    Hey guys, these are my tips on the most common mistakes I've observed animators making in my ten years experience working in the industry, and ways to avoid or remedy them. Let me know if there are any other super common mistakes you've noticed animators making that you think are worth shining a light on!

      @@pulseworkssa You know, you are so right, I literally recorded a whole section on arcs, but ended up cutting it out, simply because it's one of the 12 basic principles and I wanted to focus on things that aren't part of the 12 principles. I totally agree with you though, it's a major one!

      @@FriedFrogLegsAnimations I'm really sorry, but I get so many people asking me to watch their animations and give them feedback, I just don't have time to do it for everyone. But if you join animation groups on Facebook or Reddit and post your animations there, people will give you feedback and it will help you get better.

    Interesting points. One point that stood out was "tweening". When I started animating on a computer, I came across a lesser known software that introduced me to a completely different definition of tweening, which later evolved into more commonly used terms. Overall, I enjoyed the video.

    • @RobynO_O
      @RobynO_O  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, tweening is a big one that a lot of new animators get wrong - and they either don't have enough tweens, or they overtween! What was the software that you came across called?

    as all rules of anything, purposefully breaking them can be great when done properly. for example some cases of twinning can be good, like in a robotic-moving character, where in-context it makes sense for their movements to twin. same as offset, a robotic character with a exaggerated leg/waist/torso separation like a ball joint or something obvious could allow this to contextually work, as the whole torso might swivel around at once.

      @@animeshons You can track your arcs on an overlay layer to make sure limbs don't shrink or grow os they go thrgouht their movements, and it can also help to plot out your key poses on one sheet of paper or layer to make sure you're maintaining volume between those poses, as it's much easier to see when they're all there on one layer, before putting them on their own frames and doing the inbetweens

    do humans not blink both eyes at the same time... just curious...

    • @RobynO_O
      @RobynO_O  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      usually any movement we do that *could* be symmetrical is slightly offset, because humans are never actually perfectly symmetrical. some muscles are stronger than their equivalent muscles on the other side of the body. So one eyelid might raise slightly quicker than the other. Obviously no rules apply to every single situation, but it can help sometimes to offset blinks very very slightly. It's good to avoid twinning. But again, no rule applies to every single situation, it's up to the animator to decide what's appropriate

    • @RobynO_O
      @RobynO_O  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@musicentertainer7991 the thing is it depends on how dedicated you are to improving enough to get a job. It's not an easy job and takes a lot of practice. If you're good at it, you'll get a job eventually, but it may take a while o get to that level and you'll need to practice a lot and have a good showreel. A lot of people find it too difficult and give up. Motion graphics is easier to get a job in than, say, 3d or 2d animation.

    • @musicentertainer7991
      @musicentertainer7991 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobynO_O I thought motion graphics is the same as 2d and 3D? I’m confused.

    • @RobynO_O
      @RobynO_O  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@musicentertainer7991 Motion graphics can incorporate 3d or 2d animation elements but 3d and 2d animation and motion graphics are considered different disciplines under the umbrella term of "animation". It's basically animated graphic design, with a lot of text and icon/symbol elements. Motion Graphics doesn't usually involve character animation, and if it does involve a character, it's not complex character animation. When people refer to 3d animation or 2d animation, they're usually referring to either 3d animation, usually of characters, with all or at least majority 3d assets, or with 2d, it's strictly 2 dimensional elements and usually characters, sometimes animated with rigs and sometimes animated frame by frame.
