I used to do this as a kid, I also put my fingers from green to to blue instead of red to orange, getting used to these 2 changes took me about 2 months and I can now play wayyy better then before.
Alexander Maue it’s honestly not that. Hard. Depending on the pick you use, you can angle your arm and just let your wrist evenly flow on the strings. (I play guitar)

Next you gotta try The Number of the Beast with only downstrums. I used to play it that way until I learned to alt-strum and it was the most painful song I've ever played

first of all when you down pick and palm mute you have to use a wrist motion I've been playing this song for years and its harder than down strumming on a game, you use your thumb only so it's easier

So as someone who plays both Guitar Hero and real guitar, (I'm better at Guitar Hero but that almost makes my point more true) I call bullshit. If you are a half decent guitar player, navigating the 6 strings isn't shit. Plus for the most part you're only down picking on the E string. Occasionally the A string. I can play Master of Puppets downpicking on my guitar. I've also tried many times to do this on Guitar Hero. It is way harder on Guitar Hero. Not that it isn't kind of hard on an actual guitar, but it's freaking horrible on Guitar Hero. Maybe you should at least slightly learn your shit before you're like "lol theres 6 strings that means its harder"
When i went to see Metallica with my older brother in May 2018 we got to talk with James himself. We were in the front row and he was standing on our side of the stage where he wanted to talk with the audience between songs and we got his attention! Best moment of my life :D
i found that holding your thumb and index finger together like you're actually holding a pick and then using your index fingers fingernail to strum while bracing the side of your hand on the guitar is much more natural and much easier to pull off when doing only downstrokes as it simulates the palm muting and also the strumming motion that you'd have on a real guitar.
Is there anyone else out there that plays Guitar Hero in a similar way I do? This is what I taught myself to do when I was 7 and it has stuck with me to this day (I'm 19) - Guitar controller placed on lap (fret buttons facing ceiling) - Use 1st and 2nd for everything (play fret buttons like piano keys). Very rarely use 3rd or 4th fingers outside of three-note chords. (example: a blue and orange note trill with a green note at the end, use 3rd or 4th finger on green) - Slide 1st and 2nd fingers across frets during solos (usually if there is a HOPO pattern of at least four individual colors like GRYB or GRYO for example I have to do this. I can play a pattern of three HOPO notes like a piano, without having to slide) - Thumb does not touch the guitar neck - all upstrums using right index finger, with middle finger for support, palm muted. Only times I ever alt strum is for things like 4:00 - no two-handed playing My best FC is Cult of Personality. You're definitely laughing at this point but I promise, I don't play real guitar like this. And if I knew how to stream where you could see me and the chart, I'd have videos to prove that I'm telling the truth
Charles Mcmurray speaking strictly from the right hand perspective, I think real guitar is still more difficult. It’s not like you have to go any slower on the real thing lol. You also have six strings to switch between where a guitar hero controller only has one button to hit. Not to mention you need to know other techniques like palm muting and how to hold the pick properly. The fact that this guy can downpick the whole thing on guitar hero after less than an hour of practice shows that the real thing is harder
@@gewittervonwahrheit5032 this is hard to compare, some things are harder on guitar hero, like tapping for example, but when it comes to downpicking, yeah real guitar is harder and you also have to palm mute while alternating the strings AND some un-muted notes during the part before the verse (cant remember how it is called though)
@Common Sense it can be sometimes, Im having more trouble playing some songs on guitar hero than on a real guitar, and sometimes (most of the times) its the other way around. Master of puppets is definitely 100x times harder on real guitar though

Fun fact: while it is technically easier to not apt strum on real guitar, your arm starts to hurt very similarly, Hetfield’s endurance when it comes to down strumming is unreal.
I wanna make it clear to anyone who doesn't know, the first solo is played by Hetfield and so he has to downstroke that solo but can alt pick the second solo because it's played by Hammett, who does actually alt pick
i genuinely want someone to make a GH controller but with a weird string like on the Pro Guitar. the hardest thing about the guitars for the game is the strum bar. idk it’s a dumb idea.
Seeing you struggle with this is kinda mind boggling to me. Down strumming is the only way I play, with the exception of obvious parts like you mentioned. I’m not necessarily going to say it’s easy, but I feel way more comfortable down strumming than alt strumming.
It really is more tiring. Im talking about downpicking, and I've been playing both GH and Real guitar for many years, trust me... Although it is harder on real guitar because you have to make it sound right, and to alternate between muted and un-muted is fkn hard

I used to be so bad at alt strumming. My friends would make fun of how much I would down strum. I remember the only way I could FC the super chordy bridge of Before I Forget was to down strum everything. Now that I'm into Clone Hero 10 years later, I kinda forced myself to not torture myself like that anymore.
I actually play like this. I do alt as well, but usually only on chugging sections. I also have huge hands, so I play red-orange but with my index finger stretched over to the green. I can rock between the two frets quite easily, and I can play GRY chords with 2 fingers, which is useful on songs that have frequent chord changes.

The trick is to keep the heel of your hand held (not pressed) below the strum bar and just move your thumb

this is how i played most of the songs for my first time playing expert charts, and i was able to pass most sections down strumming

I used to be so bad at alt strumming. My friends would make fun of how much I would down strum. I remember the only way I could FC the super chordy bridge of Before I Forget was to down strum everything. Now that I'm into Clone Hero 10 years later, I kinda forced myself to not torture myself like that anymore.

I actually play like this. I do alt as well, but usually only on chugging sections. I also have huge hands, so I play red-orange but with my index finger stretched over to the green. I can rock between the two frets quite easily, and I can play GRY chords with 2 fingers, which is useful on songs that have frequent chord changes.
