  • Part 3 of the tear down unedited series. Again this isn’t meant to be instructional but is for entertainment. I make these for reference and fun.

      I did a full bearing replacement, new oil pump and rings, rebuild.

    Hello! How good is the '01 Isuzu Rodeo? The engine and transmission mostly. And how does it compare to a similar year Pathfinder or 4Runner?

    • @r1beef88
      @r1beef88  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I love the Isuzu rodeo over the pathfinder for couple reasons. It has much more power and explosive torque. The V6 revs smooth and fast and the transmission hasn’t given any issues. I’ve had 3 and I’d say the same about all of them. Super easy to work on. And doesn’t have computer issue because it’s wired with relays and fuses. Tight turning radius as well. Having the low range 4x4 makes it capable crawler and I was able to climb really steep hills slowly without losing traction. I’d pick it over the competition. It uses Torsen bars on the front suspension so it’s easy to crank up the height and stiffness making it sweet for bombing down backroads.
      On the bad it doesn’t have LSD diff, which is its biggest downfall.

    Please, does this method of finding fault apply to all cars with timing belt? Such as Dodge and Toyota Land Cruiser

      No. Timing systems can be extremely different across model of engine, car, manufacturers. Research your specific needs. 🤘🇨🇦

    It does that intentionally as the tensioner is on that side and with tension applied the passenger head is timed correctly

    Hello I'm about to replace the cam and crank seals on the same motor-While I'm in there I was thinking about doing the water pump and T-belt- Do I need to clock the CRANK AND CAMS to the timing marks-or can I just put the new belt on?-Its in time now-I was just going to put on a new belt while I have it open-Or can I just take the t-belt off and set the crank and cam pulleys to there marks after I change the seals? and the cam seals are behind the cam pulleys, right? the kit I got only came with 1 crank seal and 2 cam seals-but in your 5th video it looks like when you are taking the cam caps off there are seals at both ends of the cams-if that's the case I'm missing 2 cam seals

    • @r1beef88
      @r1beef88  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello there.
      You should line up your timing marks (all 3) then remove and replace your belt. It’s best to line up the 3 timing marks on the new belt with all 3 marks on the engine to ensure it’s proper. Belts are built very specifically in design.
      Clocking the heads is very easy to do if things do get spun around. It does not hurt anything to clock them and I recommend doing it to be certain if you don’t immediately reinstall a new belt.
      As for the seals there should only be 2 for cam seals. Located at the front of engine. The rear has no seals other then the rubber grommets that slide into the slots in the cylinder head.
      Definitely don’t be intimidated by this engine. It’s very straightforward and simple. No fancy electronics or small bits.

    Would that engine be ruined if the timing belt were to break while the vehicle is operating?

    • @r1beef88
      @r1beef88  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My guess is the engine would shut down immediately. The pistons would spin a bit if you were moving before you pulled it out of gear. If afterwards you tried starting the engine over and over over again that may compound any damage done. My guess is it wouldn’t be ruined but damaged.
      I’ll be shooting a new video about the cylinder head and piston clearances very soon. Then we all know for sure. 👍
      In the past I may have hand cranked this engine without timing belt on and valves array. It still worked afterwards without noticeable damage. So my guess is not ruined. But every situation is different.

    Hi where is located the crankshaft sensor for a Isuzu rodeo 1991 engine 3.1 We can’t find it 😭

    • @r1beef88
      @r1beef88  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well on the 3.2 engine it is located right behind the passenger motor mount. It takes its reading off a wheel attached to the crank shaft located on the center of the crank shaft.
      I am unsure if it is exactly the same on the 91 3.1l motor but I would start there. It’s a accessible 1 bolt fix 👍.

    Its confusing why do you need to rotate several times if its already lineup??

    • @r1beef88
      @r1beef88  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The engine design works on some weird 3 cycle firing rotation valve system. It’s not like a regular Ford or chev small block. Which you just line up easily.
      If you don’t clock the heads properly your engine runs very badly or not run at all and will act and perform like the timing is off. IF it runs at all it’ll run very POORLY. I didn’t clock the heads when I first changed head gaskets. When I took the timing belt off again. Everything looked right, but it runs like garbage. So after properly clocking them, everything was restored to proper levels.
      Its an important step.

      Look for my newest video and it’ll show you the importance of clocking the heads. 👍

    Why do you put on 2-30 instead of 3 o’clock

    • @r1beef88
      @r1beef88  ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason to turn it back to 2 o’clock is because 3 o’clock puts number 1 cylinder at TDC. By turning it back a bit it lessens the chance of piston / valve contact while rotating the engine around setting the heads. In later videos I do determine the Isuzu V6 to be a non interference engine.

    • @r1beef88
      @r1beef88  ปีที่แล้ว

      Turn the crank back a tooth and then put belt around it. Then turn crank forward again that should give you more power to get slack needed to slide it over.
      Is your tensioner set with the pin in keeping it retracted? Then remove pin after belt is in place.

  • @AJ-oj5eu
    @AJ-oj5eu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Clearly not an interference engine

    • @r1beef88
      @r1beef88  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is, that’s why you need to set back the crank before you start setting the heads. Turn crank back from 3oclock to 1:30. Then rotate heads to proper position. 👍

    • @r1beef88
      @r1beef88  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnhanselman6371 I haven’t had a belt break on me yet. Obviously that’s catastrophic but would it ‘ruin’ the engine or just damage it. There is some interference of piston and valve, but how much…. I have an engine and head in my garage already separated. Tomorrow I will shoot a video and we will find out for sure how much interface there actually is and from there we can use that info.
      My guess is there is damage, but would it be enough to destroy the engine ??
