, it had crazy high miles. I think there is other ways but I can't remember at the moment.
I got it off, I have a 02 sx viper 700 triple, a friend said take the vacuum line off and stick a Allen key in there and rotate the clutch till the crank locks the key into thr slot, I dropped a 13 mm wrench over the clutch, come to find out it jammed it lol worked out, now come to find out my puller is a chain saw and kids skidoo only..... Its too small haha
+Jonathan Michelin yeah the correct puller is pretty expensive unfortunately.
did you break it off?
No it's supposed to pop off like that.
Whts the tool called???
Clutch puller
Wht kind of engine bore is that??
Professional
@mmmrrrmmmiiikkkeee You can get those at dennis kirk for aproximately $25. DO NOT buy that 2 piece one though. That one sucks!
Meanwhile theirs me bashing my clutch smashing it and giving all my life into taking it out only if it was that easy.
Darth Vader!
Never use a pipe like that! It could crack the spider tower
Lol k let's see your video
Not saying I disagree with you, but how about posting what should have been done on a one man job, instead of just saying it's wrong
Anyway yes the right tool is better. It also would have cost more to buy the right tool than a replacement used clutch, and shipping for the tool would have taken at least ten days. The pipe contacts two of the towers solidly, and it rests against a flexible plastic that has plenty of give. All clutch holder tools put pressure on the towers that could crack them. This job was done in an RV park driveway as a emergency fix to keep riding. In a pinch and on a budget I would do it the same way again. This channel is no longer focused on old sleds and low budget riding, but I stand by this solution given the circumstances.
Camera man could quit smoking and heal his lungs
hahahahaha ya........maybe pull the bolt out first eh lol.
Thank you for not speaking
Dont do it like this he has the danm clutch puller use an impact then smack with hammer dont put a piece of pipe in your clutch to break something he just had it of they dont pop like that I just did it on an old exciter it is a good idea if you got air use it
So is all you have to do to reinstall is retighten bolt to spec and it’s back on?
Yes. Recommended method is after that run the engine to spin the track and slam on the brakes a few times then recheck the bolt torque.
