Its kind of hillarious how 1987 Shredder was just a goober and then 4Kids of all things counterbalanced him by creating an iteration that is a genocidal egomaniac and *easily* one of the biggest haters in all of fiction. And what's crazier is that basically every Shredder AFTER this show took *some* level of inspiration from it.

My absolute favourite tidbit though is how he's responsible for the teenage mutant turtles existing, unlike other shredders. His sabotage of the prison ship and subsquent rise to power lead to his enemies creating the ooze that would turn the turtles into their mutant selves, and they even directly point out that had the shredder not existed they would jsut be normal pets in some kid's house.

And Splinter was either a rat first or a human (always Hamato Yoshi) who was mutated with a rat and became a ratman. And then Splinter raise the turtles trained them in ninjitsu in the sewers of NYC.

So when the Creator had to go somewhere they tricked him into signing some papers and telling him not to look and just telling him they're doing a new Spider-Man story we need to run it past you. Make sure he didn't see it and then by the time he realized it. They rushed it out and have her die that way to make his story more tragic. They didn't even think about it. They thought the Creator will be happy but he was mad. He couldn't even fire it on because they worked for marvel and they tricked them into signing the paper. Which made the Creator really mad which made him make Mary Jane to give Spider-Man a new Love and to spite them.
Fun fact: A blink and you'll miss it detail is that the pommel of The Sword of Tengu is literally an image of Ch'rell. The foreshadowing was really well done.

Because he was just as morally bankrupt, so the biggest difference between them is that Utrom Shredder had WAY more time in his life to rack up charges, and way more resources to spread his evil. Like, 2012 Shredder did some stuff that the Utrom Shredder absolutely would have done given the chance, but didn't get it, solely because the backstory for 2012 Shredder allowed him to be even prettier and more personal with his hating.

What I find cool is that the part where the Foot Clan destroyed April's shop/apartment and putting Leonardo in a coma, is sort of similar to what happened in the 1990 live-action TMNT movie where instead of Leonardo getting jumped and put in a coma - it was Raphael; and before that happened, Master Splinter was kidnapped by Shredder and his underage delinquent foot grunts.
fun fact: Krang, the "pink blob" you see in the body during exhibit c, is essentially the 1987 turtles version of Ch'Rell. i dunno if his race was named utrom there, but he had been an evil scientist and warlord of his race (who are not just aliens but from another universe, Dimension X), and by the time you see him at the start of the show he had already been captured and banished to our dimension. but, what you see wasn't all of him. he had had a full body originally, thats just his head. so they literally captured him, tried him, then after finding him guilty, had decapitated him and threw his still living head thru a portal to another universe.

Quick summary for Skitten on the general origin of TMNT: They were pets, some accident happened that led to them going to the sewers, and around the same time the rat named Splinter runs into them as they are crawling the Ooz(supernatural toxic waste). Splinter gathers them up and also ends up touching the Ooz, and over time, they evolved into the humanoid animals you see now. Splinter, like all rats, is smart and has a good memory, so he raised and trained the turtles in martial arts. He named all the turtles after his favorite Victorian era artists; Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo.

you may not have liked the utrom shredder twist back in the day but I loved it, especially ebcause 1) it explains HOW shredder became so powerful, he had over a thousand years to build an empire from the ground up and 2) its used to tie him to the turtles, as the radioactive ooze that turned them into mutants was leftovers from the Utroms' experiments with their technology (which further explains why it had such an unusual effect comapred to ordinary radioactive waste) which was being develoepd becaquse the utroms were trying to escape the shredder, meaning the turtles exist BECAUSE the shredder crash landed on earth with others of his race. It's a beautiful irony that the shredder is partially responsible for the very existence of his greatest enemies. its also a really fun dichotomy that the vilest villain in the show was this tiny little scrimblo looking motherfucker.
They creators actually had to toned it down with turtles in like season 5. Makes me think that if Fox wasn't so strict with anime, 4Kids would've let a lot more things slide.

As someone who’s trained with both nunchucks and quarter staff, nunchucks are completely useless as a weapon. Use a bat it’s way better. Quarter staff will no diff most of the turtles’ weapons unless sneak attacks are involved.

you may not have liked the utrom shredder twist back in the day but I loved it, especially ebcause 1) it explains HOW shredder became so powerful, he had over a thousand years to build an empire from the ground up and 2) its used to tie him to the turtles, as the radioactive ooze that turned them into mutants was leftovers from the Utroms' experiments with their technology (which further explains why it had such an unusual effect comapred to ordinary radioactive waste) which was being develoepd becaquse the utroms were trying to escape the shredder, meaning the turtles exist BECAUSE the shredder crash landed on earth with others of his race. It's a beautiful irony that the shredder is partially responsible for the very existence of his greatest enemies.
its also a really fun dichotomy that the vilest villain in the show was this tiny little scrimblo looking motherfucker.

As someone who’s trained with both nunchucks and quarter staff, nunchucks are completely useless as a weapon. Use a bat it’s way better. Quarter staff will no diff most of the turtles’ weapons unless sneak attacks are involved.
2003 Shredder is so maniacal, that he surpassed the reputation of the literal DEMON whose name he stole

Edit 2: The typical origin of the turtles is that they were pet store turtles a kid bought in a jar, but the kid accidentally dropped the jar, and they got washed down a storm drain. At the same time, the aliens were transporting a vial of Mutagen (evolutionary steroids) in a passing truck and one of the containers fell into the same drain, spilling the mutagen onto the turtles and a passing rat (Master Splinter)
