What I liked about Vanilla leveling zones it that each zone had a different problem, everything was not about that one dude at the end of the expansion. And it made you feel like an adventurer, not a 'hero' that you're considered to be now.
Heh, I remember doing that with a PRIEST goddamn, a freaking priest, one of the most horrible classes to grind shit in solo back in vanilla, especially in its first levels. Such an unbelivable nightmare.
My favorite questing zone is the Night Elf start zone, Teldrassil. Thats where I started the my whole WoW career. The atmosphere, the music, the colors, its just so memorable. I loved that place.
I remember that was the first zone i saw before i even played wow and when i did. That's of course where i started. And holy shit was it such a massive place compared to anywhere in the previous mmo i play which was runescape at the time
It wasn't the quests in ashenvale that turned me off it was all the fucking purple the trees were purple the people were purple the building were purple even the green grass somehow looked fucking purple
Man, thinking back.. Am I crazy for thinking that 1-60 was just more fun back then? Maybe fun isn't the right word to use.. interesting? exciting? I'm not really sure what it was that made the old world what it was. But I do miss it. Anyway, I'm not going to go too far down that road. My favorite vanilla zone has to be Westfall. Can't really explain why, but that's one zone I never skipped when leveling.
Whithbrin355 I personally prefer the old questing system for 1-60 WAY more than how Blizzard does quests today. I enjoyed all the traveling and randomness.
Nixxiom Machinima Why not go to a private server there is one right now with 5k people and it's really hard to find a bugged quest also there is no lag
BellularGaming Do it and post it on your channel please!! PLEASE!! THE NOSTALGIA, IT BUURNS!!!!! Seriously, i'd love that. If you channel grows a bit larger, you might be able to host your own. PLEASE.
Jean Paul Blanchette Go ahead and play on one. There is no way for Blizzard to know unless you say you do and/or publicly advertise it in spaces that they monitor/own.
Duskwood... The memories are so overwhelming. I remember first swimming across the lake to reach it, getting mauled by angry wolves five levels above me as soon as I set food onto the uncharted land. Reaching that town, beautiful safety, felt mysterious and kind of ominous. Like the supposed safety is just a facade. And then you begin to explore the dark forest, encountering so many grim monstrosities along the way. The further and deeper you dare to go, the more sinister and deadly everything got. I spent so much time in Duskwood, it will forever be etched into my memory.
I kind of get the feeling that leveling in theese old days was quite a huge thing ... today its just "what? u're still not max level? Hurry up man!" ... like some nasty stuff you have to do in order to finally enjoy the game.
+lupina015 yup hence why people have so many leveling memories from back then. My fave has to be seeing a mass of lowbies band together to kill a level 60 ganker. Oh god it was hilarious, we called ourselves the Crossroads Militia XD
carolasmx HAHAHA yes xD I also have a TON of such memories ^^ We killed the elite soilders at Warsong entrance in Ashevale ... we felt like kings when we got one down xD
I remember when I started in dun morogh... I didn't left that place for about a month until I discovered I could walk to other zones... but khranos will always be a home for me
I honestly always loved the barrens since I started playing wow. I remember playing with some friends there and also the Ratchet part and the ship, was just the most amazing first experience for me. After that it got kind of boring, since I did it a million times. :D
Doronsmovies I always tended to trade between the Barrens and Silverpine Forest after doing the Barrens a couple of times on different alts. Despite its reputation, Silverpine had a lot of cool quests in it, but you just needed to do them in a proper order, otherwise you end up under-leveling within the zone and end up with nothing but silver exclamation marks.
Doronsmovies I am with you on almost all accounts (especially Ashenvale, Eastern Plaguelands & Duskwood - most interesting quest chains, IMO). Sadly, I never got too experienced with regards to the Horde side of things, but Tirisfal Glades & The Barrens are pretty famous as favourite zones to other players, based on what I've heard. I haven't played for 5+ years (left right before Cataclysm), so this was a very nice & "comforting" video to watch, lol. I have so many memories of happily leveling in Ashenvale, when a massive Horde cavalry rushes through on their way to Darnassus & slaughter everything in their way (myself included, obviously).
One of my favorites was the “Wetlands”! It had Menethil harbor, Orcs, Undead Pirates off the coast, Murlocs, Dragons, and tons of other cool stuff. As a Dwarf, I felt a sense of pride riding my ram through the long underground tunnels to reach the Wetlands. It and Arathi Highlands
I agree with tirisfal glades, when i started a Horde character the first time, it defiantly had that atmosphere feel for me. another zone i liked was western plaguelands; i personally didnt get to lvl in it before cata, but when i explored it the first time all i could hear was...nothing. The land itself was full of death and Scourge and no music or sounds, just...dreadful silence. The NPCs and quests were awesome as well.
man i remember the first time heading there as a undead noob rogue, seeing a opening between hills.. trying to stealth past the high level gryphons flying.. got murdered by them both. was so excited when i was high enough level to slash those birds and explore that area.
I also loved Hinterlands. It was so tucked away and almost entirely dependant on you discovering it at the right time. The quests were super fun and there were a lot of them.
Regae Gandalf You can try a vanilla server called Nostalrius begins. It has a lot of players like 4k+ online maybe it won't feel like old WoW but you can try that
My problem is that the game has gone so far off the path that nobody quest anymore, nobody explores much anymore like the game was intended. Go to a questing hub it's a ghost town maybe 1-2 players there at best, that is the aspect of the game that Blizzard has moved away from and needs to go back to otherwise whats the point of having these questing hubs for only a handful of people on a server of thousands. If you go to any capitol city there is where you'll find all the people using LFG, LFR or just queueing for bg's not ever having to leave the sanctuary of the mighty cities. I mean world pvp is at is all time low because of the fact that nobody quest anymore factions running into one and another that were on the same quest I guess you can sum up everything as nobody explores period unless their going for the achievement this could be me rambling but I just call it how I see it. Hopefully Blizzard will do something about this or does something with the dead areas to better utilized the content. I do like where Blizzard is going in Legion on the questing experience where is doesn't matter where you quest the area lvls with you. On another note you forgot to mention 1k needle which I always looked forward to after questing a long time in the barrens.
