Thanks Paul. Allways loved Nottingham back in the early days. Pity they removed Central and the tunnels. Cheer up mate. Not a wasted trip. Rest up and keep on exercising mate.
Oddly, I had my first ride on the Robin Hood Line on 12th June. Started at Nottingham, had a break at Kirkby-In-Ashfield (where I was born), and then got a later train to Worksop. Sadly, I could not ride back as a broken down train had blocked the line and a rail replacemnet bus brought me back. Noticed the burned out shelters, what a mess and how sad. My trains were clean however and actually the air conditioned Class 170's are quite a nice ride.
I do like those 170s. A lot better than the 150s on the worksop Sheffield service I seem to always get. That broken down train caused a bit of mayhem from what I hear.
That's Langwith for you 🤣........Loved the video, though. Kinda makes me want to reside on a canal boat. The canal is lined with so much untouched buildings and structures.
@WobblyRunner that's the beauty of a canal boat. You can constantly be on the move. Especially now there are more and more canal routes being restored and reopened. I would love to know if there were any canal routes around hodthorpe or whitwell though. I mean the path that goes alongside of the tracks is called 'towpath'.
Intriguing. I wasn't aware of any Canals around here. Certainly never heard of any mention or on old maps. There was the old turnpike roads though wasn't there. Could it a name going back to horse drawn coaches?
Echoing others' comments about how good it is to see you about again. Sorry to hear of your pickpocketing experience - not something you want when it's your first journey there. The two 170s you travelled on have been around the block a bit. Your first from Creswell to Nottingham started off in Scotland, but went to Southern at Selhurst back in the 2010s. It's now with EMR to standardise on 158s and 170s for Regional operations. Similarly, your unit back started with Anglia Railways (Greater Anglia as it is now) but went to Transport for Wales at Cardiff for a couple of years before transferring to EMR this year.
Hi Greg It always annoys me to see 170s on Worksop trains and 2 car 158s with knackered aircon on Nottingham Norwich trains and often full and standing
Got the line to Mansfield today, on the ends of my long walk. Unplanned I came across the disused Clipstone Colliery lines, had to pull myself up to have an explore. I will have to have a look if you have made a video of them.
Nice little trip out Paul, glad to see you out and about. Was there still a derailed tram at Bulwell? When I went down there last week saw derailed tram just left at Bulwell Strange not all stop at Whitwell. When I was driving on there 2002-05 I think everything stopped there
Ah there was a tram parked at Bulwell. I didn't notice though. I assumed it was just parked due to the engineering works. They stopped the hourly stop at Whitwell over covid I believe and left if due to reliability issues, so I read.
@@WobblyRunner the service seems poor in there now. I think the half hour Mansfield Woodhouse service doesn't run anymore and that's why I got down the Newstead bit with a freight last week . Signalman who has been on years said its the first time he's ever known freight go that way When did you go down there Paul that tram must have been there a while
Newstead is an area I've not yet got around to covering yet. I ended up having to move seats so put the camera away for a short while. Hopefully get out to look some of the old disused lines around Newstead in the none too distant future.
That was a great idea for a video, cutting in footage from previous visits as you pass by. Modern trains are just sterile, (though clearly not in a clean way), they have no character, just function, barely. I've personally never liked Nottingham, your experience just reinforced my opinion (just an opinion, don't take offence). I had to get a train to Derby the other weeknight, at the height of the recent heatwave.... oh dear, the number of delays and cancellations due to trains breaking down or line issues, there's no wonder we love our cars so much, but that's another story 😢
I still enjoy going on a train journey, but yes. I've been let down a few times and vowed to never rely on them again. Used trains overseas in a few countries and it's so embarrassing to see if ran so well elsewhere.
Really really enjoyed that until you said travel vlogs weren’t for you. More please … I thought it was different and ace! Less beardy blokes next time tho ;-)

Would loved to have experienced the GCR. The way it threads right though the heart of the city centre....
Nice weather for the tour today, Paul.thanks for the video and trip. See you on the next!😊
Cheers Martin 👍 see you on the next one
You did fine! Good use of your time incapacitated!
Was great to actually go somewhere 😊

I know what you mean 😄. It does look idilic.
Im sure the novelty will wear off after a while though, for me. I'd want to be on the move constantly.

Cheers Greg. Good info on the units. I don't mind the 170s. Better than some of those on Northern.

Nice one Ben.
I've only done the far end at Clipstone. I know the lines you're talking about though 👍

This was on Monday just gone.
@@WobblyRunner that's bizarre if that tram is still there
Aaaawww ... you didn't show Newstead. There's loads of dissused track in that area including the Great Central.
