    Nice job. It's refreshing seeing honest reviews. Too many are just commercials for the latest and greatest.

    I've just swapped AP2 for these, purely on an aesthetic point of view to get the forgiveness but still feel comfortable over the ball

    I have been playing the ap2s since 2012. Now I just got fitted for the ap3s. I am about a 9 handicapper, but felt that I was just a litle bit to inconsistent to get the full potential out of the ap2s. (Handicap went down from 15 to 9 with ap2)
    I am a longhitter, so it`s not distance I am after with the ap3, it`s the forgiveness. But extra distance can`t be bad, right?
    I tested the ap2 and ap3 7 iron on the course, carried the ap3s up to 10 yards further, ballflight more consistent and with less sideways spin. Carried the ap3 up to 175 yards from the fairway! But the main thing was I hit more greens with it. This round+ the fitting session made it a no-brainer for me to go with the ap3s.
    IMO you have to be a VERY consistent ballstriker to score better with the ap2s vs the ap3s. I consider myself a good ballstriker, but for me it was a reality check when I tested these two irons that I am not on the ap2-level consistently. I think a lot of players are the same.
    I don`t care about the strong lofts on ap3, just pull a clubb less and learn the yardages. No problem. What I am a bit worried about is being able to hold greens from longer distances with less spin. We will see..
    I am excited and pretty sure my handicap will go further down this year because of the change. It will be interesting to see if I am correct:)

    These clubs definitely have a place in the market. My old irons are Titleist 735CM's. I loved them but I stopped playing golf for 10 years so now that I'm playing again I need something more forgiving than my old blade/cb set. Also I didn't want anything as chunky as the AP1'S so the AP3'S were perfect for what I was looking for. So there is definitely "a place" for these on the market it just isn't aimed at the majority. The fact that Titleist catered to such a small group such as myself is why I'm a diehard fan and always will be.

    I am a high handicapper and got hold of a set of AP3's for a great price. Thinking they may be a bit above my skill level. And perhaps they are. What blew me away about them was how even bad shots come out true and mostly go straight - just not as far as a pure hit shot. They feel nice, sound awesome and have me itching to get out and play. The AP1, sounds like it would have suited my skill level, but loving the AP3's. Highly recommend.

      Richard Haller I have to say yes as I think the give more consistency in my shots than my old irons so feel I know what I’m goi g to hit with each iron. Are the as forgiving as my old irons, no but certainly more confident with them and feel I will come down in my handicap with them. I had reached my maximum with old irons as never felt I knew what I was going to hit them I’d be long or short. Hope that makes sense

    Thank you for this review my friend. I currently have a mixed set of Mizuno JPX900 irons but am slowly converting all my clubs down the Titleist route. I have been told to look at the AP1 being a high handicapper and still a new golfer...BUT I had a chance to hit some shots with a 7 iron AP3 and loved it. Wish I had the money to change over right now, but need to be patient.

    • @richardsdiaz1
      @richardsdiaz1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you are only going to get "so" much better with the AP1s. They will help you in the short run but limit your progress. The wide sole being the main culprit. The lack of feedback being the second. As amazingly long and forgiving as they are, they can also mask alot of deficiencies in your game to the point of holding you back.
      If you are serious about getting better and are going to put the time into it, they wouldn't be my first choice. IF, however, you are a casual golfer and just want to enjoy the game more, these are about as good a choice as there is in the game today!

      I just came out of a set of Titleist 981 DCI's and wanted the AP2 but got fitted for the Mizuno JPX 900 Forged. I absolutely love them. No hot spots and very forgiving. Hitting my irons a club 1/2 longer than my Titleist. Did you get fitted for your Mizuno's?

    They are a great addition to the range I think they suit a better player who is maybe starting to lose out on distance but still want that more compact look . They look great. I have been playing ap2 since the 710 pw- 3 iron and have the ap2 718 s since last October . At address the 7 iron heads are very similiar in size but as you go to the longer clubs in the ap3 range there is a lot more offset . I love my ap2 s and like playing long irons but this time I went for the AP3 in the 3 iron 2 degrees strong it’s mostly for hitting off the tee . I have c taper x stiff 130 shafts through the set so there is no problem in flighting the 3 iron down . It’s cracking club with both forgiveness and distance .Its also cheaper than the tmb and easier to hit as well 🙂

    Thanks to Titleist AP3 I have fallen in love with the game of golf again!
    I’m in my mid 40’s and I don’t see myself as a better player. I broke 90 last year but will probably not break 80.
    My swing speed is moderate and I hit the 7 iron around 130m/140y. I chose True Temper AMT Red Regular shaft because I like it’s lightness and high ball flight. Used to play TaylorMade’s game improvement irons like RSi 1 and Burner 2.0 but I learned to hate the strong lofts, heavy weights and clumpiness of a game improvement iron. With AP3 I can even launch the 4 iron from the turf without any difficulties. With TaylorMade I couldn’t even get decent shots with my 5 iron...

  • @dukeesq
    @dukeesq 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Late to comment. I love them, frankly. Love the look, especially the top line. I'm good with the feel, not clicky either. I'm one who tends to hit mid launch at best, so I would like that extra height without sacrifice of distance that for me, a blade would. I'm that in-between game improvement/players' iron player, so these clubs absolutely suit me well.

    I like the idea of these but the huge distance variations on each club is crazy .
    I had a set of Ping Zing's when they first came out years ago and they had a crazy hot spot in all the irons , you find it you carried the ball another 20 -25 years and screwed your rounds up real quick flying greens !!
    These sound like they may have a bit of a hot spot and have the same problem !

