Two mice? you should really look into that synergy app...
I think they even were sponsored by Synergy at one point :D
if you're only using Windows PC's they should use mouse without borders which is free and from Microsoft themselves
They might have a PC for non-stream stuff and another for stuff to go on-stream
Or mouse without borders, free. Made by Microsoft. :)
Yeah

Voncrumb thank you my good sir
Voncrumb This is kinda useless as you can just scroll on mobile but thanks for going to the effort of using ctrl-c and ctrl-v.
Voncrumb thanks dude
XHAD but I can almost always get within 5 seconds of where I want to be on a moderately sized phone while in portrait mode.
Stop thanking this guy, he literally just copy and pasted this video description, he didnt watch through the whole video and give timestamps, he just copy and pasted the description.
Linus, if you have 2 computers 2 mice, why not just use Synergy? you run their ads all the time...
Ashar Rahman Synergy has a free version that's older but still works
He also has a kickass KVM switch but I can understand the two mice, two keyboard thing. I used Synergy for a long time myself, then a home brew KVM but nothing beats the undeniable reliability of just having a second set of tools to operate multiple computers in concert. Wonder if he does the mouse in each hand thing.

fair enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
friendly hint... TH-cam community hates this... there are Reddit threads that are designed for you! seriously i use it on my actual TH-cam channel

Can you discuss this in next week's show please?
Google's move is really smart. They're trying to target annoying ads and malicious ads so regular users don't have to install uBlock Origin just to prevent malicious ads. uBlock blocks all ads including Adsense ads which loses Google money. Google ad block won't block Adsense ads therefore making money.
Bobby Joe 90 When first AdBlocker came and google didn't react by preventing them from blocking, I knew they had a plan for this too and it's all gonna come back around biting Adblock users in the ass while making them more money.
Bobby Joe 90 I wouldn't be surprised if their next move is to buy out the competitors (AdBlocke Plus) or just straight up eliminating the competition.
That's what I was thinking and wanted to say after reading the title.
And I still going to and rather prefer using third party ad-blockers.
People, Google is not stupid to shoot themselves in the foot.
Anti ad-blockers is getting smart too. Thanks God for the Elements Hiding tool with the add-on.
As suspected "we're going to block all ads except those that use our system". You just tried to put a positive spin on it.
I use adblocker on this older laptop with a celeron b810 1.6ghz because the extra ads makes some web sites unloadable or well a sluggish mess. My desktop with a 5820k i could care less and I have disabled it, but i wont on this laptop.
Why don't you use synergy?
There should be a way to donate on twitch by willingly watching an ad :P
InquizitorPhil You can earn bits?
here you have to buy every bits...
InquizitorPhil Can I watch the ads and get the bits and collect them and cash out??? even if it's like 20 hours worth of ad watching to get $1 ?
Well, you apparently can't do that on Linus` channel
Shadowmaker1001 the ads on twitch profit the stream you're watching, it's just a small amount
InquizitorPhil Wait how do you do that, is it something you can do on mobile because I've never seen it.
Video ads that autoplay with sound: TH-cam video ads.
Skillz 2nd channel really? wow
There is absolutely nothing wrong with "sex".
The rest are vulgar and inappropriate, yes.
Yeah Bulgarian girls are so much hotter than the USA hags, that the american bitchez be ashamed of sex, Yo my nigga!
Nayrisian, kids under 13 are not allowed to be on TH-cam. And every kid above 13 should know what is sex.
Also "sex" means "gender" too, right? Like if you are a male or a female...
Just like "gay" means "happy".
TH-cam doesn't count
you have to open a video first to have it autoplay ads with sound
you are not opening a page that then autoplays a video with sound
I use adlock and I'm really not proud of it. Part of the reason why I have to use it on TH-cam is because my download speed is so slow that when trying to load ads I constantly have to buffer them over and over again. It makes a 30 second ad into a 3 minute one and it kills my experience. The same goes for skippable ads. If it plays, it'll play just fine until the 4 second mark where it needs to buffer once again for a while.
a baby dies every time you block an ad, very bad stuff
Hartley Harms me too, my country Internet is so bad that even autoplay video ads and any 5 second skip video ads become unbearable. sometimes I feel bad for the TH-camr and any web that I should put adblock on it but I have no other choice.