Silithus is my favorite Vanilla WoW zone because I was 6 when I started playing WoW, and the first zone I ever saw was Silithus. I decided to see what my dad was so interested in the day he participated in the opening of the Gates of Ahn'Quiraj, and he happened to let me sit on his lap while he raided. It's what pulled me in to the game, and I still run Ahn'Quiraj every Tuesday. I don't know if it had any quests prior to Cata, but I still love it.
Leveling 1-60 back in Vanilla was so much more fun. Know why? Because you spent hours upon hours leveling your character. Building professions, making friends, giving your character a place on the server, joining a guild, watching that guild set up ventrilo with 40 other people on a Friday night owning RAGNAROS in MC
I remember levelling in the Hillsbrad Foothills with my Rogue. Tarren Mill was under assault almost all the time, but I usually managed to slip in and out without much trouble. Those days were good days.
My nr. 1 was always the Westfall, Duskwood just behind. I loved the warm farm-feel of a struggling nation, the Defias rebellion, the sea-shanty themes on the coast, helping recover pirate treasure... You had your first paladin class quest there, and of course, the descend to the Deadmines! My god, what a treat.
I really liked that you focused on some of the early Undead leveling zones. Most people's first experience with WoW was Elwynn and Alliance stuff. I never get tired of rolling through Tirisfal, Silverpine, Hillsbrad, and Arathi on a freshly rolled Undead character.
Honestly, my favourite Vanilla zone was Elwynn Forest. It was just... so well designed it hurt. You had the very beginning, helping out Northshire with the Kobold problem in the mines, then you learned of the vineyards and how they were taken over by the Defias. (Which were just plain amazing) Then after that you headed to Goldshire, which while consisting of only three buildings just blew your mind of how much there was to do there. You picked up like, three quests to head to the Fargodeep mine and scout it out while picking up Gold Dust and Candles, the Jangolode mine and the introduction of those god forsaken giant spiders, the Eastvale Logging area, the Garrison next to Westfall where you fought against the ultimate god of destruction Hogger. (At least befoire he was turned into a joke in the Stockades...) Hell, do you remember your first time to Stormwind in vanilla? You didn't get a free ride, you had to walk up the hill, fighting against whatever decided to cross the road (Fucking Defias Cutpurses...) and eventually reaching the massive white bridge with massive statues of heroes from the first and second wars, not to mention just the pure size of the place. Finding your way around Stormwind without a map on your first time there was just not possible. Plus you even had a chance to walk into the main room where Anduin was just plain awesome.
Late addition to all of this nostalgia - I really liked Winterspring. I've always been a fan of snowy areas - and being a dwarf, it felt like I was in my right element - untamed wildlands of giants, yetis, beasts and furbolgs. Oh yeah, the firewater. Need I say more?
I spent a lot of time in Winterspring getting that Saber back in the day, plus gaining rep with the furbolgs as well. Coupled with the zone being so pretty, I'd agree with you about how excellent it was.
I always loved questing in Vanilla Darkshore. I loved the little town of Aurbudine to hang out in with friends, so when it was destroyed, I was really sad to lose such a fun questing area
Couldn't agree more about Duskwood, hands down fave alliance questing zone. Loved Searing Gorge as well, had fond memories of Feralas and Felwood, Hinterlands and Western Plaguelands too
It's a hard choice between Duskwood and Tirisfal Glades, but I think I have to go with Duskwood. Awesome quests, spooky atmosphere and an incredible sense of exploration that is second to none. Duskwood is probably the only zone that I've NEVER skipped (both Vanilla and every expansion that came after it).
Breezy's TH-cam Channel did someone say Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Thank you so much for the walk down memory lane, Nixxiom! I really enjoyed this video, and it brought smile after smile to my face. :) I love the nostalgia of the pre-Cata zones, and the hours I spent in them.
I joined in Mists of Pandaria, so I never got to experience any of the original content, except for the few bits that remained, but I found this really interesting. The entire notion of making friends while questing seems baffling to me, yet really fun, and it makes me sad I never got to see things like Stonewrought Dam and other iconic locations. It seems several zones stood the test of time, since even now I know lots of the zones mentioned are favourites among me and my friends.
Great trip down memory lane here. Nostalgia at its best. Personally Duskwood was/is and always will be my favorite zone. So many great memories and I met some truly awesome people just questing in that area.
I agree wholeheartedly with Loch Modan, 10 Day Trials were never enough for me. I only managed to experience very little of Loch Modan, but what I did get out of it; it was outright beautiful. Now whenever I arrive in Loch Modan, I always bring my character over to a rocky cliff overlooking where the Lochs' line used to be, a spot where a player could just look out at the Dam and feel empowered and joy at such a sight. Now whenever I go there, I just /cry and hope that there'd be an Instanced Event where the Dwarves and Gnomes start-up on rebuilding the Dam and most of the Loch is starting to fill back up again due to rainwater, where those little Murloc Villages we were tasked with dealing with are swept under-current and most of the Murlocs build their houses elsewhere, and down to the south, a group of Dwarves are setting up a bridge to cross that gap into the Badlands by using Dwarf Shamans to help out, and a Shaman Player character would contribute on a personal level with it through a certain quest made specifically for Shamans'.
