    FURTHER DISCLAIMER:
    TEX TALKS BATTLETECH is a fan-based parody/attempt at education for a setting that deserves much love. Battletech, Mechwarrior, and all other material are owned by CGL, Topps, Tornante, PGI, their various subsidiaries and a million shareholders (though not harmony gold, fuck those guys). No challenge to their ownership status is being made or intended by the creation of this work. Battletech is owned by the company, but the fanbase is what keeps it alive. Let us hope they forgive us for what fun we have.
    Tex Talks Battletech is a semi-serious take on Battletech, its setting, lore, and history in an attempt to bring people into one of the greatest franchises ever envisioned and should not in any way represent the official stance of any corporation, conglomerate, megacorp, holding company, or cartel which currently owns the franchise. Tex Talks Battletech is in no way affiliated with the official work of CGL, TOPPS, Tornante, PGI or their work and it would be best said that they are largely unaware of what we do and in no way acknowledge or encourage our projects.
    TL;DR: this is the opinion of one guy who loves a setting, and is dead-set on bringing it to everyone who cares to hear about it.

Like in the game universe where motherfuckers are willing to risk entire lances for LosTech caches, I always kind of felt like it was a huge oversight that nobody was really trying to hijack your giant ship made entirely out of LosTech. Comstar/WoB should have had a special shipping deal. You want to travel to system_B. You pay a fee to Comstar or WoB (Protectorate), they send a HPG message to System_B, which then crunches Pirate Point coordinates (or even has constant updates). System_B sends back some pirate point coordinates along with the time frames they are good for. So instead of spending ~10 days transiting from the jump point ~10 AU out from the star, you are ~1 AU from the planet and spend ~2 days transiting.
      Imagine the trade potential of such a grid. No more waiting ~20 days for stuff to arrive, you can now get it within a week

    I like the joke, it is hilarious and plausible, but how the game handles it is equally plausible too so it works IMO.
    Sure it is Star League Era, but it is civilian in nature (designed for expeditionary work) with no KF Drive and no weapons of its own. It is a flying office building with two drop ship docking collars. Even then, that isn't really an advantage when it takes two Jump ship collars.
    Overall I could see Comstar keeping an eye on them, but not directly intervening. I don't think they would risk revealing they have a navy in 3025 for a civilian drop ship with limited military potential.

    I mean this is a option.
    However what if it serves the interests of Comstar to "let" some previously broken dropship, like the Argo, be found and used in a far away localized conflict?
    It could be possible that the Arano Restoration serves Comstar in some way. That allowing a Merc company working for Lady Arano to use the ship could be a way of effecting the outcome of the war without even having to supply weapons in any trackable channel.
    That after the Restoration is complete, Comstar could then schedule the Argo to have a "unforseen critical drive malfunction" and thus take it off the board once again now that the Argo is not needed.
    I'm just throwing ideas out here, I don't know much about Battletech lore. I just think there is more alternatives to the "Argo problem" for Comstar than just black ops seizure and or it's immediate destruction.
    Sometimes it could be useful for a organization like Comstar to let a new player appear on the field to mess with the established interests of a part of the inner sphere or periphery.

    • @kereminde
      @kereminde 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      They don't need to solve the "Argo Problem" until it's a problem which threatens anything ComStar actually wants to happen. Like if the crew were to, oh... interfere in the Fourth Succession War more than just in the 'Aurigan Reach'. The ship is not armed, and most of the tech is impressive but without the knowledge to create more it's not a game changer.
      Now, if that weird hard drive of extra data wasn't completely unusable, there'd be a reason to take the whole ship out in a terrible misjump accident.

    • @lordhefman
      @lordhefman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Yang to Bridge, we have a boarding party trying to come through the repair bays. Don't worry, I'm in the Grasshopper you got on that last mission and I have them pinned down with all the small lasers you had me install for your crazy "jump and punch" build. Dekker is in the Hunchback, but the only gun that's working is the AC20. He wants to "open the docking collar" and let in a little sunshine.

    ComGuards only started becoming viable in 3039. Before that Comstar only used mercs as enforcers and the ComGuards were just glorified mall cops guarding their HPG stations. I mean, as late as 3029 they were just punching bags for everyone from pirates to NAIS cadets. Focht was the one who built them up into the Clan-beating force of 3050. Also, Comstar wasn't able to reactivate the WarShips until after the Helm Memory Core was retrieved. They had WarShips in storage and had repaired most of them, but the knowledge of how to operate them was lost after the partial disbandment of the Guards following the assassination of Hollings York. Helm allowed them to reactivate the WarShips starting from 3040 under the final expansion initiated under the command of Anastasius Focht.

    The only reason this didn't happen is because House Arano is actually a ComStar front. There are several telltale signs.
    First, ComStar doesn't just show up and take all their lostech.
    Second, how else could a periphery state controlling a moderate number of systems pop up out of nowhere, with no previous historical references, and everyone just pretends like it was always there and accepts it without comment?
    Third, Kamea SOMEHOW keeps sending public addresses to all the people under her uncle's rule.
    Last, Kamea - COM-ay-uh. They're not even trying to hide it.

    • @sharlin648
      @sharlin648 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They had one, they did have the Blakes Sword which was formerly the Zughoffer Weir, which was the Wolverine Flagship. How they found it is unknown but apparently they found her in 3061 or beforehand in a heavily damaged state.

    • @basicfailure101
      @basicfailure101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sharlin648 Answering you seriously (though this was a joke, admittedly);
      The game takes place decades before op. revival so there's no real way for CS to have gotten ahold of one. Add to this that CS never operated any Mckennas - though as you said WoB did find one much later - as well as any Wolverine ship more than likely not having a full clan refit since they were annihilated only a few years after op. klondike.

    • @sharlin648
      @sharlin648 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aye :) But ComStar/Word did have a McKenna, its more a case of when they found her. The ships the former Wolverines flagship, so we can assume its something to do with the Minnesota Tribe. Its more a case of when ComStar found the ship, and when they made her operational. According to fluff a badly damaged McKenna was repaired at Titan in 3061, so that would be the Blake's Sword, but ComStar could have been sitting on her for decades :) Either way I think Tex used the ship because this version of its in colour and 3D and its just an awesome take on the McKenna :)

    • @basicfailure101
      @basicfailure101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CS =/= WoB, at least post-schism. The canon source that mentions Blake's sword includes a note by the then CS precentor-ROM about not knowing where the vessel came from - so either Fochtstar was randomly lying about their warship fleet long after such things would be relevant, or they didn't find it. Regarding the whole Minnesota tribe 'the blood' thing, up to you whether you take it as fact, it's even written in the book that features it that it may or may not be the insane ramblings of someone addicted to deception.