I don't watch video at all if it uses interruption ads, how many babies die and how much bad stuff happens because I don't watch a video? At least I am watching if I can watch without the "interrupting" ads. I do not feel bad for using an ad-blocker. I "cut the cable" because of "Interruption Marketing" and I don't feel bad about not watching anything on cable either, there are better ways of marketing than constant interruptions.
Thanks for the hour! I listen/watch the Wan Show while at work. Makes time go by fast! And thank god both of you are on the show... Sorry but this show is WAY better when both of you are on it.
This is almost as good as the OFFICIAL PODCAST
RubberDonky yes
Not enough bored burgers. That's where they're going wrong.
It's always interesting seeing these guys discuss ad blockers in the past versus now.
The reason I use an add blocker is because of the big green download button adds that pop up when you are trying to download something and it is sometimes very hard to tell which one is the real one
For the last couple of weeks thanks for putting the date of the show back on the thumbnails.
Does the google chrome ad blocker block those damned pornhub ads?
Jared Fiori YOUR IPHONE 7 HAS 432 VIRUSES
But I'm on android.... :(
those ads that dont go away are fucking cancer, i have had some that i have to end up turning my pc off
get ublock origin. only adblocker that blocks those system locking popups.
My only issue with adblock on my phone is sometimes i cant fast forward videos like it wont buffer correctly
The problem with obnoxious ads, if you have too many on a website. It becomes noise, and any advertiser will tell you noise is bad.
I personally try to keep my online usernames the same as much as possible so my username becomes my reputation online. I hold myself accountable for my actions and I don't want companies breathing down my neck constantly policing my actions that is censoring.
@adblock segment: I didn't use an adblock for years, and didn't find ads generally intrusive enough to require one. About two years ago, ads went from just unobtrusive patches on the screen to obnoxious videos that blared at max volume. Once I was annoyed enough to install an adblocker, I blocked everything.
I watched a full 1 minute+ ad, you're welcome.
Why, it's 2017. you shouldn't see any ads on the net now.
I don't in almost every place. I have their channel white listed though.
Daaaaym Linus... I really like what you guys have done with the new place... Havent watched the WAN Show in a long time
There is a HUGE problem with TH-cam Red
NOT available in most countries
So if chome/google is only focused on ads that, cover the context (overlay) and do not go away in a few seconds, auto play video or sound.. Will they be changing the ad types on youtube?
Luke all like *let me whisper this directly into the microphone*
I do not run an ad blocker, If the ads are too intrusive, I leave the site, its as simple as that. I have seen some news sites where the actual content is only visible in the middle 25% of the screen, large header and ads at the top, ads on the left, ads on the right, and ads at the bottom, then as you scroll the tiny window of legitimate content, there are ads in the content that stop you from scrolling until you scroll the add off the top of the page (it says like "keep scrolling to dismiss"). I promptly leave said sites.

Google, the leader of adsense, making an ad blocker. Ironic?
Andrew Hunt Not really think about it if people prefer chrome now without extern adblocker Google can prevent people Form blocking ADS in Google sites
Apart from that, there would actually be the possibility of doing an adblocker which allows you to pay a monthly fee in exchange of no ads. If it isn't too expensive, I'd actually do that.
or it could ad block all none google supported ads.
I only have adblocker cause of the shit they explained in the video, but I can't be arsed to manually adjust so it blocks everything
+Hoch134 you would pay google to block your ads? you are a part of the problem
I honestly like watching smaller streamers and watch them grow. Most are so humble.
Ad blocker to chrome? Google's playing some hardcore 4D chess.
Opera has it but it allowed Google ads
Hey is there an option to open up a lightweight version of the forum?
I am on vacation using crappy hotel internet and I cant seem to load the login page for the forums...
I'm contemplating subscribing to float plane club at the moment but know as soon as you make an app for IOS and android i will subscribe instantly. just wanted to give you an idea of some of your audience is thinking.
also an idea if you guys wanted to make a float plane club exclusive video series, it would be really cool if you guys made a weekly behind the scenes series similar to the moving Vlog series. in my opinion TH-cam viewers wouldn't be missing out on much of your content and would bring more viewers to float plane club myself included
Im genuinely curious why anyone is willing to pay for simple early access. Don't take this in an insulting way, I'm really curious. I don't mind supporting a creator if they offer something like exclusive content (for example) in return, but early access no way.
