Great program as well as a great leader. The struggle for freedom against imperialist and colonialists is a great thing. Every leader has something in their lives that can be percieved as bad, however, that should never overshadow the good and their willingness to resist colonial occupation/exploitation/ and racism. May Bro.Kenyatta Rest in Peace!!!

I new Kenyatta when I was 10 years I was in primary school at Kahugu-ini Gatundu, we were a group which were dancing for Kenyatta. I thank GOD for Uhuru cause when I see Uhuru I see Kenyatta and I used to admire him so much as a father. May GOD bless Uhuru and his family. Am not in Kenya for know but I hope I will see Uhuru some day face to face just to remember Mzee jomo Kenyatta and not in any other reasons.

I like this written by Michael Nyanja "Do not judge the man for what you expect today but rather on what was expected of him in his day. He did a lot for his time and was exactly the man this country needed then. Could he have done better sure, but so could everyone else and so could we. You call him a dictator but if he wasn't this country might have been worse off. In his era the countries around him were at civil war and so he had to rule with an iron fist to stow any uprising that would split the newly formed Kenya." This is very true. You can't compare a man who prepares land to plant crops from a virgin forest with another who is preparing a land which has been cultivated for years. Remember the one who goes to a virgin land has to clear the land, fell trees, uproot trucks etc. before doing the actual planting, whereas the other man does not go through all these.

I'm not a Kenyan and may not know Kenya as Kenyans but can say with absolute certainty that Jomo did something worthy of appreciating. Every person in live has his or her weaknesses and Kenyata is no exception. If Africa is to celebrate and be proud of her leaders, both present and past, Kenyata will surely be one of them.

Very Informative, i hope people could respect True History and stop trying to rewrite. Jomo Kenyatta was a true Statesman and a hero to my generation. He will always be remembered fondly for what he stood for.

to all the people who are bashing him, how many of you actually have lived in Kenya? or are you relying on media? How many have seen 1st hand what he did FOR Kenya and the people? The people of Kenya are the most unpretencious people I have ever met, then TV/media invaded what is truly Kenya. It was always said that once he passed the country would go to hell in a hand basket. D A Moi was VP when I lived there, so there went alot of his hard work.:(. Jomo Kenyatta was loved by many

First of all he did not fight for the liberation of Kenya, Mzee Kenyatta was seen as a the leader of the Mau Mau, which he denied during his trials. Second, he did not send them(the english) home, he encouraged them to stay, by setting up a settlement scheme, which he used to enrich himself and other like minded individuals. He was basically a dictator, who cared less about the democratic right of the Kenyan people. I cannot fault him on being a brilliant tactician in how he ruled the country.

It was not as easy as some people may think for him to unite the Kenyan. Many are nations who have not been able to enjoy their freedom even after attaining it. During the struggle for freedom, there were some grouping, fighting for the same goal and these would have been very hard for them to unite especially after attaining freedom. In Kenya there are about 42 tribes and some fought for the freedom and others did not, yet when Kenya was freed, the national cake was placed on the table and divided equally. What more did the young nation need than living in harmony with one another. It is a high time Kenyan rub the very bold lines drawn between tribes and therefore live as Brothers and Sisters. Kenyans should stop looking back, to those things which happened many years ago and instead concentrate on the future, especially for the sake of their future generation. They should let LOVE unite them.

Can someone tell me why us Africans never appreciate anything
Why do we always criticise our leaders
I am not a Kenyan but I really appreciate what this great man has done for his country
At the time he did it things were much harder than now so appreciate it and learn from it that is all don’t hate.

Kenyan's are some of the oldest people in Africa and have a lot to do with history but the neighboring countries have been so diverse due to the impact of colonial changes in it's time it's made it harder for Kenyan's to understand or cope with changes implied such as cultural and religion benefactors. In order to grasps ones true intentions in ideology

mau mau was made up of 100,000 men and women.this brave souls brought down the colonial gorvermnet.central province was seled from the rest of kenya and the british army of 11 battalions with their africa loyalists fought a hard battle from 1952 to 1960.war are very expensive the maumau revolution cost the british empire alot of many plus maintaining detainees and detention camps for mau mau captives.britain had a massive indebt incured for fighting Hitler in the second world war and the mau mau war made the debt even worse.so they could no longer be able to sustain an empire. Thanks maumau war veterans for driving the british colonials out.

Umm, the country could have been better off had the man stuck with the plan that was agreed upon at the Lancaster Conference. You can be a firm leader without necessarily being a dictator. Maybe if he was a competent leader, he wouldn't need to change the constitution so many times just to ensure that his powers went unchecked.

Kenyatta is singular for Manyatta, Kikuyu word for beads. Because of spotting a Maasai beaded belt, people would refer him Kìnyatta.

So, the people who bore scars are the only ones who fought for independence? Kenyans are very ungrateful. Britain, the colonialists then described him and the Mau Mau as the most important contributors to fighting them. He made mistakes, no doubt about that, and no one is perfect, but trying to downplay his role just because you were taught not to like him is quite uninformed and shallow. We must grow up and learn to analyse matters critically.
