only in your own mind. i ride a 22 wing dct and a '12 HD touring ...both are great bikes so long as you take care of what you own. on the HD side, when the break down, it's usually because the owner beats on it regularly and or they add engine or drive train mods that don't go far enough.
Got a call from my dealership before I got the letter. Parts are on ordered just waiting for it to come in. Still happy with my GW. Glad honda is willing to keep up and fix their errors.
Bolt or not, the GW is the best Touring machine on this planet............period. I will never switch to HD, after owning this one!!! I will be the last rider to get the bolt done. So far, she is amazing and I am not shy to get her into Sport Mode for miles at the time. All good by me.
Received both recalls. Fuel pump done several months ago. Bike in the shop now for the transmission bolt replacement. Dealer asked to replace air filter while working on transmission bolt recall. They agreed for one hour of labor. I did not wait for letter and was given an appointment which was provided and is being done today. My dealer has completed 10 bikes as of today. I did not want the risk of a broken bolt destroying the motor. Yes there are issues with all thing but believing the brand warning, I chose to do the mandatory recalls.
Chris, I was able to get out on my previous generation Goldwing yesterday here in the Chattanooga area, had to dodge some icy spots in the shaded areas but it felt so nice to be out. I appreciate your thoughts on the subject of recalls and agree with you about the air filter replacement requirements…ridiculous. Stay safe and thanks for your vlogs.
Hi Chris, I read somewhere and I regret that I don’t remember where that the issue with the bolts is with the year models 2018 through 2021. It is present in my memory because I remember feeling relieved after reading that that was the case because I have a 2023 . If you can verify what I am saying, please update on a future log …I know that you have more contacts and resources to check into that. I do agree with you that even with the recalls, I trust the Goldwing product to be more reliable than anything else out there.… Jumper.
Chris Harley Davidson road glide limited rider here. I love the goldwing but i love the ease of maintenance of my HD. Bike has been in the shop once for new tires. Other than the three hole oil 14:38 change, air filter is three bolts and cleaned ever 5k. 36 k miles on my 21 glide no issues at all.😊
I received my recall letter today for my 2018 DCT. I had the fuel pump replace this past summer. I will be contacting the dealer once it warms up as it is in the low teens here in the ATL
I haven’t received the recall yet for my 2018. I did have the fuel pump done. I made sure my dealership had the parts and was ready to do the installation before I brought it in. This way I was not inconvenienced for any length of time.
Chris! Man I never noticed that Memphis slang the way y’all pronounce some words, the rapper Glorilla who is a Memphis native pointed that out,,,by the way she has an uncanny resemblance to you my brother just some food for thought. Be safe out there and I’m loving my 15 Goldwing even more.
I switched to a Harley Road Glide. Got sick and tired of this sterile plastic ride. Don't get me wrong, the wing has been a great reliable ride, but it has no soul. Always felt like I was just getting in the car to go somewhere.. The Road Glide is so much more fun to ride. Smooth, yet you still feel that rumble under your ass. Feels like it's actually alive... I really wish HD made a stripped down version of this bike, with none of the electronic sht, except cruise control. With a half million miles under my belt and getting older, I really want to get back to basics and enjoy the "ride" instead of dealing with all this crap added to bikes nowadays... I appreciate your channel. It just showed up on my feed today. Best of luck to you, cheers!
That is why they make all types of bikes for all riders. You will never see me in an HD dealer. maybe to buy gloves. No value for me. The GW got me so spoiled and I love it.
Good morning, Chris. I'm in Georgia and have a 2021 Trike. If I have the recall done, I will have to come to Tennessee to the Honda Power Sports because I haven't found a dealer in Georgia that I trust to perform that type of recall. KEEP RIDING 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Just got my recall notification Friday. Set appointment with my local dealer two weeks ago. They had to order the bolt. There were six bikes already set up. Waiting on the part to come in.
It seems as though ever since covid... No matter what the consumer purchases... It's garbage... Obviously manufacturers we're getting parts from anyone and anywhere just to be able to get their product out to the consumer... Just sayin'...🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣 Good stuff thanks for posting... A Happy and Healthy New Year to You and Yours...🙏🙏
I have a 2018 GW Tour, manual transmission and I have my recall scheduled for next week (January 30, 2025). The dealer actually contacted ME about the bolt recall. I had the fuel pump recall earlier in 2024. My GW isn’t my daily rider. I have a BMW R1200RT for my daily rider. I only ride my GW on long trips out of town. I won’t get rid of my GW. I’m 56 and I’ve wanted a GW since I was 16 years old and at age 52 I finally got it. I love MOST things about my GW (excluding the “small” trunk which Honda made bigger beginning in 2022(?). Anyway, I love this bike in general.
I have the same bike as you Chris, 21 same color DCT. I have never had my bike into the dealership or any shop. I do all my own work. Everything per the Honda service manual. I really don't trust anyone to work on anything these days. Most, not all, but most service techs these days aren't worth what they charge. Also having aftermarket addons like you and I they are not going to know your bike like you. I want access to the recall documentation and the parts needed. I will even pay for them and do the work myself. I just finished doing a top to bottom restoration of an 85 that rides like it just rolled off the dealer floor. There is nothing on these bikes short of Honda proprietary diagnostics software I can't do.
I had a 2016 KTM 1290SA that had a bad air filter placement requiring removal of the gas tank. So many riders complained that now it is readily accessible on new bikes. Hopefully Honda will solve the Goldwing air filter issue. Another problem regarding the primary drive bolt is that Honda put out a no sale notice to dealers of affected bikes. I'm guessing that Indian and Harley etc. would not want recall Goldwings for trade-in.
I've had 2 recalls on my 21 Goldwing. One was a reflash of the bike and the 2nd was the fuel pump, which I checked myself and it was a good one so it took me awhile to bring in to have it taken off the list. I just went to the Honda site and it shows no recalls for my VIN so I hope my bolts fine.
I did not have a problem on the recall, took it in. I was second in line and it was ready to pick up on day three Dealer revise. The biggest thing was just waiting on the parts. They had to have the bike to order the parts.
I think that may be BS, One dealer told me that on my Fuel pump replacement so I went to another dealer and he had me come it after he had the part in hand.
Got my letter for my 2021 Wing Roadsmith Trike a couple days ago. I'm just hoping they don't give me any problems because of the conversion. Going to wait a bit until they do a few so they hopefully know what they are doing. 300,000 miles on 3 other wings I'm staying with my wing.
Just received my recall letter on my 2019 dct. I’m just South of Chicago in University Park. Snow just about gone but, below zero temps coming this weekend… don’t know when I’ll get it in?
I purchased my 2018 Goldwing used in November after the recall was announced. Im not too concerned about it. Got it for 14K with only 2000 miles on it. I was looking to get a good end of season deal and used the recall to negotiate. Once I mentioned it and they verified it, they dropped the price significantly to get it off the lot. They werent aware of it at the time being a non Honda dealer.
I have a 2020 DCT Goldwing yes I got the recall letter the only thing the Honda dealership is terrible I took my Gold Wing the get his first oil change on Tuesday ain't got it back Saturday call about the recall they said they have no mechanic they can do the work I probably will have to go 250 MI to Dallas-Fort Worth that's my only complaint
It is possible to look up Honda Goldwing recall notices for your particular bike by entering your VIN #.Luckily there are no recall notices for my 2024 Goldwing DCT.
I actually looked at buying a new Harley before settling on a new ‘Wing to replace my ‘05 Wing. Glad I didn’t buy the Harley. It would’ve been tough paying so much more money for a less reliable and technologically inferior motorcycle. Sure the new ‘Wing may have some teething problems but overall you will still have a motorcycle with a couple or three hundred thousand miles of good riding.
I think both brands, really all brands have ups and downs. I am a lover of all motorcycles but prefer a Harley for my riding style. I have put thousands of miles covering states at a time and I feel confident riding cross country on my Harley. As you can see per this video all brands have issues. I wouldn't call this Honda issue a teething problem this is a Major failure. So before we bash other brands just enjoy the brand you chose. #mythoughts
i just got mine on the 17th went to the dealer ship there ordering the parts and will call when it come in then ill drop it off the the mechanic said it will take him 6hrs i was lucky with the fuel pump mine wasn't one of there numbers listed my wing is a 2021 manual I love this bike this is my third wing my last one was a 2002 and i put 200000 miles on it

