Shane is the main leader of Westlife songs. I don't know where some people feel that there would be a lack if Mark is not there . Shane has been singing these songs for over 20 years. And on top of that he's had the most successful Solo tours all over Europe so he's used to singing alone. It bothers me when people are trying to belittle his experience and expertise as a vocalist as if he depends on anyone for any song.
The problem is Westlife songs are 4 part harmony and its not Westlife ft Shane. Mark is high tenor 1, Shane is high tenor 2, Nicky is Baritone and Kian wanders between Baritone and Bass. Mark and Shane can interchange but one of them always takes High Tenor and the other Low Tenor which is how they get the crisp blend they are known for. Without one of the four, you take away an entire line of music. Which means the Baritone (Nicky) is doing triple the work because he's covering the Tenor line, Baritone and blending with the bass. If BSB wasn't on their own tour, I'd have said call up Nick Carter to help.
i know but as they getting older, they start not to sound as good as their prime days. mark however is the only vocalist who's still capable or i should say even better on excecuting the songs. his vocal technique is getting better as he gets older. the way he put those ad libs and high notes is what makes his role more important than their younger days when it all was too focused on shane as the lead vocalist
and the other thing that's so unfortunate is that i was hoping for nicky and kian to get more solos as they had to cover some of mark's part. no need to cover the high notes cuz i know none of them can. but at the very least, kian and nicky still could've gotten some of mark's part. but turns out it was all given to shane so it's more like shane's solo performance with extra two guys. the only thing that nicky has done more was the first pre-chorus of starlight, even that he didnt even finish the pre-chorus and only sang the part that actually similar to his.
I'm glad Mark took the time off. He doesn't need to risk a vocal injury. All we have to do is look over at BSB to know how awful those injuries can be.
You’re right! Last time I saw BSB live I was shocked because I honestly thought Brian would sound better. It must be so frustrating for him and for the other boys. He used to have such a beautiful voice. I know there’s no solution for his condition though 😕
@@Cba0 Brian has a long lasting case of dysphonia, whilst Mark has pneumonia which will be healed 100%, not the same thing. Brian sounded decent back this October when I saw them live.

I must admit though that for some time I was kinda worried as pneumonia affects the lungs but thankfully he’s talking off all the time he needs to recover completely. When it comes to Brian, I think that him sounding a bit better or not is a hit or miss nowadays. I saw BSB live and, poor him, he sounded bad and attendants who were not hardcore fans and didn’t know about his issues were complaining 😕. But I saw some videos from other shows in which he sounded a bit better. I heard BSB used playback in some parts for Brian in some tours. Maybe it’d be good for him to use it again to not force his voice that much… I don’t know 🤷♀️

I think this less about vocals and more his lungs and lack of breath, pneumonia is literally damp lungs