I think the nostalgia is great but I also think our feelings toward the game back then was because the mystery behind everything... I remember going to plague lands seeing people on horses.. "Can I go with you?" No you can't because you'll get one shouted by the bears 😂😂 the travel from Darnaussus to Stormwind, walking through Wetlands to IF for deeprun tram. Like what are these ?? And skulls for why is this zone so important? You know? Good times man... definitely do miss it
Thanks again Nix! I'm so glad you also acknowledged, the incredible background theme music attached to each of our fave and beloved zones. Blizzard provided gorgeous music for each (i.e. the spooky, forlorn wailing of seemingly desolate Tanaris, just as one example). Setting the mood for a place you expect to spend significant time in, can do a LOT to provide the right frame of mind for questing, grinding or even nervously dashing through, on the way to a more 'comfortable' or 'safe' locale. So happy they kept it for "Classic" as I Love it! :) As for my own fave leveling zones, it's a toss up between Tirisfal Glades and Silver Pine (obviously, I'm Horde for Life). Three reasons, similar to your own. As a huge fan of Warcraft 3 it immediately set the stage for my entry into this wonderful world. It's also where I managed to make my first incredible friends to assist in the multiple quests but also, they were the zones where I actually managed to obtain the skills I needed to become actually good in my class(es). No longer a bungling newb spamming one or two abilities, it's where I learned rotation, kiting, managing cool downs and assisting (and being assisted) others during the daunting tasks of Dungeon crawls, such as SFK and Fenris Isle. As the game progressed, I managed to get quite better but it was the learning phases that I find most memorable. As for the Barrens, like most I have a kinda love/hate relationship with that giganormous zone. When Classic launched, I was tickled pink to discover that all the wonderful players that joined in brought the silly (but nostalgically fun) "Chuck Norris" and "Your Mom" jokes back. Nostalgia is a very heady drug and though preferred in small doses, still great giggles !
Ashenvale was awesome! not only by the quests, the fucking pvp skirmishes were awesome. Questing back then was perfect, exploration, random things and more difficulty (with means co-op necessity). The starting zones of vanilla have evil places of certain death, like the furblogs on the barrows (Teldrassil)
I'm a horde player now but even I'll admit I loved Loch Modan when I was alliance, and have many fond memories of questing there. Since my playtime was limited, I was there for a long time, but I treasured every moment of that beautiful zone.
Yep!! I've been playing on a private BC server and almost cried seeing Auberdine whole again(I know such nerd much wow) but it'd been so long since I'd seen it. I'm not as much as a noob and wow isn't all new and shiny like it was back then but I'm still having a hell of a good time! Especially since this server is PVE and I'm not getting ganked LOL. Not a fan of that personally as its not real PVP.
I remember one of my first characters I ever leveled I accidentally went over to Duskwood just to be met by 15 Skull level wolves... I was terrified but it was awesome!!
I know this is only vanilla. But hoyl shit the BC starting zones for BEs was my ultimate favorite back when i was new. Mainly because it gave that transition from Eversong Woods to Ghostlands and it was like "Oh damn. Shit's getting real! and this undead shit is getting more interesting." And gathering people to kill those two massive abominations was such a feat for a nub back then. And it left me craving more. Which there was still a lot left of in the zone. ANd then when you finally finish the story of the Blood Elves starting zones, you're rewarded with a blue weapon that had an awesome and prestigious design compared to other blues in other zones of the same level range. And the best part of it all. It was only the beginning. You arrive in org and talk to thrall. And he hears your people's story and finishes his response with "Welcome to the Horde, Elf." Ouch. But it made you want to aspire to greater things reachable through the horde. It correctly introduced the game. And i loved every moment. Even dying a ton from the murlocs on that long shore in ghostlands
Duskwood, omg. I can still remember the quest you get in Redridge Mountains, to go to Darkshire in Duskwood. The text in the quest really builds up an eerie atmosphere, ending with: "You must exercise extreme caution. Ebonlocke is the mayor of Darkshire, in the heart of Duskwood. _Do not stray from the roads._" ahhh..... :) I remember being actually a little frightened while walking on the road, looking left and right into the dark woods, thinking, why did he say that, what's out there!?
I miss old Ashenvale. We'll take back Silverwind one day. I too am a Night elf-phile. My favourite questing zone was Darkshore. I remember spending the most time there when I was a low level player because I made a Hunter to level 20, then rerolled to a warrior and stuck with that until now. I joined early Wrath and remember Blood Elf Deathknights coming in and randomly killing NPCs and players.
I would say Wetlands is one of my favorites I remember going there on my first character and it was where I felt the world really opened up after being in Westfall and red ridge for so long
i think the darrowshire quest is still available somewhere along the fiona caravan quest line not entirely sure though. also if you haven't i suggest you check out cranius's song called Darrowshire :)
Godbear Gaming Yeah, it's still available but there have been some minor changes made to it. Not as much traveling and it doesn't require the murderous trips to Andorhal where you'll end up getting killed by elite undead. Haha. And yes, I love all of Cranius' songs. :)
Matt Wilson I actually do have a Patreon, but I've never bothered to set it up 100%. However, I do have a "support the channel" Paypal button on my channel's banner though. Maybe someday I'll finish my Patreon page. :)
GREAT choices here, you mentioned nearly all my favorites and remembered some fantastic parts. I was so glad you mentioned Stitches lol. My first experience with him, was as a new player and it was terrifying! Fantastic video, thank you.
As far as nostalgia goes, this is a missed version of WoW.. but honestly, i must congratulate Blizz for the whole lead-up to Legion these days. The pre-patch was fantastic.
This was really fun to listen to! As a 7th grade girl entering the World of Warcraft for my first time back in Vanilla WoW, my fondest memories come from Teldrassil. As a nature lover, I was in awe of the lush and magical aura of the Night Elves' home. One thing about Blizzard is that they can create beautiful digital places that people feel real nostalgia for, even though it's not real. Pretty cool.
