Thank you coach Julia! I am a beginner ice skater at age 39 and Im dreaming of one day be able to spin on the ice 😁 I watch all your videos and they help me so much.
I discovered these on my own as a young skater growing up and just did them for fun. It's cool to see they have an official name now and are part of the figure skating repertoire.
Thank you for this video. Twizzles is one thing I need to get better at. Your demonstration explains the move better than any other instructional video I’ve seen on TH-cam.
I discovered your videos a week ago having started skating at the age of 42 a few years ago. Im absolutely loving your style of explaining things, how you break it all down so clearly and tell us exactly which part of the blade to use. I can’t wait to try out twizzles again now after watching this.
Three turns are pretty old, they have been around since the 1800s at least. Twizzles are new enough that I only learned them in the past 10 years as a coach, No one was doing them when I was skating in my younger years.
So interesting that the idea of a continuous 3 turn was there waiting to be discovered. What is history of scratch spin or spin on full blade? Not sure of the terminology, I study skating for hockey. Figure skating is incredibly useful and I have learnt a lot from your videos.
I've been working at skating for pretty much a year now and my coach never introduced me to these...and I'm working on axel...so thank you for this, it's really helpful
It feels like a new experience watching your videos after your last announcement, I'm noticing all of the little behind the scenes things you mentioned 😁
Hi my Dear Coach, I thank you to teach us TWIZZLES. You teach me all I know today. And I’m gonna make this gift that we have chance to learn because of Your passion, forgive me for my English Mistakes. And so many thanks to be who you are. I will tell you my 2 hours on ice to make this ice dancing figure. Send you my Dancer Heart 🌬🤍⛸
I knew you’d have me one day 😭😭😭😭 I’ve been wanting to learn these for agessss I was waiting for this tutorial!!!! (Only to just realize I needed those back 3 turns too omggg 💔💔💔💔)
I have a love-hate relationship with twizzles, they're so cool and I want to be able to do them but damn they're kinda terrifying to attempt, I'm still working on it. I find it hard to keep traveling straight, I keep making the curve too sharp. Practice, practice... 😅
I definitely feel that love hate relationship as well. They are such a challenge! I never had to learn them when I was younger because no one was even doing them yet! I only started learning them in the past 10 years as a coach!
A lot of it is mindset, because if you really think about it, they are not really terrifying, but just unfamiliar. One day they will become familiar. And easy.
4:30 I learned twizzles. But I didn't know exactly which part of the blade to use. I was always confused. Thank you very much for the detailed explanation. Also, 4:54, 5:43 I'm very grateful for this.
Your comment about keeping your shoulder leading in the direction of the turn is the thing I was missing. I am currently recovering from major back surgery but can hardly wait to get back on the ice. Thanks.
wow! I've been waiting for this video! Thanks! I'm training inline skating so techique of twizzles is tottaly different :'D but soon ice season stars so i will be able to work on them
Julia congrats on the engagement! Thank you for taking time to make these videos, they are more helpful than you can imagine! I am finally getting back on the ice after about a 15yr break and in my early 30s realizing my body doesn't do what my brain remembers how to do. You have been my online coach without even knowing and have made me feel comfortable learning this all over again. Also, I'm loving your ice skating pants, what brand are they? Looking for some new skating clothes that I don't have to keep pulling up but that also fit over my skate, thanks!

