Beer makers say the FDA's new regulation on spent grain is costly and will result in more waste. Russell Haythorn explains the process from beer to cow.
The feeding of spent grain to animals has been around since humankind began brewing. The FDA is trying to destroy small family business as they try to push this through. Obviously the race is still here as are the animals. This isn't something a crafter brewery could do. They're not able to afford it AND the small family farmer raising LOCAL meat...they're not going to be able to afford to buy it and keep their grass fed or pastured animals affordable to families that seek to support local and healthy food supplies. ~Honey
So there okay with bi businesses grinding up people’s thrown away garbage and plastic to feed to farm animals, but not recycling a natural grain waist?
Instead of beating up the little guys, I'd like them to get to work on getting the pharmaceuticals out of our drinking water and changing the labeling of corn syrup to include "high potential for abuse and addiction."
Brewers spent grain should be used to cultivate industy farms as well. Manures + used coffee/tea grounds (and/or) brewers grains + urine = healthy fertilizer for crops!
Spent grain has about 10% of it nutrients left. It's empty filler that makes crap milk that has to be supplemented to meet FDA guidelines for healthy milk.
Except for all the cellulose that cows can digest with the aid of their natural gut biome. The cellulose can't be digested by typical yeast fermentation, so it's a great nutrient source for cattle that can break it down into glucose and absorb it similarly to how we absorb starches (except they have help from microbes in their guts that we don't use).
Alhajri Said i don’t no best way to get mosture out would be running it threw a seperstor we do that with our manure from cows takes the solids out and liquid goes into pit

Maybe the innovation from Singapore to turn spent barley into plant-based emulsifier can be useful. :Scientists at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) developed a plant-based emulsifier which has the necessary properties to replace egg or dairy ingredients in food staples like mayonnaise, salad dressings and whipped cream."
You must have missed the "F" in FDA regulation. This was a Federal regulation being proposed, not the state of Colorado. It would have applied to all states.
Obama let the FDA and EPA go crazy

Hi .. What % of moisture ?
70-80% with a shelflife of < 7days
Rares the grain we haul is 45%. we haul roughly about 200-250 tons a day.

It's better as compost anyway
After you through the malted barley .. which is use for animal feed .. the moisture will be high up to 60% .. can the feed get musty ?
Alhajri Said it’s high moisture we feed it to our cows not raw but blend it into a feed ration
Ryan Gemser .. Do you know any company dry it up ? I want to buy big quantity
Alhajri Said i don’t no best way to get mosture out would be running it threw a seperstor we do that with our manure from cows takes the solids out and liquid goes into pit
May i get your Email ?

Why doesn't the FDA stay out of it!!!

As usual, govt regulations putting
Its just like any alphabet agency. Fix something that isn't broke by inserting themselves and making new regulations.
the government needs to keep away from the private sector.
use it to make bokashi and encourage more people to compost. Money doesn't grow on trees but food does..
Its better for compost.
Can still sell it, just keep it off the books 😎😎 FDA and EPA make money on regulations with extra processing.
That's Colorado for ya. Stupid laws and regulations.
