I think the couch one isn't only nice to make it look better but it also makes sure that you don't sit on years of gross stuff others left there (like with the mattress as well). Not sure if the couch really gets cleaned every time before a new student moves in 😅
The bed risers with outlets aren’t allowed in most colleges or universities. So if you want anything like that check your school’s list of allowed/ not allowed dorm essentials

The wall organizer is probably good either way, though you can spray paint it a different color if you want. Rugs don’t hurt. A blanket certainly doesn’t hurt. Decorate your walls as you see fit. Making space is key though.

The canopy headboard is actually the most original college diy I've seen on TH-cam. Most of the time it's pretty much the same 4 diys. Same goes with the level and memento board. I really like that there's no pushpins ruining it.
Don't get it all at once and it won't be that expensive. Buy one thing every check from work and then take it when you move. That's what I'm doing for my apartment. So far I've spent over $100 but it's been in $20-$30 incriminates. Makes life easier than doing it all at one time.

Here's some tips for you from another broke person: use what you have (if you don't like it, try to repurpose or restyle it before you give up on it), go to swatch parties, go check your local thrift stores, keep your eyes and ears open for stuff others want to throw out (where I live, there often are boxes with old stuff like glasses, books, clothes, pans, pots and a lot of other stuff on the street by people who want to get rid of it but don't want to throw it in the trash, you just have to keep en eye out for those) and use websites like ebay where sometimes people just want to get rid of big items (they offer stuff for free if you come pick it up, I've acquired a wooden sideboard and a beautiful, huge mirror like that). I find that this way rooms have a lot more personality than with regular stuff bought at stores. 😊

I would be happy to help with the most important tip for your dorm room. Do not bring everything to decorate your dorm room because by the end of senior year you will be moving books and your clothes in garbage bags. I sincerely wish someone had told me just how much I over-packed freshman year and how obnoxious a room full of photos and posters and reminders of high school looked.
Chyna Page I agree because I’m an RA this year! I’ve only been doing this almost 2 months and it’s so exhausting. When I was training, I texted my RA from my freshman year and basically sent her a paragraph about how much I appreciate her haha

Beautiful! But the chair really got on my nerves. Would a pretty pillow case fit over the top? That way you could just put a matching sheet on the chair and tie it to the top of the leg with ribbon or use a cushion cover idk. I think it would upscale it a bit in my opinion. Otherwise looved the room!
This was SO helpful! I've been looking for places to live (in London, which can be REALLY expensive), but I was hating pretty much every single room I found. The horrible color sofas are everywere!!! Your idea of covering it with a simple blanket was genious. Thank you for that :D

This is the only way to do it. No amount of planning can account for not knowing your room's dimensions (my university's website was way off) or what your roommates are bringing- like a dozen supernatural posters, or a huge floor lamp, or 100+ bags of chips.
In college I had to share a room with one or two others. More than once there were three people in one room. We each got a little space and a little bit of the closet and the drawers were in our bed. There was no room for a couch or even a desk. We sat on our beds and studied.
This was well done! I would have thumbtacked fabric onto the chair instead of covering up with a throw... other than that, the colours worked well with the wood!
Target pick up is easy for customers and I’m so glad it is! Such a great resource especially through COVID!! . . . But I still felt a part of me die when you talked it up to other people 😭 it’s boomed so busy now we can’t keep up and corporate refuses to employ more staff for it unfortunately. -A target guest service (for most also pickup/drive up) employee (paid like a cashier too)
The thing with hanging a curtain rod using command hooks doesn’t work it’ll stay up for a day max but they get to heavy and it will just fall down constantly

After you put the blanket or cover on the sofa, tuck a wooden dowel deep in the sofa between the back and the seat. It help the blanket stay in place.

Try pins (like those for a pinboard), if you put enough and the fairy lights aren't heavy, they will hold up
