  • This time I am doing a rare refurbishment of ancient Chinese bronze mirrors. The bronze mirror came from a flea market, I can't confirm for sure, but it appears to date back to the Tang Dynasty. The bronze mirror is rough in shape and heavily rusted。

What incredible work!! Very asmr. The end result was beautiful. So turns out that the mirrors back in ancient China were very clear!

Интересно как быстро вы сделали выводы. Это забавно.

One of the main benefits of bronze, and why it was favored by many ancient civilizations, was the fact it didn't corrode easily and that when it oxidized the green patina that formed would protect the bronze from the elements. Whereas iron and steel will disintegrate if left exposed to the elements for long enough. Which is why artifacts from the Bronze age tend to be in much better shape than iron artifacts despite the former being much much older than the latter.

Very impressive, it would very very interesting to see the difference in clarity side by side between each level of polish.

고생했네, 과거에 거울을 만들었을 때도 지금 것만 못했을 거야 ㅋ 만족스러운 결과물 👍

Cool, but what could be the limits of ancient polishing? Could you really see your face clearly enough with old methods?

What a tragedy, an ancient artifact ruined by an over zealous idiot.

I can't agree with this. It's terribly unfortunate you refurbished this possibly ancient bronze mirror. You wipe away valuable archaeological evidence that could be used in dating when it was made, and possibly some subtle clues about what it meant to ancient people at the same time. If it's from the Tang Dynasty, that would make it a significant archaeological find.
The responsible thing to do would have been to bring it to a museum and request a dating on it, and possibly hand it over. There is a very good reason why ancient artifacts aren't "refurbished", even when going on display, and that's because they must be kept in the condition they were found to preserve as much evidence as possible, not make them 'look' how they would have. For that - they make replicas, not the real deal!

Dude, it’s already been dated and it’s still over 1000 years old. It’s cool sometimes when an object from history is returned to its former glory.
