I like the fact that this is the league, yet it feels like a regular friendly match. I have seen some leagues where people are super sweaty and frowning all the time :P
With the latest heat wave here in southern CA USA, I'm super sweaty and frowning al the time anyway :D

Great game. I am really enjoying the new league, it's competitive but also fun to watch as it is all about making the army you picked work (with the reasonable limitations of not owning an infinite amount of every single model for that army).
The big question is, we have already had the title belt's reveal, but when will we have the grand reveal of "The bard spoon"?? 😉

A quick correction. During the match, you took mortal wounds as a result of a melee attack and the model died. Bard incorrectly told you that you could not reanimate mortal wounds. That's 8th edition and older. You can reanimate ANY wounds suffered as a result of a shooting or melee attack in their respective phases. The only things you cannot roll reanimation against are wounds suffered in the movement, psychic, and charge phases. As per the ninth edition reanimation changes.
I know, and I would have done so, but they were all dead anyways 🤷♂️
@@thepastrychef8014 My comment was more in regards to making sure everyone knew it, including Bard. I've run into a couple players who still play Reanimations the old way out of habit.
Oh poor James betrayed again by the dice, some of these elite armies you just don't get enough rolls to be allowed to roll that poorly from time to time.

Love the content but can I make one suggestion specifically about Necrons. Would it be possible to state the standing command protocol as well as the per round protocols either in the list or at the start of each turns intro screen? Or just be sure it’s said at the start of the Necrons turn. For example turn 2 starts at about 44 minutes. I’m typing this halfway through the movement phase and I still don’t have any idea what protocols are active.

Around 23 mins in the destroyers shooting on the Paladins. 1 less 4+ armour save was rolled (13 instead of 14) and 1 less D3 damage was rolled (5 instead of 6) that could have been a wiped out unit instead of 1 living
34:40 Ven Dread is not part of the Blades of Victory Brotherhood, they're Honored Knights like Paladins, so he couldn't have cast the reroll charge psychic power.
I forget about this myself every time, I regularly use that power on my Paladins XD.

great game! Just a side note, the gem of inoktu only grants +2 to cast for Dominus powers, which the Purifying flame isn't. Didn't make a difference so yeah :)

I think the game really came down to how necrons had long ranged units which were literally disintegrating full squads of paladins, termis, and dreadnoughts all game, and they weren't contested. There is no way you cannot plan around that, I mean you literally have to even try and consider an outright suicidal engagement to take that out or the game is practically decided, on accounts of considerable losses like as took place in the game. the problem is that there were no units which could take them out earlier because he had no dread knights to support an interceptor rush in the earlier stages of the game to try to rush those squads. So It seems that a better list beat out a lesser list, otherwise the plans for both sides were carried out very well. I think draigo and the librarian needed to focus down those long- ranged snipers instead of being in those peripheral objective controlling engagements, freeing up more time to have more wounds on the field from mitigating the ranged output the necrons were dishing out. A good game all around though.
Bloomin eck. I was going to get Dark Angels for my next army, now i want Grey Knights again (Without a nemesis dreadknight - they don't look right).
Or maybe get a dreadknight and squash him down, chop his legs off at the knees, use his feet as frontal armour, and turn him into a venerable dreadnought.
An option could be to add in 1 or 2 canoptek tomb sentinel at 110 points each. They deep strike and have 1 deny the witch each. Shooting exile cannon 18” D6 s10 ap4 dam3 blast so good anti tank and heavy infantry, fighting they are ok but only 4 attacks at s7 ap2 dam2. I run two and have a technomancer with canoptek command node and dimensional sanctum, I start them off the field. They are very reliable for deleting any key target. Most times I still have one alive at the end of the game. They always earn their points back.
I dont know why but i find Bard hilarious. He reminds me of Austin Powers

Nice battle report. Had a lot of fun watching it. But tbh feels like GK list needs to be more competitive maybe since it's a league battle report. GK without dread knights kinda feels off. Necrons slap hard.
Dreadknights are seeing less and less play overall, with the meta shifting more on "tanky" stuff the damage output of dreadknights isnt cutting it i think. Paladins are on the rise instead, hard to find a list without a 10 man squad of them, if not more.

Dread knight GM in shooting does 12 Ap2 D2 +Ap3 D3 (buffed with stratagems and EA psychic power, also can reroll 1s to wound and hit), other DK will shoot worse but still that's 18 shots a knight. I played against 4 Dread knights with my Iron hands. GK single target damage is insane.
@@ruramen8 Thr grand master is the only one i sometimes find worth bringing. I think I kinda exagerated on them tho, they can be good and are probably the only actually decent shooting unit we have, i think its the game long investment that is the problem. Using stratagems every turn just to make them good into aoc and void armor when that will come out, is a big investment. But as all things its very matchup dependent, against more squishy armies NDK still smack so hard its scary, on the other hand Big bricks of paladins/terminators holding objectives works the same against almost every army. Heck if paladins can hold tau shooting they can hold anything. I wish ven dreads and purgation squads where a little bit better, id love to be able to play a little bit of everything.

