Yep Franco's alright. He was seriously injured of course as a result of this, and as I understand it, Wayne Gardner (the rider who clobbered him) is still a bit uneasy about the incident. But luckily Franco recovered and ironically enough was, and as far as I'm aware is still a safety officer for the FIM (MotoGP).
Sì riposa in pace.
I was at that race...Dutch tv showed the accident in slow mo....as Uncini tried to get to the edge of the track, Gardner's front tire hit Uncini square on the side of his helmet spinning him around. Uncini was in a coma for something like 9 weeks. Gardner was never the same after that. When he saw him laying there he thought he killed him..........
I remember this well. Gardner was living in England racing in BSBK I think, and he got a guest ride in the Dutch TT. 1984? Gardner sure thought he had killed the former world champ.
#58 was Simoncelli, in Italy (for personal experience) but i think even in all over in the world, this video was related to SIC in the days of his death for the similarity, and obviously for the nationality of riders, but was explained clearly that was not fatal, Franco Uncini still alive. I suppose that by the date of his comment.
why is everybody talking about 58 bla simoncelli.. this has nothing to do with simoncelli... this is about uncini. If you want to respect sic, do it on sic clips.
He is. That crash knocked him comatose for several days, though. He missed the remainder of the 1983 season, and although he returned in 1984 he ended up retiring for good at the end of the year. Franco Uncini is still involved in the Moto GP series, he is the safety manager at Dorna Sports, which owns and runs Moto GP.
ALFREDO 70 che cazzo dici guarda che Uncini è vivo, ha anche commentato l'incidente di Simoncelli purtroppo. Ragà un bella grattata per Franco Uncini vivo e vegeto !!!

Thank goodness he's ok that looked terrible got up then all of a sudden the other motorcycle cobbles
I wouldn't say it's ironic that he's a safety instructor. He probably has a lot to offer.
I can remember this watching live on dutch tv
Hardly Wayne Gardner's fault, there's nothing he or anyone else could've done to avoid that.
+kdlofty
Garner could indeed not go to the right site of Franco
Franco Uncini was reigning world champion at the time
Not only he recovered, he even managed to race some other 17 GPs.
he's probably the only man that can say he headbutted a speeding superbike and lived to tell about it.
Madness trough the locationnnn!!!!
NO ONE STOPS TO SEE IF HES OK!!!
OH YEAHHHH....i forgot about that
becous everyone will crash in to them ok

Damn, reminds me of the Simoncelli crash. Fortunately Uncini survived, but we lost Marco. =(
TheToekutter ---" NIGHTRIDER!" didja ever get Cundalini's hand back?
wow, you can tell that was a violent hit when you see Uncini's helmet being whacked clear off his head :o
I remember this well. Gardner was living in England racing in BSBK I think, and he got a guest ride in the Dutch TT. 1984?

Franco Uncini is still alive, he is the chief medical officer of dorna