You can actually still do the Pamela's Doll Quest/Darrowshire quest chain, though it is no longer a raid group quest. It is pretty much the same, though some of the NPC's you talk to are different and there are a few more quests in the chain.
I remember my first time in Tirisfal Glades, it was the place where Wow first stuck for me. I started trying to get into wow as a human warlock and a blood elf hunter (the blood elf starting zone was nice, but it didn't really grab me). Suddenly upon starting as an undead priest, I got the most immersive experience I've had at the start of a game. I immediately matched how my character would have felt as I asked, "where am I?","dunno","why am I here?","don't care". I began by following the quest markers and realized that a lot of the undead here seem to share my opinions. After meeting sylvanis, I felt that she was the only leader that treated me as an equal rather than a postman.
What are your thoughts on Westfall and Dun Morogh? Those would be my two favorite that you didn't have, Westfall because it's one of those zones where you make your first friends and it has a lot of great memorable quests with lots of exp, and Dun Morogh because it's one of the most immersive and cozy zones that has a lot of detail put into it and is overall a great introduction to the World of Warcraft.
TheSilentStorm I remember when the first time i saw the Defia brotherhood in westfall i thought they where the coolest shit ever i got all of their gear and i rp as them
As an Alliance player, I loved the old Westfall, but I like the new questlines leading to the Deadmines almost as much. I remember how hard Defias Pillagers' Fireballs would hit my human mage. Good times!
TheSilentStorm Westfall was my favorite too. If you rolled a night elf, once you were done questing at Teldrassil and hit about level 10, you took that boat out of Ashenvale to Menethil Harbor, walk through Wetlands, avoiding mobs best you could (which was impossible in Wetlands, since the road went through the swamp and had mobs literally ON it rather than away from it like in other areas), go through Loch Modan, Dun Morough, get to Ironforge, take the tram to Stormwind, go through Elwyn Forest ALL TO GET TO WESTFALL AND QUEST THERE AT 10! And you know why? Because of VC (Deadmines) - on the alliance side, that was the first instance you could get to. I also love how the music in Westfall has progressed in Cataclysm, it's similar, yet more dramatic, making it both - nostalgic and mature at the same time. Don't even know how to describe it, it's like hearing your favorite lullaby become an epic orchestra.
Tirisfal Glades was always my favorite. I'm a lover of the Forsaken.. I enjoy their lore, the history, and the general sense of simply not belonging when I play an undead. Ain't nobody wanna see no Forsaken Fire Mage no more. I didn't start my WoW career there, but I fell in love with Tirisfal.. and even Silverpine Forest. HOWEVER, I do feel that the old Thousand Needles deserves an honorable mention. It was a very dangerous zone, for me at least.. since I always ran casters.. I remember the elevator, and my first duels at the tops of the elevator. I remember jumping off numerous times, sometimes for hours. Thousand Needles is home to my first honorable kill. It's simply one of my personal favorites.
WoW, so much nostalgia... I am happy that I stopped playing after BC, WoTLK was pretty good too, but TBH, Classic Vanilla WoW was the best game ever, it was so mysterious and... I don't know I just don't like what WoW evolved to.. As for my top 3 favourite zones (EK/Kalimdor): EK: -Westfall (Alliance)/Silverpine Forest (Horde) -The Hinterlands -STV Kalimdor: -Barrens -Tanaris -Winterspring Of course I agree about the epicness of Tirisfal Glades and The Undercity, where you can see the tomb of Arthas father + the entrance where you can hear the bells which remind you of the return of Arthas in W3, when he killed his father. The instances and raid were epic aswell, I still like WoW, because it's perfect MMO with rich history aaaand yeah I will probably return one day :D
LastWonderland Why does "I am so happy I stopped playing after BC" and "TBH, Classic Vanilla WoW was the best game ever", sound so much like "I am sure glad I stopped driving cars after the invention of the Model-T Ford... no other car could possibly be as good a Model-T". Just seems odd to discount later expansions when by one's own admittance, they haven't even played them.
Mithrennon of Aegwynn Oh my friends played them, and they were the ones that got me started in vanilla. I don't know what is fords model T, since I am from europe, but I love cars! Cheers!
I personally always loved the Eversong woods (starting location for belfs). I remember how amazed I was when I saw the Dead scar for the first time, this was so sad to see such a beautiful land torn apart by Arthas's army. Quests were also interesting. I also love Teldrassil but that is more because of nostalgia (my first char was nelf), was awesome to see giant Ancients like in WC3 :)
I started playing during cataclysm. I've still never been to half of these zones, god this game is so much. Started classic last week level 11 right now absolutely psyched. someone ran up to me yesterday,They told me it was their first day and offered to quest w me. Had to go to work sadly. Thanks for making this back then !
I like all of the forest zones in general, Elwynn Forest, Duskwood, Teldrassil, Silverpine Forest and Hinterlands and Winterspring are the best! I love Hillsbrad Foothills because of the cozy forest music, the snowy atmosphere, and the overall sad feeling it gives me. I always have to go visit the memorial of Anthony Ray Stark when I go there.

