  • I Kana Property Scam!
    I was scammed. And I really feel lousy over it. I will be sharing how I fell into a property scam, and how I uncovered it with the help of the authorities. I will also talk about some pressing issues faced by our migrant workers and my solution to it.

    Despite our predicament, you still managed to inject some little jokes which are very funny...............glad that you got this problem resolved. I think the key start off point is renting to professional executives will likely not get you into this monkey sub letting issue.

    No need to be angry. Lesson learnt next time confiscate 2 or 3 months deposit. Hopefully can cover damages. My tenant zao i feel confuscate 2 mth deposit is okay . .

    Why you rent to them? Soft spot? I think the higher rent lah.

    Agree Alan. I have seen a 3 bedroom converted to 6 or even 7 bedrooms. Totally agree with you that the authorities from HDB, URA and CEA sit down together to review and maybe revise the current rental and co-living criteria and regulations before it turn into cage living soon. Quick fix is just like what UK: Increase the current sq feet allowable per room to 30% more space, no more than 4 bedrooms per unit, adequate living, dining and kitchen space for better living environment. In Uk there is also a stringent permit that the landlord must apply for inspection if a unit has more than 4 room. Google HMO in UK and you can access to the various information (House in multiple occupation) They treat their tenants like human not animals. Thank you and maybe can initiate this with our authorities.

      True. Like some hospital manage their own premises for their healthcare workers...other segments should also do so..

    What's the punishment to the main tenant? Deported?

      Govt agency told me can be warning, fine to severe case. Jail term. Landlord can also kana warning.

    Public Housing must act like Public Housing ! Only Singapore Citizen can rent and live in HDB Flat ! 😅

      Many of our seniors rent out their flat for retirement to stay with children...we have to consider individual situation too.

      Kana cheated. It's another form of scam. There are many out there are legit scams too. Unfortunately, nothing we can do about it.

    Becoz there are evil landlords who rent out utility rooms or balcony space thus proliferate such black market room rentals. The low income blue collar jiuhu or prc worker friends can only afford such pricing 300-400 per month in this superduperex city state. What can the govt do? Build migrant worker (non construction) dorms??

      That why most Malaysian prefer to ride n stay in JB. I can only feel for them. Serious underlying issues in our housing system.

    If the tenants got stamp duty chop their 1 year tenancy agreement, then even if they do illegal things in the flat or they put more than 8 tenants in the apartment, then how the agent evict the tenants? If the tenants die die don't want to move out, what can the agent and the flatowner do? I got heard from someone he said his relative rented his whole hdb apartment to 4 malaysians and later on the malaysians tenants did illegal things in the flat, and the agent and the houseowner came down to evict the malaysians but the malaysians just use a new padlock to lock the gate and they die die refuse to move out, the malaysians said they got stamp duty chop the 1 year tenancy agreement, and the malaysians said the flatowner must produce a court eviction order if they want to evict the malaysians before the 1 year is up.
    In the end, the flatowner went to apply for court eviction order to get the malaysians to move out

      Tenant profile already a red flag. The outcome is almost guaranteed 😂
