this is how i got into the fish hobby. as a 9 YO i got a microscope kit for xmas, and spent all my time looking at protozoans. i was obsessed. there were infinite different kinds. the kit came with a guide, and i learned all the basic types. the next step was the 10 gal tank. i saved up $13 from birthdays and xmas, got my father to drive me up to montgomery wards, and bought the whole starter kit. it has literally lasted my whole life now. i wish i still had that first metaframe tank with the slate bottom. i still enjoy my microscopes, i have low power stereo scope, and a high power binocular. algae is fun to watch too.

The world seems to get a lot bigger when we notice all these micro-organisms

I had a metal frame slate bottom 5 gallon tank when I was a kid. I also had a microscope too. Now it is 60 years later and I have 5 tanks but no microscope 🤔 Maybe I should look into getting one?😊

I love the idea of using my shrimp tank to culture live foods.

To feed your infusoria? Yep but I think the powder may be more cost effective

Is it me or at minute 6:47 the spirulina (blue/green algae aka cyanobacterium) jumped out of the stir into the container with the sponges that will go back to the tank filter?😅

I have been hatching rainbows accidentally in a scud tank. I put plants in there from a few of my tanks and I see fry swimming around days after they have passed their critical stage. So there is definitely enough of something in that tank to get them over the hump! When they get bigger, I noticed that the scuds seem to have all been eaten, but when I move the fry, I found out that the remainder scuds had learned to hide! Anyway, I intend to try to get some cultures going and some baby brine. My question is can you gut load the brine shrimp without messing up the water? Thanks.

It is going to smell. So you got that part right. You may have added too much spirulina powder from thr start. I would dump half out and refill with tank water and then just wait for it to clear up and you'll see tiny little infusoria