My top Vanilla zones: 10. Dun Morough (love snowy places) 9. Elwynn Forest (I first started with a human to get a feel for the game so I'm nostalgic for this one) 8. Desolace (the emptyness and wastelands made this zone mysterious) 7. Silithus (the ingame zone itself kinda sucks in playing through it, but it's the lore of the Silithid/Qiraji that I love) 6. Duskwood (2spooky) 5. Tirisfal Glades (3spooky) 4. Barrens (never forget Barrens Chat!) 3. Thousand Needles (fuck you DW and Blizz, you ruined it completely) 2. Winterspring (kind of empty zone especially for Horde, but simply beautiful) 1. Eastern Plaguelands
When I started playing WoW, it was slowly going to the end of WotlK. Man, I am so happy I was able to see all those old zones before cataclysm hit! I am still missing the old flair of the zones
when i first saw undercity in tirisfal glades i was like OMFG THIS IS LORDERON WHERE ARTHAS AND MEDIEV WERE FROM THE WC3 CINEMATICS ( yeah i played all of it before coming to wow)
I too have fond memories of Stranglethorn, Tanaris, and EPL. I also liked Western Plaguelands. Slaying Welcome Bears, wrecking cauldrons, and best of all... trying to get Tirion Fordring's son to come home. That was one of my favorite quest lines ever. And while the Cataclysm shook up many places, the Western Plaguelands have managed to change for the better thanks to our efforts.
All of those zones are great and it was fun to think back to the first time I saw them. But I think the zone that I loved the most was Un'Goro Crater. It was like venturing into a forgotten wilderness. The only civilization is a trapped caravan. Giant angry lizards everywhere that seem to have always come out of no where. Then you also have the Zelda quest. To this day one of my favorite quests. Never mind the fact it took you a lifetime and a fortune to complete. The only quest that compared to it was the paladin charger quest. Great video please keep em coming!
Silverpine Forest was my absolute favorite questing zone. First character I made was Undead, and I got a feel for the starting zones. Love the gloomy setting and I have some great memories.
Go to Vengeance WoW! It's a BC realm but lots of Nost folks there. :) Added bonus is you can choose a PVP or PVE server... So far minus it not having Stitches the low level questing has been so good as far as scripting and bugs and whatnot, a few things here and there but one of the better performing servers I've been on.
Tirisfal glades is the best. Totally agree, questing under the rain and the music was incredible. I remember Entering UC for the first time and realizing that I was hooked.
I knew Tirisfal Glades had to be your favorite leveling zone of all time. You are just so in love with it, as am I. It was our very first zone to level in.
Yes, yes to that number one, just yes. I can still remember the HELL of the time I had try to complete the Agaman Mills quests, or the first time I stumbled across the Scarlet Monastery and its elite mobs, and then just walking into the Ruins of Capital City, seeing... everything. I'd been a Scourge fan since WC3, and to just... SEE that path... It was a hell of a thing. It was... amazing.
I really loved Wetlands, Loch Modan, Dun Morough, and all those cozy zones in that area. I remember back in late vanilla/early BC when I first started playing, me and my brother began our WoW adventures. I made a Night Elf Druid, and my brother made a Human Rogue. We didn't know how far away our starting zones were and how hard it'd be to play together, so my bro and I decided to simply walk, zone to zone, until one of us got to the other person's starting zone. We had no mounts, we reached around lvl 10 just from exploring exp, and it really felt like a long and arduous journey, trekking through the mountains between Loch Modan and Wetlands through the tunnel passes, avoiding level 20 murlocs, orc bandits, etc that appeared along the way, and travelling by many boats & trams just to reach our destination. When we wanted to go back to Stormwind or Teldrassil, we'd walk together after that day, and even avoided getting ganked a few times. When we first saw the huge statues in LM right at the gates to Searing Gorge (which we tried to enter, which also led us to badlands in search of other ways into that the Gorge) , it was an amazing feeling seeing all that cool stuff. I remember hearing how this journey was memorable for a lot of other players too, which makes it even more awesome. But now with flying mounts on Azeroth, the spirit of such a journey is gone because any destination can be reached in under 5-10 min flat. I mean, I sometimes walk there on that same druid who is now my level capped main, but the true magic of that zone-wide hike, with the sense of exploration, all to reach a destination that felt miles away was magic that will only continue to exist in pre-cata WoW, and in my fond memories of Vanilla. However, me and my bro did travel around all of Pandaria trying to get into the Vale once MoP launched, the magic of exploration came back for a time during those moments. But I digress, I also enjoyed Westfall for questing to level 20 with my brother, where I finally got my Cat form as a Druid, and we discovered those rogue-only Defias Masks that looked super cool to wear. I remember running Deadmines for the first time and actually feeling scared to death of the dungeon, I had never been in one before, and the environment/atmosphere of DM actually frightened me and had me shivering. I ended up hearthin back to Dolanaar before the last boss. Good times.
I would give ANYTHING to experience Wow for the first time again! Such memories. I will never forget Darkshore when I got there as a complete noob. So nostalgic...
ALL OF THESE CHOICES WERE SO GOOD!: played on a private server up to 60 and omg these zones brought back so much awesome memories, especially getting ganked by orcs in STV as i was a little Gnome warrior, and ofc fucking stitches!!!!!
Another two favourites of mine are Redridge because i kept getting ganked by the blackrock orcs behind a....rock. Makes sense. And also Un'goro Crater, damn that place was good! I remember seeing those huge DInorsaur elites, i crapped myself several times as i got mauled by them xD
uD Pulsey I really don't think its possible man, WoW vanilla came out in november 2004, BC in 2007 so you would have been between 1 and 4 years old if you really played anything "In Vanilla". Though you could have experienced some vanilla content in BC that is still slightly different.
Totally agree with your number 1 choice. Seeing the Throne room in the ruins of Lordaeron was so very nostalgic after playing WC 3 and WC 3 Frozen Throne
I just recently started playing on a private vanilla server and MAN is it great =D the nostalgia and the memories, not to mention the music and atmosphere is just as great as it was back in 2006, when i first started my first Tauren druid =D. If you want to relive this game, you can! and you should =P
+TheDawg475 Hey, I got that exact feeling! Been looking up WoW videos lately, and got really nostalgic. How do you find servers these days? Btw, do you play on a regular xp server or fun server?