    • @JamesRobinsonGolf
      @JamesRobinsonGolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah for me I think all manufactures are taking the distance iron idea a little bit far. When does it stop? When everyone hits wedge 210?

    • @darrell3118
      @darrell3118 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      These Power Bats I can not hit as I am already a high ball hitter and have tried hitting these new irons but I punch holes in clouds and loose distance by the ball just dropping out of the sky short !
      I went back to Playing blades ( MP-64's ) and have found more consistency as I am not stuck on how far I hit the ball , I want to know when I hit the iron I have in my hand it goes that distance , not 25 yards farther if I hit that little hot spot they have developed in the iron . I have found my scores have come down a few shots per round because of consistent yardages with all my irons .

    First, I just discovered your videos, and I really enjoy them. I have subscribed. (Not sure why the best golf videos come from the UK?)
    I have to disagree with your assessment that there is no constituency for the AP3. The AP3 is nothing more than a player’s distance iron, targeted for the low mid-handicap golfers. I have always thought of the AP1 as kind of clunky, while the AP2 is not forgiving enough.
    I have tried the AP3. It flew long with great shape, but I found it to be fairly hard-faced revealing its origin as a cast iron. I much prefer the soft hit of a Callaway Apex CF16 or Srixon Z565.
    Keep up the good work!

    My handicap is 15 and my game is improving big-time,I loved the feel of the AP2...I would see that in a combo (for me) with 7-PW AP2 and 6-5 AP3. What do you think ??

    The main reason i was keen to watch this was because I assumed the MOST obvious comparison was against the T-MB's! Especially since you recently reviewed those very clubs?? L face insert, hollow construction, tungsten weights. Is it just me? or are these two incredibly similar products? I know the lofts are different, but, surely if you take one of each with the closest lofts to each other, they would perform quite similar? Also why (WHY WHY WHY) are the T-MB's so much more expensive than these?

    • @JamesRobinsonGolf
      @JamesRobinsonGolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cracking point. I think the technology that’s gone into the t-mbs is to keep them looking fairly small and like a players iron. As for the price I’m really not sure? Maybe R&D ran over time 😂😂😂

    The main issue I have found with the ap3, and the reason I have stuck with ap2 is the how they game is real life situations. I took a demo out with me to our short course to practice against my current ap2 and the usual 8 iron bump and run chip shot off the apron with an ap3 was a "hot trampoline" type shot that was entirely unplayable by any standard. The ap3 works with full shots, and in a fitting/range environment seem to make sense. But when you try and work them their strengths become huge weaknesses. For the fractional forgiveness gains, and screwy lofts these irons are utterly useless in a full set. I would entertain the idea of a 4 and 3 iron in the bag... just for the distance, but honestly that little runner I like to hit, and shots like a punch cut out of trouble, around trees etc is just not obtainable with this iron.
    stick with players irons unless you want to hit straight full shots only.

    Lets admit you are hitting a 6 iron and not a 7 iron compared to the AP3 or CB. However once you get over this you will still hit the AP3 longer and more consistent is same loft as other clubs - at least I do.

    I think you are missing the point of this club. let me tell you my story:
    I am over the age of 35, I have kids, and can't get out as much as i'd like to because my kids come first, as they should. I played in High School, and College. I always played better player irons, mostly blades, in fact. Now though, I don't have time to play or practice as much as I'd like. I still know how to play the game properly, but I miss the center of the face more often than I used to and therefore could use a little more forgivness. The lack of practice also means that most of the time I don't attempt many of the full range of shots that I "know" how to hit. I've simplified (dumbed down) my game to allow for the current stage of life that I'm in. My current 10.7 handicap reflects the state of my game. I'm just as likely to shoot an 84 as a 74 when I play.
    I tried the 716-AP1s for a while and hated them. That was too big a change from my Titleist 731PMs, which I had gamed for a long time, after finally putting away my beloved Mizuno MP-32s.
    In my view, I am the perfect candidate for the AP3. I hate game improvement clubs. I won't play a club that looks huge, feels terrible, and man-handles me. I don't play well enough most of the time to justify a true players iron, however. The AP3s have enough workability forgivenss and accuracy for me. They also feel a lot better than an AP1, even though I agree they don't feel as good as a well struck forged iron.
    Maybe once my kids get older and I can play more again I'll move up to some true players irons again. I love the AP2s For now though, I'm thrilled with the AP3s. I'm a lot happier on the golf course right now and my handicap is slowly trending down.
    :0)

      I really like your channel! You have a very entertaining and informative style that I enjoy! On this particular review I was a little surprised by your conclusion. I was particularly surprised because I know you game Titleist equipment! That's what prompted my response.
      I really do feel there is a place for these clubs. No golfer I've ever met, who has ever been a scratch or better golfer, wants to play "Game Improvement" Clubs regardless of their situation, physical condition, or age. The reasons I always hear are off--set, turf interaction, draw bias, and swing weight. The AP3s and P790s tick a lot of boxes for the better player who is looking for a little help with a better player feel and look.
      I can still get the ball out there a bit. I carry my AP3 7 iron about 170 yds at sea level. These AP3s are 2 degrees stronger than my old Titleist 731PMs, which were my first concession to lessened playing time. They are 3-4 degrees stronger than my old Mizuno MP-32s, however, depending on the club. I mostly play a draw now on full shots and a VERY gentle fade on almost everything else outside of 50 yds. The high spinning fade on full shots isn't really a part of my game anymore.
      I hope this helps you see my perspective of where this club's place in the market is! I could well be wrong, but from what I'm hearing the P790s and AP3s are selling really well.
      Thanks and keep those videos coming!
