18 years after Shenmue 2 and people finally got their hand on Shenmue 3. I don't have a problem with not changing the design of the characters since I can at least convince myself that it was for aesthetic purposes, but plot-wise, it just feels like nothing was propelled between this game and Shenmue 2. I think the creator said that they intended for this series to be 7 chapters long, but since creating each of these games is rather difficult due to it being funded by Kickstarter and/or Patreon money, they should change their plan so that it can end properly on a high note rather than go on too long and die incomplete. Also can we please get a recapitation of the Yakuza series and Judgement?

Shenmue 4 would be great. Shenmue 3 definitely had it's moments (although I never completed the game because I sort of lost interest, and I kind of regret that now since I've sold my PS4 and my copy of Shenmue 3) I did get through most of the game though, but I think Yu Suzuki really needs to save this series with a 4th game that improves the game and is more of an open world game! I didn't like how you were restricted to certain areas early in the game and you couldn't explore more of the area around you! That was one of the main issues with the game in my opinion.

Sorta like how people say Yakuza (Another game series) used Shenmue as a foundation, but did none of it's missteps in meandering. Was a huge success by comparison. So by this game being a time capsule ... of design that people were not exactly thrilled with over 20 years ago... It makes sense why it was destined to fail even without the Epic exclusivity on PC. Like, I was really interested into getting into these... but the mundane shit is such a huge turn off. But, I will give them props for the authentic aesthetics and sticking to their vision... even if it means it is destined to failure as a result.

I was finally able to find some time to play and beat the second game not too long ago then after buying the third on the day it came out, got to beat it about a week and a half ago. I heard a ton of backlash about it, but, other than dialogue getting repetitive, I found no such reason to be upset at all about the third. I appreciated every bit of it. We didn't HAVE to have a third one. But we were given the opportunity and I am thankful for it. This series was, and is, so much fun. Ok I am going to watch this video now =)

When I looked into the previous games, purely for research purposes, I was impressed by the raw scale of the game's designs, but ultimately nonplussed by the terrible voice acting and how *short* these games really are when you look past all the fluff. Even Shemmue III was a very short RECAPitation, which makes me think it follows the same design philosophy. If it weren't for Shenmue 3, it was THIS game that originally held the record for the highest funding for a game on Kickstarter. Then the overhype and press for that stole ALL of Bloodstained's thunder. I say this as someone who followed the news, couldn't contribute to either at the time, and was always more interested Igarashi than Suzuki. In hindsight, I apologize to all that went with the hype and anticipation for this, because following the development history and the rollout, I had this skepticism about what was to be made; Super Bunnyhop did a lot of good coverage and video essays on this as well as plenty other TH-camrs. Keep up the good work!
Getting so tired of some people saying 'Shenmue 3 had no story.' Look on it's wikipedia page and that might change your mind. I agree the story was too light and it should have been a longer game but Shenmue 3 was impressive for a kickstarter game. It seems to always gets criticized.
Unfortunately wasn’t worth the wait and not because gameplay wise it didn’t compare to the first two because that’s understandable it’s a fund raised game. The story was underwhelming and almost a smack in the face. We were run in circles to be given another what will happen next ending. That alone would be annoying but ok if there was any real story progression in this 3rd entry but there wasn’t. Just cheap callbacks and weak attempts at fan service.
Shenmue 3: You're a noob-punk and we'll make you feel like one because even if you won the boss fight, cutscene says YOU LOSE GRASSHOPPER! And dontchu dare think ull beat the final boss! lol
the body check is such a crappy move compared to the double blow, the iron palm, the tornado kick and the counter elbow assault. like its such a let doen thats the master move of the game to use against a enemy for a cinematic.

Play Shenmue 1 & Shenmue 2 on the Sega Dreamcast. The games are meant to be played on the Sega Dreamcast. The PS4 ports just weren't quite the same.