+Sorin Vasile Bogdan I just searched "vanilla wow servers" on google one day and found a server called " Vanilla Server PVP " and it has 2x XP earned. Complete with its own Client and torrent download ( Vanilla WoW is around 6Gigs ) =).
my favorite questing zone would have to be Uldum sure its not a vanilla zone but still love the quests and two of the dungeons and the fact that you start out in a dungeon is just awesome
I am so sad that I wasn't able to play back in Vanilla,it sounded so much fun...now all the zones are just tedious kill and collect quest WHICH I HATE!!
One of my favorite things to do in wow, is take one of my max toons, and go back to a vanilla area, and just run. I'll get on a simple mount, and I'll hike around the mountains, and just run! I love getting to see secret areas and beautiful zones I haven't seen in a while
What I liked about Vanilla leveling zones it that each zone had a different problem, everything was not about that one dude at the end of the expansion. And it made you feel like an adventurer, not a 'hero' that you're considered to be now.
Oh god. Agamand Family Crypt.
*Vietnam flashbacks.*
Othorious Nam ain't tough shit compared to Mand.
Muted Redead I love the smell of napalm in the morning, smells like victory.
Morec0 Made my day. Died more times than I can count to get that stupid staff for my mage. They should've marked it as group quest.
Heh, I remember doing that with a PRIEST goddamn, a freaking priest, one of the most horrible classes to grind shit in solo back in vanilla, especially in its first levels. Such an unbelivable nightmare.
EmeraldCrusade Napalm Sticks to kids! (look it up)
My favorite questing zone is the Night Elf start zone, Teldrassil. Thats where I started the my whole WoW career. The atmosphere, the music, the colors, its just so memorable. I loved that place.
Ohh 1 magyar :D jöhetnél nostalriusra Nixxiom is tolja most ott, új vanilla szero.
I remember that was the first zone i saw before i even played wow and when i did. That's of course where i started. And holy shit was it such a massive place compared to anywhere in the previous mmo i play which was runescape at the time
goblinfing kettő. silvermoon alli.
Győri Sándor Same feeling here too, Teldrassil and all Night Elf questing zones was realy climatic...
***** I started with a hunter too :D
It wasn't the quests in ashenvale that turned me off
it was all the fucking purple
the trees were purple
the people were purple
the building were purple
even the green grass somehow looked fucking purple
+Nacalal I Love how it looks
+Nacalal Can't get any worse than Teldrasil or Duskwood 😐
+TheGutterSpeakGamer Duskwood was awesome back then. The long quest lines were some of the best I've ever done when levelling. All nerfed now...
+Lee Anthony I agree, Duskwood was awesome, so was Ashenvale before cata.
Obama bin laden I think you mean Osama 😂
Man, thinking back.. Am I crazy for thinking that 1-60 was just more fun back then?
Maybe fun isn't the right word to use.. interesting? exciting? I'm not really sure what it was that made the old world what it was. But I do miss it.
Anyway, I'm not going to go too far down that road. My favorite vanilla zone has to be Westfall. Can't really explain why, but that's one zone I never skipped when leveling.
I remember ganking kids by tarren mill. Good times.
Whithbrin355 I personally prefer the old questing system for 1-60 WAY more than how Blizzard does quests today. I enjoyed all the traveling and randomness.
Nixxiom Machinima Yeah, I feel pretty much the same way. It felt like there was a lot more adventure to questing back then.
Nixxiom Machinima Yeah everything is so linear now. It's really taken out the sense of exploration.
Nixxiom Machinima Why not go to a private server there is one right now with 5k people and it's really hard to find a bugged quest also there is no lag
Westfall was always one of my top favs. Just loved the ambiance of the zone, and always thought the deadmines was a pretty fun beginner instance.
Greg Bourquin Not to mention that in the end there is a civil war starting with the Defias
Greg Bourquin And let's not forget the boars missing livers.
Greg Bourquin and the bandana grind as a rogue
+Greg Bourquin and the defias pillager 80 damage fireballs
Easily the best instance. Based on The Goonies movie.
I really liked Thousand Needles, Pre-Cata. I still remember buying ice cream from the gnome at the race track.
This nostalgia bombed me so damn hard :) Super tempted to hop on a vanilla private server!
BellularGaming
Do it and post it on your channel please!! PLEASE!! THE NOSTALGIA, IT BUURNS!!!!!
Seriously, i'd love that. If you channel grows a bit larger, you might be able to host your own.
PLEASE.
BellularGaming Ikr I wanna go in one soo bad but I dont want to get banned
Jean Paul Blanchette Go ahead and play on one. There is no way for Blizzard to know unless you say you do and/or publicly advertise it in spaces that they monitor/own.
+BellularGaming :B
are you going to play classic?
For the Horde!
1: The Barrens
2: Hillsbrad Foothills
3: Ashenvale
4: Tanaris
5: Stranglethorn Vale
6: Arathi Highlands
7: Feralas
8: Desolace
9: Felwood
10: Thousand Needles
arathi highlands? really? why?
barrens sucks,
Hurry up man!" ... like some nasty stuff you have to do in order to finally enjoy the game.
took almost 6 months for me to get 1-60
+lupina015 yup hence why people have so many leveling memories from back then. My fave has to be seeing a mass of lowbies band together to kill a level 60 ganker. Oh god it was hilarious, we called ourselves the Crossroads Militia XD
carolasmx HAHAHA yes xD I also have a TON of such memories ^^ We killed the elite soilders at Warsong entrance in Ashevale ... we felt like kings when we got one down xD
lupina015 dude elites were no joke, the lulz from when people pulled them thinking they were regular mobs lol
carolasmx lol, yes
Hinterlands. You can never go wrong with forested mountain valleys, gryphons, and a dwarf city nestled against the far peak
man i remember the first time heading there as a undead noob rogue, seeing a opening between hills.. trying to stealth past the high level gryphons flying.. got murdered by them both. was so excited when i was high enough level to slash those birds and explore that area.
