Correction To EPS Treatment slide-
First line treatment for Akinesia, dystonia, pseudo-parkinson's: Benztropine/anticholinergic
First line treatment for akathisia: propranolol; second line: benztropine/anticholinergic; third line: benzo
Treatment for tardive dyskinesia: reduce or change antipsychotic med; medications- Deutetrabenzene (Austere) or Valbenazine (Ingrezza); do NOT use cogentin/anticholinergic

Hello. I am not really good at navigating your page and your videos. I finished the psychiatric nurse practitioner program a while ago and need to review for the boards. Could you please tell what order of your videos that you recommend I view them in 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Hello Kenneth. You can watch any videos. There is no particular pattern to watch but I do recommend watching the last minute reviews towards the end as a review. Hope this helps. You got this!
Thank you for your video, referring to purple book page 236, how come Schizophrenia is linked with *increase* glutamate but your video says *decrease* glutamate
Hi Yixi. It’s decreased glutamate for negative symptoms of schizophrenia. Refer to page 70. Table 5-2.
Thanks for the review. Correction at min 28:27 you're rather discussing the atypical antipsychotics When serotonin is blocked by SDA dopamine increases therefore ACh decreases which causes a decrease in EPSE. Tuberoinfundibular: dopamine inhibits prolactin. The blockage of dopamine by SDA causes prolactin to increase causing galactorrhea and gynecomastia. Typical antipsychotics is only D2 blockage the release of the EPSE is profound

an inadvertent error with the D2 agonist Bromocriptine .. you stated it was D2 receptor blocker ?
Bromocriptine stimulates centrally located dopaminergic receptors resulting in a number of pharmacological effects. Various subtypes of dopamine receptors are D1,D2.,etc. Bromocriptine has potent agonist activity of D2 like receptors. Bromocriptine is a partial agonist or antagonist of D1 receptors. Hope this clarifies your questions.

The content of EPS and its treatments are incorrect… propranolol is not first line treatment for a majority of these. Please refer to the ANCC Purple Book, Sadock, or Stahls Neuropsychopharmacology books as valid resources.

Actually you’re both right (kinda). EPS comes in many flavors. Obviously if there is tardive dyskinesia it has to do with dopamine so propranolol is not going to do anything. A VMAT would tho. If it’s pseudo Parkinson’s, yes inderal can thwart the shakes. Depends on MOA of the EPS