@ Yes there is David. I think what most people will say is. Finding good Tech’s is not always easy. Like automobiles. There are competent Techs and incompetent ones. Dealerships are not all the same. Such is life. Peace my friend.
I have a 2021 goldwing also and a bit concerned about the bolt recall. No I have no intention of jumping ship to another brand. I’m more concerned about having a kid who’s only interest is dirt bikes and four wheelers tearing into my wing. I’m seriously considering about trading for a new 2025 just waiting for Honda to come out with information and colors. Can’t beat the dct.
Here's the issue and or question about the recall. I understand just riding and taking the gamble. None of us want to not be riding. But, if you have received the recall notice, and continue with the "I'll take my chances" attitude, then the bolt sheers off and destroys your engine, will Honda try to deny a repair claim? I don't want to take the chance of, "Hey, we sent you the notice, and you ignored it. Sorry, that's on you." Just food for thought.
I don’t want to have that worrying me while I’m riding so if my letter comes while it’s still cold in Chicago I’m just gonna take it in. Do you have to wait till the letter comes in to take it to the dealer?

Hey Chris, how bout this. The 2025 goldwings have not come out yet because Honda is replacing that engine bolt on those engines that were made before they found out how serious the problem was. Just a thought.😂

Agree on the air filter it's the Goldwing's biggest weakness. Previous gen getting the FI error was/is a disgrace as well.

It means it the recall hasn’t been performed on your bike and still needs to be.
