  • Holgate is the southernmost town on Long Beach Island, NJ that provides some incredible beaches and includes a native bird sanctuary. The area has been hit hard with recent storms and is slowly rebuilding its delicate buffer from the ocean. This is a very cool place to visit!

    Was there only once. On a 75 degree weekday in October, walked to the end, stayed 3 hours. Saw 1 other person the whole time. My thoughts were, I have one of the nicest places on earth all to myself. Nice footage. I can't wait to go there again.

    Just want you to know that your videos are first rate. Once the internet and our hobby get word of your channel I believe your channel will take off. Keep up the good work.

      Thanks a lot for the comments and the support. I enjoy this hobby a lot and want to share it with as many people as I can. I feel like quads are getting a bad rap in the press and I'm hoping we can all turn that around by posting clips of the beauty these amazing machines can provide. Thanks for subbing me and stay tuned, I have a bunch more content posting this weekend.

      Thanks for checking out the clip. I used to live near this island and the devastation from the last few storms was incredible. It's good to know that they're working hard to preserve it. I appreciate you stopping by.

      Thanks for stopping by. I was blown away with the specialized equipment they use for beach restoration. It was also odd to see the dozers running through the water pushing the sand.

    My parents kept a boat at Gore's Marina on Osborne Ave. in Holgate in the '70's. Is the Sea Spray Motel still there at Osborne and the Boulevard?

      I believe it is. The last time we visited LBI 3 years ago, we drove to the end of the island and I think we passed it. In fact, we used to stay there in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

    I love the area. Many of my own flights are coastal. I noticed you keep the camera at a pretty steep angle down. Is this an artistic choice or are the props/guards getting in the way? I'm stuck in a position where I really want to use prop guards but find they ruin the shot unless I'm basically hovering in place or adjust the camera angle down.

      Thanks for watching and I hope you sub the channel. I really enjoy the downward shot, especially over water. You never know what you'll see hovering just below the surface and it conveys a real sense of flying. I normally only have trouble with the props in heavy wind and find it less with the Phantom 4 because the motors are mounted slightly higher. I appreciate the comments and will be posting more flights very soon so stay tuned.

      Roland, thanks for watching and LBI is one of my favorite places to fly. I grew up on the bay in Manahawkin and get down there as much as I can to fly. You're going to love flying the P4, its an amazing quad and flys like a dream. Be sure to sub the channel so you don't miss any updates. Rick

    Very nice video ! Curious as to the title of the first piece of music and where I could find it?

    • @Dronevalley

      Thanks, its called "Life of a Dreamer" and I use a service called AudioBlocks for most of my clips. They are a website that offers a collection of royalty-free music for a yearly fee.

    Nice video. the early part looked a bit grainy on the water what platform were you videoing from and what resolution?

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed that as well. The challenge was that it was a very overcast day and the filter I used in Premiere to lighten it up introduced some artifacts that were amplified when I uploaded it to TH-cam. I was flying the Phantom 4 and recorded it in 4K so I could crop as needed.

      I really enjoyed this one. You can't tell from the clip but the wind was exceptionally strong that day and the P4 was rock-solid. I was actually a little worried about putting it up but was glad I did. Thanks for checking it out!

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I'm always critical on technology but the P4 is an amazing drone and the best I've flown to date. The upside is its stability in rough conditions, crash avoidance and other auto-pilot features. It's downside is it's price, noisier props and new accessories (that are different from the P3). Overall it's an incredible machine.

    Holgate is gorgeous and definitely worth the trip. However, please remember not to fly drones in the Wildlife Reuge in nesting season. Most human activity in the refuge is prohibited in the nesting season. Not sure if drone activity is specifically prohibited, but as we saw with the elegant tern incident, a simple accident at the wrong time can have a catastrophic effect on species.

      JR, thanks for the post and I agree with you about the beauty of Holgate. I have lived on the bay in Manahawkin all of my life and spent a few decades on LBI Beaches. I have a great respect for the wildlife there and am always very cautious about flying anywhere I might have an impact. I often fly with the Mavic 2 Zoom for exactly that reason, since it allows me to stay well over 200' up and still capture some amazing footage by using the optical zoom. I'm glad you enjoyed the clip and appreciate your comments! Rick