In many ways I agree with you and don't understand about paying for early access but I enjoy this group and they have the potential to do a lot more so i want to help while it still being convenient to me. Also what i said about if there is a behind the scenes lie video on float plane then yea bonus exclusive content.
Savage Jerky add spot worked so well on me, got the website open trying to find the flavours they are eating.
800 hours? those are rookie numbers
Actually yeah, I know a lot of sub-1000 hour players that aren't good.
ImainSupport the minute he said that I started scrolling through the comments looking for this one
The bantz is back!!
You guys are awesome, especially together ♥
I like it when you do the show with Luke and Linus
Rybolt's Realm I like those best too :)
Really love your videos guys. It's really nice to stay up to 2am (I'm in Norway) to listen to two dudes talking aboot tech and life just before my body knocks itself unconscious because of lack of sleep. Lol
Good luck. I've coded an entire video site from scratch by myself. (Video encoding, thumbnail generation, keywords, categories, search system, user access control, ad management and so on). The problem was cost of delivery, not the programming. When you get a $30,000 bill for bandwidth and normal ads only produce a $300-$400 income for those views, you see the overall issue. You have to produce ads the way TH-cam had, (3 per 5-6 minute video) and very premium ads, not bottom barrel ads.
That's not me being a satirical. I really hope you do well, but after my experience, unless I've got fortune 500 cash, I'm not touching video stuff with a thousand foot pole.
Nowadays with ideas, generally I find if you have to defend it, and nobody gets it but you, then it's not a good idea.
well said.
lmotaku I don't get it, isn't what you mean a float plane club? If it is, they said that's will be a paid platform. That's all._.
Yeah, I tried that, and the same problem occurs when you try to do competitive pricing to say Vimeo or Dropbox type sites.
lmotaku any recent website host (OVH, iWeb, GoDaddy etc) all have unlimited bandwidth
You don't seem to understand the difference between server bandwidth, network bandwidth, ISP bandwidth, and content delivery bandwidth. I'm not talking about willynilly setting up a $200-$300 server at OVH, which will stop servicing you if you run a semi-big service for abusing TOS/AUP for using too much. I'm talking fail overs, 14 hops from north america to Japan. redundancy and fail over caches. What you need to do to be a real video provider.
When you start pumping over 22 Gbps from a website and double digit TB bandwidth numbers, then tell me about your unlimited OVH servers and how great they are... not.
The lack of easy ways to make money from Twitch is one reason why I have yet to stream there... TH-cam allows it from almost day one, Twitch seems a little harsh in their rules... I follow a few people who have been streaming for 2 years, 3 times a week, have several thousand followers, and have been turned down three times for Partnership.
Linus, your argument against anonymity is pretty terrible, especially considering you're Canadian and should know full well what happens when the government shits on free speech. Dealing with a few trolls is a thousand times better than the alternative.
oBLACKIECHANoo it's anonymity in gaming realistically and only on the private side
Not that I agree with not having anonymity on the internet, but how exactly is that interfering with your free speech?
+sparkplug1018 Well in Canada there is a social justice tribunal, it's as bad as it sounds, and if somebody loses their anonymity online then saying something some regressive marxist doesn't like could land you in legal trouble. Another good example is Count Dankula, the scottish guy who made his pug nazi salute as a joke, uploaded a video of it, and is now on bail for hate crimes.
+oBLACKIECHANoo That is something I'd have never expected a country like Canada to have honestly.
+oBLACKIECHANoo
While your name suggests you're an idiot, your statement is very lucid. And I agree with it completely. Linus is the exception rather than the rule, and this concept seems to have escaped him. He's not perfect. The privacy and digital security of the individual and general public is more important than ad revenue, end of story, full stop.
I've been a subscriber of your channel for years and I've watched a TON of your videos... but this was the first WAN show I've watched all the way through. I just wanted to say that I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to since I don't usually listen to podcasts or talk-show style content. Also, and the reason for this post: I blame you for buying $50 worth of jerky I will probably eat in one sitting and regret tremendously later! I decided I needed it to live and would have ordered more but a couple of them were out of stock :(
Google ad blocker will make porn a better experience
try adblock plus
adblock plus doesn't block the popups on many pornsites, you need ublock origin.
