I definitely will read more this year than all the previous ones because of booktube💪 I never knew what to read and I could only read in my first language, which obviously isn't English, and there weren't that many people in my class that like to read so I couldn't really get recommendations about what to read. Now I can comfortably read in English and it doesn't take more time at all to read in English, which is good :D I've already read 5 books this month, never thought that this was possible😊

First, Song of Achilles is AWESOME! A soft, sun-kissed, Ancient Greek mxm romance? Um, YEEEESSS! If you like Miller's writing style it will break your heart in the most beautiful ways. I reread it last year (2018) and just...*sobs tears of joy and heartache simultaneously because that is what Madeline Miller does to me and is what she deserves*
Second, If We Were Villains is GREAT, GREAT, GREAT! I'm not huge into Shakespeare, but I am a theater kid and OMG this book hit me hard with its theater-kid-realness. M. L. Rio knows what she is talking about. Plus, the story is set-up in the person narrating their life story to someone else trope, which I love and adore. Ya can't go wrong.
Third, Jane Steele is Goodness. I liked Jane Eyre so I wasn't sure if a retelling/reimagining would work for me, but it did. A Jane who fangirls over Jane Eyre AND kills asshole dudes? All about it.
Lastly, I have no idea what I'm most looking forward to reading this year. I feel like I have a similar problem where I put off reading books too long and then I lose interest in them and then I finally do pick them up and I'm like EH *shrug*. I think I'm gonna try and be better about reading books while I'm interested in them and not waiting! 2019, the Year of No More Waiting!
BTW you're amazing and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to watch your vids. I'm always so happy to see your thumbnails pop up in my sub feed!

I got so excited when you said you’re going to read Everything I Never Told You! It’s probably one of the most underrated books I’ve ever read and I absolutely adored it. I usually don’t read contemporaries (I’m a fantasy reader) but I remember being absolutely hooked on the story and literally reading it the chance I get (I remember literally reading it while I was walking to class and my friends had to stop me from walking into the wall multiple times). I remember being so hooked in the book that when certain things happened, I legit screamed “NO” and I was in the library at that time, heheh. 😬
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have!

Walter Moers is one of my absolute favorite authors! I am from Austria so I don't know about the translation, but his books are so special!! There is nothing comparable to them. "The city of dreaming books" was the first of his books that I read and it made me fell in love with the world!

I figure since Eragon is the Booksplosion BotM I should probably pick it up again lol

For All the Birds in the Sky, I think it could really help with your fantasy-type plot burn out. This is one of the only books I've read where the /exciting plot/ takes a back seat, and the story itself is character-driven, and it's done well. This is one of my favorites of all time 😊

The City of Dreaming Books is really good and I think you are going to enjoy it. However, the only thing that it indeed has in common with Shadow of the Wind is the fact that it is somewhat based around the idea of books itself. CoDB is one of the weirdest works I have ever read, its protagonist is a dinosaur with a ridiculous name (in the best way possible), there are newly invented mythical creatures, it has various innuendos to classical German literature (e.g. Goethe) and it almost bursts of abundant imagination. You said you are hoping to find a book that feels magical without containing actual magic. City of Dreaming Books belongs by no means to the mysterious, dark magical realism Shadow of the Wind does. It's more a high fantasy in a world entirely built on books and literature. A bookdom if you so will. Being German myself I read the non-translated version but I have heard Brownjohn did an amazing job in capturing the essence of the mood it transports. As I mentioned before, I believe you will thoroughly enjoy it but I don't want you to be disappointed by going in, expecting something entirely different from what you're about to encounter.
Love you and, by the way, you look radiant!

I also didn't like Shatter Me, but I was determined to like Tahereh Mafi, and was happy to find that I've enjoyed everything else she's written outside of the Shatter Me series.

If We Were Villains actually takes place at a prestigious arts college / university and the main characters are training to be shakespearean actors. The author actually has a masters degree in Shakespeare Studies, the format of the book, the story, the characters, the dialouge - everything is reminiscent of that. I love that book with all my heart and I really hope you will too 😇😇😇😇

Another good adult sci-fi writer is Karen Lord. Her books are always unusual, very much in the African style of story-telling rather than rigid American 3-act structures. But The Best of All Possible Worlds is a book that will stick with you, and Redemption in Indigo is just lovely.

The City of dreaming books is one of my all time favorite books! 😍And Walter Moers is, in my opinion, just a genius. I think it's incredible that just one man created a world like that. I hope it's as good in English as in German. I'm looking forward for your opinion. 😊

I just finished the Gilded Wolves and loved it, it definetly feels more like a treasure hunt than a heist and you can see the similarities to Six of Crows but it is also quite different - I'd say it is softer (less dark and gritty) and more whimisical but the characters are just as lovable!

If you haven’t read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, I highly recommend. It’s a children’s book so it’s a fast read but his writing is beautiful. Since you like the Night Circus, Laini Taylor books, and Benjamin Alire Saenz books, I think you’ll love this one, too.

i honestly think you would love the lunar chronicles. it's similar to six of crows in the sense that there's a group of misfits and their frindship is everything!!! six of crows is my fav book series and the lunar chronicals is a close second :) if you're intimidated by the scifi aspect, don't be. it's more of a fantasy which is set in the future
