Game Review & Impressions

With a title that hardly rolls off the tongue, Trio the Punch - Never Forget Me is nothing if not true to its namesake. There are many things you can say about this total oddity of an arcade game, but you're unlikely to forget it any time soon.
Players must choose from one of three characters before the game commences, each possessing individual strengths, weaknesses, attack moves and special equipment. There are opportunities to swap characters later on, and since the entire game is as far from a typical beat 'em up as you can expect, it really doesn't matter which one you choose.
Once selected, you're dropped into the game proper. Each stage involves defeating a bunch of smaller enemies which appear, collecting the hearts they drop, then defeating the stage boss -- or bosses -- when they appear. The core game loop is really a succession of these small vignettes, with different platform layouts and varying combinations of enemies.
Between each level, players participate in a roulette-style minigame. Prizes include restoring health, upgrading primary or secondary attacks, or the opportunity to change their character entirely. I guess this was added to keep cycling various variables to spice up the gameplay and keep things fresh.
If you've watched more than 5 minutes of this and decided the game is somewhat insane, you'd be right. It made absolutely no sense to me, I wondered whether it faired any better in its native territory, but it appears to have been something of a dud in Japan as well; Game Machine listed Trio the Punch as being the 24th most successful tabletop arcade machine in the May 1990 edition of the magazine, which isn't saying much. Karnov and Chelnov -- heroes from other Data East coin-ops -- make guest appearances in various guises, but it's innate wackiness is just too over the top, and it's not particularly entertaining as an actual video game.

Yup, this is DEFFINETELY made by the Japanese. The world’s most COMEDIC arcade game of all time, brother.
Possibly, though Pu-Li-Ru-La would definitely be a contender, too. (^w^)
Win win! 😹
Such a strange game but a classic. Hope you have a good Christmas 😊
I wasn't ready for that. I'm going to take a nap and process what I experienced. When I wake up I'll be making a shirt with the lottery screen on it.
Never even knew about this. What a treat.
The weirdest game ever while Edward Randy is the most ambitious Data East game
Never forget that cracy game.
Thanks for the oddball longplay of this game Al and have a good Christmas too.
Trio the punch is a game I play when I need comic relief 😅
The Arcade game looks cool 😺👍🕹️.
Merry retrospective christmas 🎁🎄🎅

Karnov
Everything about this game looks like it’s Running on a SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive. I love it.
My reaction on the final stage :
👁👄👁
You figured it out
Pure insanity.
Karnovity
Man. Thats some.good weed i just had!
Lucky! Cha cha cha!
What did I just watch?! 😄
Bad Dudes + Japanese Humor = Trio Punch
Karnv plus karnov equals to karnov square
@@moescredriver5486Why do you keep saying Karnov to everyone?
This feels like a game on drugs with Kamakura (the ninja), Santos (the baseball cap wearing dude) and Rose Sub (the sword wielding dude). This is totally a widget game all on its own! And the Weeble boss with the Red Light Green Light sequence. Super weird! This game is a lube-free mind screw. Pretty nice anyway.
17:22 Quite the opposite. The whole point of Weebles as a literal toy is to wobble but never fall down + ratio.
19:43 HOLY SHIT, IT’S A MANEKI NEKO THAT JUST TURNED INTO A KAIJU!!!!!!!!!!!
I never saw this one in the States, cool find!
15:29 “Bird Brain” is Colonel Sanders 😂
The karnovs are karnovs
This is exotic 😊
Cursed by the Pink Sheep.
There must have been some REALLY heavy drinking involved with the creation of this game.
Most of this stuff is beyond reason, but I CAN explain the infamous Weebls thing. The stage is based around the Japanese children's game "Daruma-san ga koronda" (sp?) , which is basically just Red Light, Green Light. The Daruma doll is that red thing bouncing around, and the game freezing is the end of a little song they sing, basically like calling "red light." Evidently someone looked for the closest translation they could find, and the best they came up with was the little song about the Weebls toy.
What kind of crazy game is this?
Karnov
What... what did I just saw?!
JOEL!
DID YOU ORDER KFC AGAIN!??
They should re-release games like this. 😂
"That" continue screen....
Sounds like genesis music
What a funny game. Ob
❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎅🏻
For a game with Punch in the name, this guy's punches lack any sort of "Punch".
El que jugó Dross
How weird
The karnov cult you mean????
WTF?
Data East: one of the worst popular videogames companies 👍🏼
Their titles certainly do run the gamut between good & bad, don't they. (^_^)