Google just want money from you , to let you put adds on your page
Switched to UBO a long time ago, never looked back. A modding website I use has about TWENTY-SIX ads on it, and if I used ABP, made a timer on mod downloads for over a minute. UBO doesn't register the same way ABP does, so no timer, no ads ;)
(idk why I told you this, maybe others will read it and switch.)
Gus Nombre Gaming You are giving me valuable data that convinces me to do so. Just needs more gathered information on my end to make a conclusion.
Fun fact, a year ago when Apple was planning their data center in Denmark, they said they wouldn't pay the danish taxes, this was the biggest news story in Denmark for a few weeks... That says a lot about how peaceful Denmark is.
Luke... Cool something with heat = a refrigerator !
One of the only Livestreams I watch.
Don't host a show if you intend to spend 90% of the time with food in your mouth.
it was THE SPONSOR OF THE SHOW. deal with it.
Showing it off and eating some would have been fine. Linus was smacking his lips and making noises for the entire rest of the show, and even talking with food in his mouth.
The savage jerky ad spot is legitimately enjoyable to watch lol
Lol. It is not crappy ads that make me run an adblocker. It is all ads. I don't want to see them period. They are the easiest malware injectors ever.
Brian Heuer would you rather pay money directly to content creators to help them make money or watch an ad that if you use a good AV you wouldn't get infected
I would rather have ads like those that appear in a newspaper. Static, not intrusive, easily ignored and uninteresting.
Pay them. No anti virus in the world can get all viruses at once. Even avast!
Avast is fucking garbage. It doesn't stop anything. I use multiple antivirus programs that boot from a Windows PE disc to scan for malware in the event of an infection, however rare that is.
Which do you use? Be nice cause then I can pirate stuff without getting nervous :D
Ive used AVG and Kaspersky 2 years ago when I was paranoid that I thought I had a trojan.
AVG was shit in my opinion. All slow and sluggish.
Do the WAN Show has a bass based Background Noise at 50:00 ? Is that a Problem with the Mike?
For me a website is guilty of anoying ads until proven innocent. If I use a website often, i'll try out turning off adblok.
If they have an autoplay sound or a popup, I will go out of my way to make shre i will never ever see an ad on this website again
I will even try to help others with blocking their ads too (helping improve filter lists e.g.) For me to disable adblock all together,
Googles try in fixin ads for us needs to be working really good.
Until then I will simply have my apporx. 10 sites that have adblock disabled
and adblock with its extra filter lists and "Disable HTML5 Autoplay" will stay on my PC an adblock on my phone.
6:48 Linus's face sums up my attitude to twitch perfectly :D
Mother please stop hitting me
PuppyUnicorn you should let her, pain is a good kink.
PuppyUnicorn sue her lel
pain is weak skittles leaving the body. shhh just let it happen.
If you try to use fire with a PC for cooling can you please use the heat from the fire to power a sterling engine as well? That way you could regain some of the lost energy in the system in a really interesting mechanical way.
I don't have a problem with a food ad, but it would be appreciated if when you do your not eating for the entire rest stream. I personally found the chewing noise really off putting, and distracting. Still enjoyed the show overall though.
Mav agreed. Disliked for the smacking noises the entire time. Can't stand that shit.
LMG is now venturing on ASMR
The chewing makes the rest of the video better for me.
at :20:15: i am the guy who has adblockers PRECISELY because of auto-playing and GIF's. if its there [an ad] and is unobtrusive that's fine. BUT, i'll go to extreme methods to rid myself of nasty ads. if i browse a news story and a website won't show the rest of a story because of adblocking,? guess what? they are NOT the only source! i get some enjoyment seeing the "quiet" ads showing my search history in the form of "targeted" ads.
One day i went to the Apple store and i farted everybody was mad because they didnt have Windows
OK, that was good.
And now thats something original, i have only seen about 1000 people using the same joke. Original.
wow... you just teleported us back to 2012
But does flashing the 580 bios make my 480 overclock better?