I do kinda miss the occasional creatures that can just take you apart. From elites and leveling in classic to wandering fel reavers and storm giants
I also loved Hinterlands. It was so tucked away and almost entirely dependant on you discovering it at the right time. The quests were super fun and there were a lot of them.
@@marcomeme4875 The troll tower invasion quests are absolutely phenomenal to do, can't wait to do them agian
That huge troll area in the hinterlands. I remember fighting our way to the top of that thing. Man it was great.
I almost agree a 100% with you on the zones, damn nothing can bring that feeling back logging into wow the first time...
Who remembers leveling an Undead in Tirisfal and going up to Scarlet Monastery and getting killed by high level Scarlet Crusades?! :D
Honestly, my favourite Vanilla zone was Elwynn Forest.
It was just... so well designed it hurt. You had the very beginning, helping out Northshire with the Kobold problem in the mines, then you learned of the vineyards and how they were taken over by the Defias. (Which were just plain amazing)
Then after that you headed to Goldshire, which while consisting of only three buildings just blew your mind of how much there was to do there. (At least befoire he was turned into a joke in the Stockades...)
Hell, do you remember your first time to Stormwind in vanilla?
You really speak out of my heart, but I agree to 90% with this list. Just change Loch Modan to Mulgore and I am totally with you.
Mulgore? I don't remember that being good.
Roman Johnson lots of people dont like mulgore but some people like me love it.
ah gotcha.
mulgore!! my least favorite zone. it never took so long 1-6 as in mulgore
I wasn't playing at that time but I can really feel the nostalgia...
Duskwood was my favorite by far, I remember leveling up and seeing this area for the first time.
I always loved questing in Vanilla Darkshore. I loved the little town of Aurbudine to hang out in with friends, so when it was destroyed, I was really sad to lose such a fun questing area
Couldn't agree more about Duskwood, hands down fave alliance questing zone. Loved Searing Gorge as well, had fond memories of Feralas and Felwood, Hinterlands and Western Plaguelands too
Two words - Arathi. Highlands. 1000/10.
Arathi was shit
It's a hard choice between Duskwood and Tirisfal Glades, but I think I have to go with Duskwood. Awesome quests, spooky atmosphere and an incredible sense of exploration that is second to none. Duskwood is probably the only zone that I've NEVER skipped (both Vanilla and every expansion that came after it).
Under 301+ club, somebody give me a sticker
*Places sticker on TheLazyPeon's upper chest* and here's a cookie too
The Germans did that once.......yeah...
you get a Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Breezy's TH-cam Channel did someone say Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
TheLazyPeon THUNDERFURY, BLESSED BLADE OF THE WINDSEEKER!
If you want to experience it you can allways check some vanilla or molten servers.
Where?
Mathais Fabricius Here

Ty for the quick answer :) and the link :D
Mathais Fabricius NP Bro :D
You really hit the jackpot with this video, I totally agree with your choices, wide variety of quests, exploring and tons of fun.
As for my own fave leveling zones, it's a toss up between Tirisfal Glades and Silver Pine (obviously, I'm Horde for Life).
Darkshore. I literally know everything there.
+NoLeCe Darkshore had so much atmosphere back in Vanilla. It was actually somewhat eerie/spooky.
+NoLeCe YES. I loved it. Auberdine was like my favorite place ever.
+AJ Pesonen i'm still mad Blizz destroyed it :( i loved Auberdine!
There should be a petition for this goddamn it.
The text in the quest really builds up an eerie atmosphere, ending with:
"You must exercise extreme caution. Ebonlocke is the mayor of Darkshire, in the heart of Duskwood. _Do not stray from the roads._" ahhh..... :)
I remember being actually a little frightened while walking on the road, looking left and right into the dark woods, thinking, why did he say that, what's out there!?
I miss old Ashenvale. We'll take back Silverwind one day. I too am a Night elf-phile. My favourite questing zone was Darkshore. I remember spending the most time there when I was a low level player because I made a Hunter to level 20, then rerolled to a warrior and stuck with that until now. I joined early Wrath and remember Blood Elf Deathknights coming in and randomly killing NPCs and players.
I would say Wetlands is one of my favorites I remember going there on my first character and it was where I felt the world really opened up after being in Westfall and red ridge for so long
i think the darrowshire quest is still available somewhere along the fiona caravan quest line
not entirely sure though. also if you haven't i suggest you check out cranius's song called Darrowshire :)
+Nixxiom Machinima I only played once in vanilla but sure do miss it and I agree number one is amazing
+Godbear Gaming Cranius is actually working on a new wow song! He said it on facebook!
Hey Nixxiom, I'm really enjoying the diversity of the videos lately. Keep up the great work!
Back then i actually made friends from questing and adding them with O +add friend now all i have are battle net friends who i dont even talk too.
Attila Herrera Yeah, I was gonna say myself, I joined in MoP and I remember doing that question chain as well.
After meeting sylvanis, I felt that she was the only leader that treated me as an equal rather than a postman.
back in the day of being able to kite Stitches all the way to Goldshire, good times
Thousand Needles is my #1 loved it so much, standing under all those pinnacle makes you feel tiny!
Plus, Dun Morogh has the best night music in the game.
***** Very true
Eastern plaguelands is number one for me. Small wonder, given I've had a fascination with the undead for as long as I can remember.
I don't even play wow anymore but I still get really excited when I see a Nixxiom video.
WoW, so much nostalgia... I am happy that I stopped playing after BC, WoTLK was pretty good too, but TBH, Classic Vanilla WoW was the best game ever, it was so mysterious and... I don't know I just don't like what WoW evolved to..
