    I loved this video Jules thank you. I collected and read all the Agatha Christie books in the 1980s, I should think they were all printed around that time - most had white covers with 20's stylised text on the front. I was particularly fascinated with Hercule Poirot and loved David Suchets portrayal of him on TV. He seemed so accurate to the way she described his looks and mannerisms, it was marvelous. This video has re sparked my interest and I may try to seek out a few of the earlier editions, would be wonderful to own a few. Thank you Jules!

      Great stuff Kev! You won't have any problem getting the Tom Adams editions on eBay, really common but a little tough in top condition. David Suchet was of course the master Poiriot.👍

    Great Vid mate. God , those 70's adams covers used to scare me as a kid , still freaks me out to this day.

    Nice . The Fontana Adams art is worth framing . Many of the covers seem to belong more in a fantasy/ horror setting . Some even in a sf . As always , thank you .

    Thanks for the Agatha Christie video. Really takes me back to when i saw most of these books loitering around a variety of 2nd hand book shops in the 70s and 80s. I have some of the later books but they re difficult to find over here on the european mainland. Any chance of a James Hadley Chase retrospective?

    • @JulesBurt
      @JulesBurt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Philip, a James Hadley Chase might be a possibility. I'll need to find a decent job lot of those as I've not got many! These 70's editions are well remembered, they certainly haunted me as a kid in the 70's🙂

      Thanks, Jules. No problem. I was able to pick up a good collection of JHC books printed in India recently at a book fayre and they reminded me a little of the 70s Corgis, although not as explicit but still capture the atmosphere of the Chase books. Best wishes.

    Hi Jules. This is a really interesting video, thanks for sharing. I’m an avid Christie collector and have all but four titles in first edition. Are you aware of the quirk with the paperback Third Girl? The first Fontana paperback edition (which has the same artwork as the copy you showed) has an error in the fact that it’s titled THE Third Girl. The error must have been picked up pretty quickly, and in consequence it’s hard to track down - consider that to be challenge set! Best wishes. Philip 😊

    • @JulesBurt
      @JulesBurt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the great information. I had heard something about Third Girl but I'm glad you have so clearly spelled it out, I know what to look out for now! Just four 1st editions, is that hardback or paperback first?

      @@JulesBurt I was lucky enough to find the erroneous copy on eBay for a good price, but I’ve only ever seen it the once. My collection is the hardback firsts

    Oops. Looks like my comment was deleted by TH-cam as I'd put a link in it…looks like I cannot even mention it! By the way, when you come to the Fontanas in your video you show your copy of The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding, with a cover painting of tinsel and a dagger.
    That's one of Tom's covers! By my calculation he painted as many as 94 covers for Agatha Christie titles for Fontana and 26 for the US publisher, Pocket Books. Then there's 13 for Fontana that are often taken for Tom's work but are actually by lan Robinson. And then there's other Christie-related books with Tom's cover paintings such as The Great Detectives, and The Agatha Christie Who's Who! Very confusing to keep it all straight in one's head! I’m also the very lucky owner of five of Tom’s original Agatha Christie paintings, two for Fontana (the second versions he did for A Caribbean Mystery, and Destination Unknown) and three for the US publisher, Pocket Books (The Clocks, Dead Man’s Folly, and Remembered Death aka Sparkling Cyanide).

    Thank you for sharing your awesome collection with us Jules, very interesting indeed. I can see why Dame Christie is one of the most published authors in the world, with all those publishers producing her books at the same time. A few of those books stood out as ones that were in my mother's collection. Cheers and looking forward to more of your videos.

    Very interesting video but now I have a problem. So far I’ve limited my ‘sets’ collecting to PG Wodehouse and Ian Fleming but I just know that when I spot my first Agatha Christie one in a charity shop I’ll be off onto another quest.