I have a XFX RX 480 (core edition, 1288 MHz) and it overclocks to 1380 on stock voltage and according to buildzoid it has a ridiculously overkill VRM design plus the same PCB as the XFX 580 GTR-S, so I could flash the 580 bios, but is it gonna yield any benefits?
I hate the sound of him eating during the show :(
40:04 Luke giving Linus the look of death and being like, "Linus, ya done yet?"
pls no eating on streamrino
I run Firefox with full Adblock. I only open it when a chrome page is too annoying to deal with. As of today, the Adblocker said it has blocked 9/12 domains. 1, google, 2, cloudflair, 3, website in question, 4+ all pop up ads.
30 second club
yeah boy
I don't think you should be proud of that.
YEAH BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
If you want to be so early, watch them live.
could you please let me know what microphone you are using ? i can hear your heating system cycling on and off every 5-10 minutes.
So fast, nobody will notice I'm gay!
Bini Inibitor we already have
Bini Inibitor screenshoted
Shit
I noticed
Let's get married ♥
You too bb, I'm down for a 3 way
My biggest issue with ads is ones where they have auto playing videos, ones that take over the page or browser and they're the main reason for running ad block.
EATING ON STREAM? WHY????
Deon Spates because he can lol
Because of ASMR
Savage Jerky was a sponsor for this WAN ahow, and I just ordered 3 bags to try.
Hey, linus. I thought of the same idea. It could make it back up to supreme court
I have to stop watching when Linus starts eating (or anyone on the show). Kinda wish they were able to go an hour without eating.
it was a sponsor, deal with it
But he ate pretty much all the way through. I get it, he might have a sponsor. Eating constantly from half way is over the top though.
Love your long form videos, I never miss a WAN show. Do you guys have longer videos up in your club, like unedited ones? Also is chromecast supported for your club videos? I consume all your TH-cam content on my Vizio P series TV which uses chromecast.
How to loose all your subs and go bankrupt? Host a tech show while eating jerky!!!
the innuendos and double talk at the start... priceless...😂
Ads are cancer, they pay for stuff sure, but I block them on ALL my devices, so as long as the majority of people sees them, me skipping them would make no difference.
Fuck Ads!!
"me skipping them would make no difference"
40% of the people use adblockers. that is millions of dollars every day content creators wont get
A single drop of water can do no harm, although that won't exactly help you when you are drowning. Ad blockers do harm. I've been part of a somewhat popular website, and we got 35-40% ad block rate, back in 2012. Since we got paid per view (not per click), that translates directly in 35-40% of revenue being lost. 2 people worked on it full time, but there was only enough money to pay one. That 35% would've made a massive difference. After trying to make things work for years, we ended up abandoning the project because it simply was not worth the effort.
Of course there were more issues. But adblock was one of them. It does very much make a difference.
Makes no difference? Why do you think TH-cam is in bed with the RIAA and MPAA? Its because they need to earn that money someplace. And if its not coming from advertisers they will get it from somewhere else. Hence the BS copyright claims and things along those lines.
The idea behind that Google Adblocker came from Brave Browser; they want to build an adblock that will find other providers, block them, and replace the content with their own supply. Their reasoning is it is safer, and more reliable ads. LOL.. I expect it to work really well, then block all their ads too. XD although, if all the ads are soundless, and have no animation, then I'm fine and may let it go. :)
uBlock master race
Thanks for explaining Floatplane Club better! I'm pretty curious to how it will turn out, and I'll definitely check it out once the platform is finished. I hope you guys can pull it off but I'm pretty sure it ain't going to be easy...
Im earlyi
Is there a reason the audio in the intro goes up half way through? The first time I heard it I was like "Oh they forgot to turn it all the way up" and every time since it's just bothered me and made me wonder: it's time I ask and hopefully get some closure!
Stop EATING! This is super annoying!
I refused to use adblock in the first few years where it was popular, despite my friends encouraging me to do so. I started doing it when a certain clover colored site stopped policing the content and type of ads that would appear on their pages. I was also spurred on by many unauthorized streaming sites having so many ads it would lag the browser (despite the fact that I was on a computer intended for gaming.) I was like, "well, if it's illegal anyway I don't feel bad for denying them ad revenue." But then I got addicted to it and used it everywhere. In fact, I use multiple so that if one doesn't kill an ad the other one does.