As for my top 3 favourite zones (EK/Kalimdor):
EK:
-Westfall (Alliance)/Silverpine Forest (Horde)
-The Hinterlands
-STV
Kalimdor:
-Barrens
-Tanaris
-Winterspring
Of course I agree about the epicness of Tirisfal Glades and The Undercity, where you can see the tomb of Arthas father + the entrance where you can hear the bells which remind you of the return of Arthas in W3, when he killed his father.
3:28 . I fucking lost it LOL
Gadgetzan, Tanaris, STV, Thousand Needles were easily my favourite
And the Barrens too :P
+BloodGaming Thumbs up for Thousand Needles.
Deep run tram was my favorite :|

victor hurup Screw short links.
lol
Yay! For some reason, your top 10 videos are always the most enjoyable for me to watch.
There are so many memories to those old places, holy shit.
My top Vanilla zones:
10. Dun Morough (love snowy places)
9. Elwynn Forest (I first started with a human to get a feel for the game so I'm nostalgic for this one)
8. Desolace (the emptyness and wastelands made this zone mysterious)
7. Silithus (the ingame zone itself kinda sucks in playing through it, but it's the lore of the Silithid/Qiraji that I love)
6. Duskwood (2spooky)
5. Tirisfal Glades (3spooky)
4. Barrens (never forget Barrens Chat!)
3. Thousand Needles (fuck you DW and Blizz, you ruined it completely)
2. Winterspring (kind of empty zone especially for Horde, but simply beautiful)
1. Eastern Plaguelands
another dude that likes desolace, nice: p
+buldren0101 props for Desolace. Maraudon made that zone so awesome.
+buldren0101 I hate Eastern Plaguelands, i love the lore but i didnt like the zone : /
Carolus Rex I enjoyed that creepy shit: p
+buldren0101 Barrens chat! RIP
We all know why Nixxiom made dis video...#Nostalrius ;)
lol yup my thoughts exactly
All of those zones are great and it was fun to think back to the first time I saw them. But I think the zone that I loved the most was Un'Goro Crater. It was like venturing into a forgotten wilderness. The only civilization is a trapped caravan. Giant angry lizards everywhere that seem to have always come out of no where. Then you also have the Zelda quest. To this day one of my favorite quests. Never mind the fact it took you a lifetime and a fortune to complete. The only quest that compared to it was the paladin charger quest. Great video please keep em coming!
Winterspring is love Winterspring is life
Silverpine Forest was my absolute favorite questing zone. First character I made was Undead, and I got a feel for the starting zones. Love the gloomy setting and I have some great memories.
Man now i miss nostalrius even more :(
Blizzard had to screw everything up.
Go play Excalibur. its a bc server so its all still there. And if you were in the endgame it picks up right where you left off.
Charlie Looney Why does it have 2x XP and Money rates :/
pretty sure that stuff is optional
Go to Vengeance WoW! It's a BC realm but lots of Nost folks there. :) Added bonus is you can choose a PVP or PVE server... So far minus it not having Stitches the low level questing has been so good as far as scripting and bugs and whatnot, a few things here and there but one of the better performing servers I've been on.
Tirisfal glades is the best. Totally agree, questing under the rain and the music was incredible. I remember Entering UC for the first time and realizing that I was hooked.
My number 1 westfall
I knew Tirisfal Glades had to be your favorite leveling zone of all time. You are just so in love with it, as am I. It was our very first zone to level in.
ooomg Tirisfal Glades is my favorite too
8:39 STV bring back sooo many memories. I used to do alot of RP there back in the day with my hunter. Ahh the memories.
I wish blizz would make servers with vanilla, bc, wotlk, etc. content only. Like, get on that lol
Bro I got some good news for you
Yes, yes to that number one, just yes.
It was... amazing.
Not enough Arthas
Colin Kochakian What are you Arthasing about?
Such Arthas Much Arthas
There is enough Arthas and it's pretty Arthas
Bledarag are you talking about arthas? because if you are, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to arthas your arthas
Corypheus If you are goin to Arthas him i will Arthas your Arthas in the Arthas you Arthasing Arthas
Good times.
Those weren't kobolds in Loch Modan, they were troggs.
there are both kobolds and troggs in Loch Modan, he just happened to show troggs at that time. xD
Im 13 and I played vanilla and remember when echo isles was hard af with tigers and trolls that took forever to kill
You're 13 now, or you were 13 then? Because if you're 13 now you would have been what, 1 back in vanilla? Little young for video games.
+Lifeless9619 im 13 now yh i was way too young
uD Pulsey I really don't think its possible man, WoW vanilla came out in november 2004, BC in 2007 so you would have been between 1 and 4 years old if you really played anything "In Vanilla".
+TheDawg475 Play on nostalrius for true vanilla experience!!
too bad playing on private servers is illegal...
Tim Popovich Not illegal to play on them. Illegal to host them!
my favorite questing zone would have to be Uldum sure its not a vanilla zone but still love the quests and two of the dungeons and the fact that you start out in a dungeon is just awesome
Ashenvale, loved to explore it back in the day. That music hits the nostalgia button hard
thousand needles all day then barrens
the best part of duskwood was walking over that hill into twilight grove and seeing a big ass level 60 dragon walking around.
I am so sad that I wasn't able to play back in Vanilla,it sounded so much fun...now all the zones are just tedious kill and collect quest WHICH I HATE!!
Adrijano Carter Cool
now ypu have a chance ! prepare your weapons!
One of my favorite things to do in wow, is take one of my max toons, and go back to a vanilla area, and just run. I'll get on a simple mount, and I'll hike around the mountains, and just run! I love getting to see secret areas and beautiful zones I haven't seen in a while
Silithus ? :(
I didnt even know anyone liked Silithus...