Hi Coach! :) I recently moved to a Gold Seal profile blade. The blade under the ball of the foot is now flatter, because I previously practised on a Pattern 99 profile blade, where it had a longer spinning rocker (12 and 27). What is your tip on twizzling on a Gold Seal profile blade?
hi! I’m still a minor and my skating classes are 200 dollars through the 8 week period? Do you have any tips, and do you know what basics I learn throughout this semester! Thank you for this video!
@@CoachJulia @Coach Julia Thank you! I really appreciate how well you teach basic skills in your videos. I'd like to see some videos for off-ice exercises that help with the on-ice skills, especially exercises for balance and strengthening that don't require going to a gym. As an elderly beginner (>60 years old), some off-ice skill building would help me feel more confident when I'm learning the more advanced skills on the ice. Group adult lessons start again today for us. I started seriously taking figure skating lessons in 2019. I invested in heat-molded Jackson Elle skates because none of the beginner skates fit my feet. These pro shop fitted skates make it feel like the blades are part of my feet. Having boots that don't hurt makes a huge difference in acquiring new skills. For anyone who hasn't watched your videos about skates and how pro shops can help you, I recommend spending a few minutes watching those older uploads. However, after 18 months off the ice, I'm sure that it will feel like I've never skated before when I step on the rink. I had just barely passed Basic 4 when the pandemic shut down our rinks. When the ice rinks weren't available, I tried in-line skating (waited 2 months for skates & wheels designed for asphalt), but in-line skating is really not the same as gliding and working the skates on the ice, not at all. Pond skating wasn't great for practicing any of the finer, detail skills because the ice was so poor. I was still a lot of fun to glide on ice with the cold air on my face. Too bad it rained so much, though!
Hi Coach Julia! I've just started lessons and am making my way through all of your skating videos and they've been AMAZING. I'm having issues with my spins+3turns where my bottom-most toepick is scraping the ice whenever I turn. Do you have any advice/drills so I can work on this? I know it's bad form, but I don't know what to do! Info: I didn't have this issue on the rink's rental skates, but have always had it on my own pair. The blade is already as far up the boot as it can go though, so I think it's just me :/
It sounds like you are leaning too far forward when you are skating, and putting your weight by your toe. I had the same issue when I moved from rental skates to figure skates.
hello! thank you for your amazing content. I started ice skating at the age of 22 (like last 3 months) and I am struggling mentally because I cannot pin down two foot turn and one foot glide (even after watching the videos countless times) if you can provide any sort of motivation or exercises that would be super helpful. thank you for your time.
I’m a new adult skater too, and I really struggled with two foot turns too. I worked a lot on bending, rising, and bending my knees, so eventually I could turn during the “rising”. All about the upper body and using the rocker, or the rounded part of the blade (at least for me). For one foot glides, really make sure your skates and blades are properly aligned!! I really struggled with them until I got my blades professionally aligned (they actually had to be mounted closer to the inside part of my foot rather than “perfectly centered” because my arches roll in to the middle a bit). Anyways, it really took away the “work” of one foot glides and then I was able to just focus on using my abs to keep me balanced. Not sure if any of that will help but I wanted to at least share my experience!
@@JillianBarnowsky I really appreciate the fact that you have taken time out of your day to help out! I live in a place where we can only buy skates through Amazon so I’m holding off until I get a hang of these both before I make the commitment. Doing these in rental is so hard as I feel they are clunkier with less stability! I will work on my bend rise bend and one foot balance off ice and see how that works! It’s just super frustrating you know? I’m glad I’m not alone in this and you can master it! I appreciate your help a lot thank you! Wishing you best
if you like skating don’t wait to buy your own pair, you won’t progress in rentals. you also need a coach, who will recommend you what skates you need.

Very well explained Julia. I did not know twizzles were so new, invented in 1990. When were three turns invented?

Thank you for some more new skills to work on...good to see you again, and with your bling😉!
Thank you! 😊
Thank you! I stuggle a lot with these!
I for no reason always thought that the pattern on the ice would be little loops and not the threeturn shape!
I can see why you would think that! But then it would just be kind of a traveling spin wouldn't it? 😆
never had it explained to me like this, I expect this info to be the game changer, thank you
I am so glad I could get you a little more info on this skill.
Thanks couch Julia you explain things so well we need more Julia's in the skating world 👌
Awe, that's so sweet. Thanks!

I haven't made that one yet, but thanks for the reminder!! I need to get to that!
Tonight I will follow your rules and improve my twizzlers
I hope it goes well!!
I really enjoyed this video! Hopefully I’ll be able to do it on the ice!
Same, I always imagine myself doing it in my head but it never works out how I planned on the ice 😅
It will take practice, but like most skating moves, if you keep working at it, and refining your technique, you will be able to get it.
That can be so frustrating! Keep practicing!
