    I'm really surprised the piston ring didn't snap when you were stretching them out. They must be steel and not cast steel. Thank God. The way I do them is to just pry them over by hand. If they are over expanded they may wear in the cylinder bores more than if not. Once the motor warms up they should relax just fine. You guys are doing a really good job. Expecially the keeping everything clean part. That's super important. Thanks for sharing.

      I know that wasnt the proper way to get the rings on there. But I watched a few youtube where they stretched them with these pliers to get them on

      @@FishxScale What I do is take a real fine piece of sandpaper in right on the sharp edge that's going to be against the piston I touch it up a little bit that way I can slip the rings over the piston without stretching them just slip them over like I said without scratching the pistons. You should be fine . Is not like I was on time enough to tell you before you did it. One trick would be To take a hand dryer in warm up the pistons and the rings when you put the piston ring squeezer around the rings before you put it in the cylinder just warm them up overnight in let them cool back down before you try to put them in. By warming them up with a hand dryer you will naturally make them conform to the shape and not overheat them. When I read watching it looked like they where stretched out just...a little bit more than I'm use to seeing them. But that's on Chevy engines that I build a lot of. Like I said. I'm sure your fine but it will never hurt to warm them and let them cool all the way back down before you install them.

    Great video Jeff. I'll follow along as the build progresses. Getting ready for the summer fishing season, do it yourself style.

    The best 90 hp engine ever built. Took me 6 months to find a good used one. Take care of it ! And make sure those rods arent magnetized before you assemble it all.

    I figured this out as I went. The first one took an hour to get together , the next two went together in 40 minutes combined.

    When you had the cylinder bored I assume they knew to chamfer the ports so it wouldn’t catch a ring again ?

    They do have circlip pliers that has the ends of the pliers that allow you to grip the open ends of the clip. To bad they didnt make the circlips with a slightly larger ends with a hole in it. Then just a cheap Harbor Freight set of snap ring pliers would have made it an easy job.

      Yeah I looked them up didnt want to wait/pay for one time use. In hindsight they would have been worth it

      @@FishxScale yeah I hate how specialty tools are priced. But in the end you got it done and didnt waste 50-100 bucks on a tool you'll probably never use again. Good job, looking forward to the rest of the build

    With the clips would a socket the same size have been an easier way to knock them in?

      @@FishxScale Do you recall using a certain type of socket? My bolts look like 12point, but i cannot get a socket over them as the shoulder of the connecting rod cap is too close to the bolt.

    • @FishxScale
      @FishxScale  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a 1/4 inch 12point socket it barely fit

    Great video but such a terrible design by Yamaha, using needle bearings on that pin. That's just an engineer that got beat up in school taking his revenge on everyone LOL.
