  • Callaway APEX Forged Irons Review and its been in the Callaway range now for quite some time. The Apex series has a some what cult following and I myself had a set a few years ago which I had huge amounts of fun using.
    Some what Player Inspired looks with the smaller blade length but offers great forgiveness for its size and a satisfying pop at impact.

    Great review as usual Jason, thanks. I can hardly wait for the APEX Forged - 921 Forged side-by-side. Really value your comments on sound and feel.

    Looking forward to your face mapping video of the Calloway Apex and Apex DCB. That video will weigh heavily on which model I’ll spring for. Your videos are at the top of my most valuable content in determining suitability to all skill level golfers. Awesome Work! Thanks! 👍. Sacramento, CA

      Thanks very much for the kind feedback. Face mapping data is so much easier when multiple people are using the club throughout the day/week. At the moment it's only me that's hit it so isn't a fair assessment on the irons for face mapping. Once we in the UK are allowed to start Golf again I hope to be able to produce the data you require.....
      My 2 cents is that I'd go for the Forged rather than the DCB. Unless age related speed is a concern then possibly the DCB but the Forged offers nearly every bit of Forgiveness but has slightly better aesthetics.
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

    Still using my CF16's!....I just love them!

      Depending on how your spin performance has changed with your old CF16's, I would definitely test before spending a lot of money 👍

    I bought some heads only 3-AW used Apex (but look almost new) from the 2014 season, and am going to build them with True Temper XP 95 shafts (was the original stock shaft) and Winn Dri-Tec grips. I am hoping that they will play close to these that you just reviewed. The new Apex are 1/2 degree stronger loft in the 7-iron and 2* in the PW. All in, about $500 for eight irons which I fell is pretty good deal considering the great head condition.

    Hey Jay. Loving the content as always. Great test data. I’m choosing between these and 921hot metal pro. Spin rate, distance and height all seem to be about the same on a track man for me. Which would you say is more forgiving of the two models?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  ปีที่แล้ว

      Being honest not really, both sets are absolutely a solid choice. I'd personally go for the ones that are closest to your personal custom fitting specifications 👍

    Just watched your video of the pro model and it seems you like these the std apex better? I found the std apex felt better and gave much more forgiveness was it the same for yourself

    Can you compare these to hot metal pro, I feel you could use either in the top end of your bag, thanks

    I’m interested in toe strikes

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm that case, most if not all manufacturers Game Improvement irons are now more suited for toe strike missers of the ball 👍

    Thanks Jason, appreciate the excellent reviews.
    Question, Is This iron a one piece forged frame with
    a separate A.I. design face welded in or a true one piece forging? Sorry if you covered it.
    I play Cobra tour forged that's 2 or 3 years old and looks very similar.

    So, compared to the Mizzy 225, how would you rate the forgiveness? Do you feel like the Apex 21 is more forgiving?

    • @JayJay-jx3zg
      @JayJay-jx3zg 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup. Mizuno can't do forgiveness like this in a fully forged mizuno head.

    Was there a difference between the DCB and the Apex?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      DCB is louder, larger and possibly a touch more forgiving in its extremities but its marginal. Mostly the lines are a bit thicker and confidence inspiring for the higher handicap golfer 👍

    Thoughts on the '21 Apex versus the Taylor Made P770? The newer P770.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On balance personally I'd probably choose the Apex 21 👍

    • @michaelharrison1945
      @michaelharrison1945 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate your reply and enjoy your vids, very straightforward and honest. I've both sets of irons, and think I need the forgiveness of the Apex, as the 770s are a bit more demanding. I'm a decent driver of the ball and have a good short game, but struggle to hit mid-irons consistently, and use much of the clubface. The Apex will do a better job of masking as misses, which I need. Will likely sell the TMs, though I def prefer their looks to the Apex irons. Again, thanks and keep up the good work!

  • @peterkelly9655
    @peterkelly9655 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are these apex irons for the mid Hcap player? Ans the pro are for low and the DCB for higher? In broad terms anyway

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Peter, in relation to forgiveness level to handicap yes. In reality though it's much more individual. There is plenty of higher handicap golfers that hit the middle but have no concept of correct face to path against lower handicaps that have a very consistent swing yet use more of the face than what their handicap would suggest, so club choices should always be from a fitting standpoint at least around the needs of the individual player not only handicap level 👍

    I'm a little disappointed in companies freedom when it comes to using the term "forged". Unless the entire club is stamped from a single billet of material it's only partially forged. Maybe advertise "forged face" or "forged body". When you start to weld or glue parts of the clubhead together, it shouldn't be advertised as "forged". It may sound a little picky, but there is a difference.

      Agree Bob, but it's been something that the companies have done for quite some time now. 😕
