  • Here's how to re-attach a broken leg socket that rusted off. I picked up stainless steel hardware from Ace and used a regular drill and bits to drill the holes. The project took me about an hour because the drill bits were terrible.

Your video was very helpful! Went to my local Ace Hardware and now have fixed the leg on my 1996 Weber 22 inch grill! Thanks for your help!

Try a center punch and center drill so your twist steel drill will not dance. When using a center drill use a drop of oil just drill deep enough to make a good divit.

Good video and repair. They build a great kettle, but the sockets and legs are flimsy.

This is awesome but one thing I dont understand, why wouldnt you put the washers on the outside where those rusted holes are to further reenforce the broken leg socket? I would have put them right on top of the holes, then the leg socket on top of them then the screws and same for the other side then tighten it down. Either way thank you for the video.

      good question!
I didn't use washers on the outside because I wanted to retain as much as the visible yellow porcelain as possible

Thanks for the video. I am attempting to restore my first kettle. Quick question, is the bolt a 10-24 or 1/4-20?

The only thing I would do different is put a little rust inhibitor on there.
Rust Mort is what I use.

Nice save. I watched your vid and tried it . It worked, but the grill was a rusty piece of shit. Threw it to the metal scavengers.

My question is once this has been done it has to devalue the grill also I wouldn't think that it would ever be that sturdy again? I have done this two maybe three grills now and I am afraid to burn in them. I am looking at a particular grilled that I just realized this was done you can tell there has never been a fire in it since. Has anybody Had a grill that you cook multiple times after doing this what are your thoughts? Also what is this guy's name in the Weber kettle Club? Is he still around? I'd like to see a video anything of anything new.

I don't know why "devalue" is a consideration. A grill that won't stand is less valuable than one that will.
And yes I'm still around, I own the website. New videos coming soon =D

Hi my problem is the legs keep falling off. Any tips?

I usually use masking tape, but it's not a great solution. Adhesive aluminum ducting tape might work well! Others have reshaped their legs from the inside using broom handles or other similarly diameter dowels.
