- This song is a celebration of the Fagan family Christmases of the 1970-somethings - give or take - and about always holding on to the true spirit of Christmas, no matter your age.
Song on Christmas Eve (Daniel Fagan. 2024)
I found this old photograph
Of you and me on Santa’s lap
Kind of melancholy, looking back
On the way things used to be
We were eight and twelve years old
Maybe younger I don’t know
But I remember trying not to let him go
And it was easy to believe
When dreams and wishes still came true
And Santa Claus always came through
Although somehow, we never knew
What we’d find beneath that tree
Even when it wasn’t always what we wanted
We got everything we’d need
And a song on Christmas Eve
We’d do our best to try to sleep
But you’d tug on my pajama sleeve
We’d look out the window and I could see
And hear sleigh bells in the night
Cause, you’d point and say that’s Santa there
Reindeer like stars flying through the air
With the folks still singing, up downstairs
And everything felt right
When dreams and wishes still came true
And Santa Claus always came through
Although somehow, we never knew
What we’d find beneath that tree
Even when it wasn’t always what we wanted
We got everything we’d need
And a song on Christmas Eve
And a song on Christmas Eve
John, he got a new guitar
And Tommy got some drums
Wild Billy got him a motorbike
And Danny got a Red Ryder BB gun
Patty got her Navy man
They got married pretty young…
When dreams and wishes still came true
And mom and dad always came through
Although somehow, we never knew
What we’d find beneath that tree
Even when it wasn’t always what we wanted
No, it wasn’t always everything we wanted
But it was everything we’d need
And a song on Christmas Eve
And a song on Christmas Eve
Merry Christmas to you and your family! Beautiful song.
