- Lupus is a disease where the immune system becomes over-active. It is a chronic disease which affects one or many tissues of the body; skin, joints, muscles, blood vessels, blood cells, brain and nerves etc. Inflammatory and immune responses account for many of the symptoms observed in lupus.
Due to its many varied and often invisible symptoms, lupus can be very difficult to diagnose. It currently takes an average of 7 years for a patient to reach diagnosis.

I don't know. I've had ulcers in my mouth, bone pain, rashes, and other things,, my thyroid getting low and periodically failing, but I tested negative, so I'm clean! I'm happy, not to be cruel to the ones who have it. After watching your guys' videos, I don't think you'd wish it upon anyone. I do recommend Cymbalta for pain. It's an antidepressant but soothes body aches. It's improved my life a ton.

The severity of lupus varies a lot between people, with most people having symptoms that can be relatively well controlled with treatment. I am on a tremendous amount of medications and are just now starting to see the light at the end of this torturous tunnel... and it doesn't help when people don't understand what I am going through.... so I thank you for shedding light on this disease and helping to spread awareness... I watched several videos about this post covid syndrome, and commenters keep saying that this sounds a lot like Lupus, hence, why I'm here out of curiosity.

I had a hard time getting dx with lupus. I have both lupus and sjogrens. unfortunately, the last rheumatologist I saw said white women can't get lupus and sent me on my way with Prozac. He said the pos. ANA, anti-dsDNA and pos Sjogrens antibodies and past dx was meaningless. Luckily I found a doc who said this doc was a quack and they put me on prednisone, which helped considerably and are getting me appointment with a supposed good rheumatologist. Good luck.

My ANA is negative, anti ds dna, crp, protein in urine is all normal.creatinine in blood also normal.but i have anemia,platelets and WBC are normal.Hb is 10.66.but i have low grade fever,knee pain(not so much high), i take calcium for 2 months but it is not totally cured.But the pain is little bit lessen.but recently i also feel the pain on my left hand joint.i have no rashes in my body,no sunlight related problem.But when it is winter i can see red spot on my leg,in summer the red spot becomes vanished.Doctor said i have no lupus.but I'm little bit worried about that.My ESR level is 33.😢😢😢

Lupus isn't a hereditary disease but it does have a genetic component. This means that if you have lupus, members of your immediate family, or first degree relatives, are at a slightly increased risk for developing it too. According to Daniel J. Wallace M.D. in his book 'The Lupus Book', "Several surveys have estimated this risk at 10 percent for your daughter and 2 percent for your son."
Babies can develop neonatal lupus syndrome, but there is no evidence these children go on to develop lupus.
my sisters friend is borderline lupus and my mom told me to look into it due to the random pop ups of a red looking rash that gets extremely hot, and i can feel the heat flaring up without touching it and when i do touch it, its very hot and i can usually feel the heat of it through my pants (it typically occurs on my thighs). my teacher has also told me that i am sensitive to temperature change. i tend to have reoccuring heart/chest pain. i'm not sure wether or not i should get tested for lupus cause i'm afraid that i'm just blowing things out of proportion.
Have you been experiencing any other symptoms that you are concerned about? If the main symptom is a rash then I would recommend that you ask your GP to refer you to a dermatologist for further investigations.

Hello. The symptoms that you have mentioned commonly occur in lupus, but they are not exclusive to the disease and so could have other causes. Have you made an appointment with your doctor to discuss these symptoms and whether any tests need to be done?

Hi ya I went to see a Rheumatologist and told her that I was falling asleep breaking out in sweats had joint pain sore inside nostril dry eye syndrome dry mouth plus get symptoms of ibs atrial fibrillation short of breath burning face itching scalp, she said none of my symptoms would suggest lupus so what do I do I just feel awful and am sleeping my life away now got problems swallowing and eye going blurry
wallydug2256 I think you might have Lupus- I’m not a doctor or anything tho, but I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus when I was 11- I’m 15 atm. I have the same symptoms as you do, along with many other symptoms,so you might wanna visit another doctor. Try seeing an Immunologist instead.

It sounds like you have symptoms of Sjorgrens Syndrome, which is also autoimmune and closely linked to lupus. Your symptoms may be caused by that, or by lupus. Did the rheumatologist suggest what the cause of your symptoms may be? Have they done any tests? If not, it may be worth seeking a second opinion or getting a referral to a lupus specialist. It is uncommon for lupus to run in families because it is not a single-gene disease like some other hereditary conditions - it can sometimes happen though.
Lupus varies a lot in when it develops, most commonly however it first presents between the ages of 15 and 50.

I have never heard of Lupus being more common in women. Every person I know with it is male. Maybe part of it is that men have a harder time being diagnosed? I know a lot of people with it and all of them are men over 50.
Also, all the men I know with Lupus only found out because they were being tested to see if they had cancer.

It is likely that there are a higher percentage of men who have lupus but are undiagnosed and therefore it may not quite be 9 out of 10 cases that are female. Most studies do show that it is much more common in women though, which is true with many autoimmune conditions; possibly due to the prevalence of immune genes on the X chromosome.

But women have two X Chromosomes. Men are a lot more likely to have tons of diseases because they only have one. So if women have two X how is it more common when one X could be good and one bad? Normally women have to have two bad X.
Lupus is an autoimmune condition where the immune system is 'hyperactive' and starts to recognise healthy cells as invaders that should be destroyed. There is still a lot about the causes of lupus that we need to learn though because it is a very complicated immune system illness.

That video I understand it, but that’s really nothing people with lupus. That’s really nothing. The people was learning disability. It’s something it’s horrible stressful I mean people get tired people get pain no matter what you get older you get hurt your bones hurt. It’s life you get tired that’s what happens. Most people lose hair. Some people might have that for jeans and also, if you’re losing your strength, maybe you’re overworking yourself up medicine to hear that people with learning disability there’s no medicine and there’s no cure people who can’t with learning disability. They can’t hard time reading math doing some driving and getting some more jobs but really lupus and also people with rashes. I mean to me it’s really nothing I’d rather have that than on a learning disability. I really rather have lupus than my disability. I actually have that problem. I’ve been diagnosed it when I was a baby, but lupus is really nothing to me. People should take notes about people with learning disability too people out there are suffering, and there’s surprise that it’s not aware of that but people are more aware of lupus.