First bitch
Justin Smith DESTINY BROTHER 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Justin Smith Admitting it is the first step.
Opera also has a built in ad blocker. I believe it's disabled by default, but notifies you that it exists. I think it's a bit more traditional compared to what Google is rumored to be going for, but still. Opera also has built in VPN support as well... I quite love Opera.
You should check out the Sony MDR100ABN & MDR1000X for noise canceling headphones. Let us know how they compare to the Bose and Sennheiser.
I run adguard on chrome, but I completely disable it for any site I want to support (I.E. youtube). The reason I do this is because you load up some sites and they blast shitty music at me on a video half way down the page that I can't fucking find. If there we no auto-roll sound enabled ads, and no ads that cover an entire page that I was just reading, I would not run a blocker.
Hint to advertisers: Popups make me actively hate your brand. Don't do it.
what happened to the concept where u said that the outro would be the intro backward ???? @linustechtips @luke
You latest WAN show was never posted to TH-cam.. Don't know if that's intentional.. but I just thought I would throw that out there in case it was an accident lol.
I really like the idea of Floatplane Club. It is an easy way to support your favorite content creators. Wish you guys the best of luck with development, only wish I had the skills to help develop it.
So as someone with an idea that would create a community hub for all creators of all types to encourage more creation collaboration. How did you deal with finding developers and paying them to create a site from the ground up? Or how would you suggest learning all of it yourself?
It's not just my system. Tested/experienced this on four different audio setups. There is a constant hum (low frequency) on playback of the WAN Show. This is not present on your other videos. It's as if you have a gain setting set too high. It goes from extreme to 100% not present. This is experienced on mid to high-fi 5.1 and 7.2 audio setups. Just letting you know.
Here's a problem with google blocking ads from other profiders:
If they block other providers, everyone would switch to google ads, essentially making the revenue *even lower*
What is with s0.2mdn.net’s server DNS address could not be found. its keeps coming up on all LTT videos not any others
On the whole adblock thing, I for instance disable adblock on TH-cam and other websites that don't push intrusive ads. But I always have it toggled on for new websites.
when are you going to make the outro animation where you guys push the couch out?
You reminded me of bricking my 6870 Vapor-X when I tried to flash the Toxic BIOS in it. I ended up buying a 7790 (just in case I failed more miserably) to get a display and flash the damn thing back through DOS. Ughhhh.....
Oh, Luke, are you done with the project Sinkship already?
Will the videos on floatplane stay there forever?
So I thought of subscribing to Vessel before it died but by the time I wanted to it died. Floatplane also is something I have been thinking of trying and seeing that it's only $30 a year it is very compelling. Just a question would be, so when more content creators join Floatplane club would the consumer have to pay a separate subscription fee to also see their content early as well?
This is fine until Valve offers a paid lookup service to get playtime statistics on a given number. Imagine a potential employer paying to look up your phone number.
I use addblock. I dont like having to add block and I try to make up for it by paying for subscriptions i.e. youtube red, crunchyroll, amazon prime. I also have younger children that use my computer sometimes and I cant have them clicking on dumb adds.
Which should I pair with a 1600x for 1080p gaming and cad, a 470 4gb or 480 8gb? Is the 480 worth the extra cost? And yes, I'll be waiting for vega
There are other reasons to use an alt account apart from "Let's crush some noobs".
DISCLAIMER I'm fully in favor of Prime MM and this new move by Valve
The most legitimate one is playing with friends that are worse than you. If you are a Global Elite and your friends hover around DMG/LE, you COULD play with them on your main account but it would not be enjoyable for anyone in your team. Because of the weighted average they would face very difficult opponents. So if my girlfriend wants to play the game she sees me play, with me, do I tell her "sorry sweetie smurfing is not allowed go play until you're global"? No. That would not be reasonable. (Also Casual gamemodes just do not count, most people would agree)
The second reason to smurf, and this is my favorite one, is that I like playing the game with friends when we all handicap ourselves, usually through a combination of getting drunk and attempting to win through ridiculous strategies and rules. (Stratroulette)
Just wanted to point out that smurfing is done in multiple ways.
(Also, if you look up the origin of "smurfing", those Starcraft players were forced to create new accounts because no one would play with them otherwise)