Random charge distance is easily the worse rule in W40k imho. Imagine having a random distance for shooting.

Chef played quite competently both times. As a Necron player, I can say, the majority of "elite" units for Necrons don't seem to be really elite, for example the Lychguard, I wish they could be more special next edition, same about Triarch Praetorians.
I would use the points on something different instead of the Lychguard, maybe he could try Deathmarks, 10 of them are 150 points, he would have 100 extra points to use in anything else, for example, putting three extra Ophydian Destroyers and still have 10 points, or just drop the three Ophydian Destroyers and use the 90 points to get 9 Deathmarks and keep the 10 Lychguard. I just think he still needs more shooting in this list to help the Skorpekh Destroyers. I would keep the Lokhust Destroyers anyway has the anti-tank.
The Skorpekh Destroyers are still very fragile and I always see other Necron players losing them before they have any use. Chef used them well this time when compared to the last match where they were destroyed before they did anything.
Anyway, I really hope he can win this league.

He did it right, I see a lot of other Necron players who have the terrible idea of approaching melee armies, for example, using Relentless Expansionist while facing World Eaters... Not healthy.
Also many players waste the Wraiths and Skorpekh Destroyers by blindly advancing with them. Wraiths in particular can be used quite tactically.

Really solid game though, I like Bard's list a lot, but personally I would suggest a GMNDK and 2 Vendreads, rather than 3 Vendreads
I cant not run a Grandmaster in Dreadknight In any "serious" game, Servant of the Throne for the 3++ and Sigil of exigence he projects such a threat in any given game and is usually an mvp in my experience

Bard is probably playing the worst army in all the league, and still managed to get it within his grasp. Not getting purifying ritual was a bumskis, but would have made it way closer! Well done to both. Chef played a great game too!

Because that aura is only for melee attacks

Why can you roll reanimation all at the same time but you have to roll plasma separately? Sure the same rules apply where you're picking and choosing to suit you

@@Deliverance90 yeah I get that but it feels cheap to roll a big block of dice for reanimation and go "oh all those 5+ pass for this one model" but when rolling for plasma I can't take all the 1s on one model
Because Plasma specifically says you kill "the" bearer, so you don't want to roll them altogether, get 5 6s, and wipe the whole unit, when in "reality" 3 of those 1s were on the same model, for example.
RP specifically says reanimate "a destroyed model".
They work in favour for both player, this isn't some nefarious scheme 😅
@@thepastrychef8014 yeah I get that but like I say rolling all at once for plasma is a bonus as I can allocate all fails to one model in the same way all passes are allocated to once model. Surely RP should be rolled per model too?
@@Eddyvanjones No you're not allowed to do that, as said Plasma kills the "bearer"- you can't know who the bearer is if you fast roll. RP specifically says you roll all the RP together. So RP it's literally in the rules, whereas Plasma you have to revert to slow rolling (which is technically the rules, fast rolling is optional and only applies if you know there's the same stats and no extra things associated with them, like Plasma)

Minor thing, but Gem of Inoktu doesn't boost the cast of Purifying Flame because it's Dominus only. Didn't actually matter here, but something to bear in mind.
where are the TROOP CHOICES for necrons??????? how do you make up an army without any troops? i.e. warriors or immortals

Less terminators, more interceptors, Maybe take ONE dread -- you need more mobility not relying on psychic powers to make that work. And Dreadknights.
Still feels like the GK termies are too expensive points wise, especially with AoC existing for the interceptors/strike marines
Between the ctan powers, the reanimation, and the op secondaries I'm sick of playing against the goddamn necrons! I'm over it, Between playing them and gaurd with my chaos every fucking week it makes me not want to play. I try to be a good sport, im bout over losing everytime.
Hey have these guys ever done a army swap game? Where they say at turn 3 play there opponents army. I can see chef or beard being very funny to watch doing that
Seems somewhat counterintuitive though? You'd just play to not score points on the first two turns so you don't give your opponent an easy time in the second half. Maybe I'm missing something 😅
@@thepastrychef8014 well the objective is the best score from the whole match of the player. So it’s what points you got before the switch and then what you can get after. I’ll admit weird but fun. Racking your brain to find a way to gain points while leaving ways to score after turn 3.
I would suggest drop the paladin and 1 dreadnought and go for 2 unit of 10 terminators + some power armor support. get them a 5+fnp they are good at holding the mid board. great match!
